Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

First, RIT hasn't had streaky goalies, instead they've had missing ones. Its not easy winning games with your 5'7" club goalie is the guy starting four games.
Second, what Wilson has done here since he's been here is certainly not "peanuts" to Pecknold. Just 11 seasons ago this team was a division 3 team. Since then, RIT has won 4 regular season conference titles, 3 AHA tournament titles, 3(or more?) NCAA tournament games, was the first ever #16 to knock off a #1, and reached the Frozen Four once. How can you explain this success? Is it the competition we play against in conference? Of course not. Do we get good players because of our home crowds? Maybe, but the road crowds kind of cancel that out. Do players come here for the facilities? Maybe now, but before last season, we had a very tiny, outdated rink, so that's not it. Scholarships? Since we are only D-1 in ice hockey, we're not allowed to offer them, so that's not it. So how does a team in the worst conference, without scholarships continue to have this type of success? Simple. Wayne Wilson. He finds the perfect players for his system year in and year out. All these guys that you scholarship folks forgot about, because of size, speed, or whatever, and they come to us. Then, Wilson puts it all together, and bam. In just 10 seasons, he will be at worst 3-3 in the NCAA tournament, with a frozen four, and plenty of league titles to go with it. To call what coach Wilson has done "peanuts" is an absurdity. The way he and his staff put together their team every year and get them to compete with the best in the country every year is nothing short of remarkable.

Now I don't want to take away anything Pecknold has done, but to Wilson has done just "very well", and is "peanuts" to Peck, well, that's just downright disrespectful.

I will take that all day.

But I don't understand why one guy came in here running their mouth and when someone comes back at them, they get all hurt feelings. I was being reasonable and just talking right back!

There's a lot of teams that would be better for having Coach Wilson. He gets a lot out of the talent that he can get. His NCAA tournament record and Penrose speak to that. Not to knock Pecknold, who has done well for himself.

Bottom line is that it's single elimination. No way Middle Tennessee State should have beat Michigan State in basketball, right? Michigan State spent some time as the #1. That game wrecked a lot of brackets. You have to play the games. An off night by a goalie for instance, and your season is done.

Taking anyone lightly in this tournament is not a good idea. Coach Pecknold knows this from his interview during the selection show. He knows what RIT has done and what they are capable of. It's his job to make sure that the team knows they have to take RIT seriously before it's too late.

And looking at the brackets as a whole, nobody has an easy path to the championship - it's going to be a great playoffs.

I agree 100% but its just ball busting. We are fans right? We don't have to think about game plans.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

For the Q fans I have one word... Canisius. No one can ever be taken lightly in a one-and-done tourney. Come ready to play or it will be a long night and an even longer ride home.

A little back-and-forth is always entertaining so hopefully we can continue the banter all week.

Agree on that with one counter point. That Quinnipiac team has zero NCAA experience going into that game. This is a totally different #1 seed than that one. To me this team is deeper on both offense and defense. This is a team that is giving healthy scratches to players like Thomas Aldworth and Luke Shiplo guys who would start on any team in RIT's conference yet they can at times barely crack the Quinnipiac. This team is on its 4th consecutive NCAA appearance. They know what it takes to win at this time of year. Also they are coming off a regular season and tournament championship. We also have the knack for making large comebacks if need be. This team will be ready to play on Saturday. I would be shocked if they didn't show up.

That was my point... be ready to play of suffer the consequences.

This team is vastly different from 2013, and the seniors were there. They know what it takes and we know Rand will have them ready.

Q Fans - Welcome to Albany. Hoping that there will be some extra t-shirts brought by you for distribution to ECAC fans in your first game for support.

Just a note - Aldworth is injured. Mentioned by Riga on the radio postgame after Dartmouth. Otherwise, I fully agree. Very deep talented team.

They have had trouble with teams ranked below them at times this season but at this time of the year, there are no tomorrows. I expect them to play very well.

Two points. Aldworth has been a healthy scratch at times this year and I'm not shocked that teams ranked lower than them have given them trouble since there has been no one ahead of them for pretty much the whole year. They have gotten everyones best shot every night and come through except for 3 times this year.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Good luck this weekend Bobcats ... the last ECAC team to win the ECAC league and ECAC tournament in the same year, also won the national championship. Don't look past RIT as Minnesota did last year. Here is hoping that with both ECAC Connecticut teams in Albany, the ECAC should emerge with a F4 representative. The reason you are #1 in the country is that you are the best team in the country. Show the rest of the country what we already know. ;)

Agreed. Having seen most of the best play this year, I believe Q is the best team in the country. Go forth and conquer.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

RIT deserves our teams respect and our fans respect. To win a conference tournament, no matter the league, shows a level of danger to an opposing team. Add that to the fact these guys have knocked off a one seed as recently as 365 days ago, and you have my cautious optimism in Q.

Every school has a story of how they have gotten to this point. Some were handed it (MINN, ND, etc), others have drudged through low level hockey and next to nothing budgets (RIT, QU) to get here. All the stats and advanced stats point to one thing, but theres a reason why they allow 16 teams in rather than pairing the top 2 in a national championship. I like our draw, but that doesn't mean we walk to Tampa or even Sunday. Mark brings up a good point in Canisius and QUALUM brings up another good point in experience.

Mike Tyson said it best, "Everyone has a game plan, until you get punched in the face." I like how this team responds to getting punched in the face. Excited for this weekend and thankful to be in another NCAA tournament, even though we expect it every year.

The talk right now is about Notre Dame leaving the Hockey East for B1G. What do you guys think about Q jumping over into Hockey East to fill that spot?

No thanks. I like our standing in the ECAC and the rebirth the conference has had with teams like us, Yale, Union, Harvard, Cornell and the rest of the depth in the league. I bet we are the target though.

Hopefully not. We're in a really good place right now. I don't think we could jump to HE and have the same kind of luck we've had in the ECAC.
