Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

How much did QU pay for that infomercial that was broadcast on SNY last night? Maybe an interview with the other teams coaches or players? Or how about a replay of the possibly season ending hit on Oksanen? A serious question, did Quinnipiac University pay for the broadcast? If not, it was the worst case of a one sided broadcast that I have ever seen.

Quinnipiac paid for that broadcast. That was their own production. They have been doing this for a few years now.

Well, I guess you get what you pay for, a little objectivity would have been nice. The announcers did give BU some props but the producer and director need to work on what should be the accepted standard of a hockey broadcast. It would be a shame if the A/D was a part of the censorship.

Go. Back. To. The. Yale. Thread. Troll.

Not. Trolling. Constructive. Criticism. #thinskin

Not constructive at all unless anyone on here has a say in production value. You came on here not to talk about the game but to talk about a telecast that Quinnipiac paid for. You clearly had a bias in your statements, that to the tune of "how dare a Quinnipiac broadcast interview only Quinnipiac players." AND "They didn't show a highlight of a hit that I want to say was dirty, so because I don't have my highlight, I can't make that claim." I'm sure it was one-sided. I haven't watched. Generally, you're never going to get a quality college hockey telecast. Even the NCAA tournament broadcast are laughable when it comes to knowledge of the schools, the players and just about anything. But my point is, you came on here in a very catty way complaining about a telecast that didn't make you happy. It helps no one and is constructive in no way.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

Or how about a replay of the possibly season ending hit on Oksanen? .

And to even call it a "hit" is questionable at best. It was awkward, it was fast but most of the major impact was Oksanen being out of control. Very little contact was made. But I was there. I didn't need a replay.

It's not a perfect broadcast, I think any Quinnipiac fan will admit that. But it's better than the alternative, which is no games on TV. I would have liked to see a replay of the injury, that was probably a producer's call that he didn't want to show an injury. Understandable, but definitely frustrating. I highly doubt the AD was in the truck telling them to skip the injury. That would seem, to me, unlikely.

Quinnipiac has been paying for TV broadcasts of basketball and hockey on SNY and NESN for at least ten years. This is something they do consistently. Also, there's no lying to the audience. The graphics don't say "College Hockey," they say, "Quinnipiac University Hockey." There are a number of places where they make it clear this is a Quinnipiac University production.

The play-by-play guy, Bill Schweizer, is a QU professor. The sideline reporter, Billy Mecca, is an associate AD for the University and their basketball analyst. The color commentator, Rich Coppola, is a sports anchor for one of the local TV stations.

Watch out bud QU fans have the thinnest skin. Not worth it!

Here we go with the "Come to North Dakota, we will beat you" talk. Yeah bud lets talk "aboot" it. Honestly the sad thing is, is that you are the super derpy fan that goes to all the hockey games alone and cheer alone and leave alone. But when someone asks you aboot it, you say, "no I like going alone I really get to pay attention to the game." Bud go suck on your dads mediocre sized d-i-c-k just like UNDs success over the past 10 years.

Please don't call me Bud, I actually like these guys. Wong, THAT ^ is an example of a troll. FYI, the reason that I wanted to see the replay of the Oksanen incident was that it happened so fast that you could not tell what actually happened. Most college hockey observers watching a game on tv would probably prefer a chance to see the incident again. To assume that I was just waiting to call the play dirty is just that, an assumption on your part, and not warranted. I am also not going to call the Athletic Department and ask these questions, to whit, the question about who paid for the production. So I asked them here. In the future, you should refrain from using quotation marks for words you think a person might be thinking.

As a BU fan who watched most of today's reply on SNY, I didn't think the broadcast was terribly one-sided. It was far more professional than the BU-Yale Webcast on Friday. Clearly there was more familiarity with the QU players, but Coppola did his homework on BU and continually referenced how BU's forecheck bottled up the Bobcats. And there was an interview with BU's Matt Lane during the second intermission. Professor Schweizer did manage to say annoyingly "BC" instead of "BU" a few times. Considering how many key plays were shown on replay, the Oksanen injury also should have been shown again.

What was quite one-sided, however, was the officiating, specifically non-call against the home team. Forsbacka Karlsson was cross-checked to the ice right in front of an official, and that was just one of several. It's become a pattern with ECAC refs in non-conference games. One amusing thing the cameras caught: Quinn checking his game sheet for the ref's name so he could berate him.

And what was with all the Quinnipiac fans leaving with four minutes left to go?

Ask and ye shall receive. https://youtu.be/9xkC9ARQDtA?t=2h19m55s

You'll notice the QU defender come up from behind and make contact with Oksanen's back while his stick is fully around him. Should've been a minor for tripping or hitting from behind, not a major penalty at all as Ahti's momentum brought him into the boards. But to say that it was "questionable" that it was a hit is absurd, and the comment Wong made in the other thread that it was "incidental" is even more ridiculous.

Thanks for the video. Just for the unaware, the announcers you hear in that video are the QU radio announcers, not the announcers from the television broadcast. I don't think Clifton was trying to take him out, just trying to tie him up to prevent a goal. Two would have been warranted IMO as well.

You're right, he wasn't trying to take him out or throw him into the boards, but he did clearly trip him and hit him from behind.

Watching the first few minutes of the third there, these announcers are living in another world. Accused JFK of hooking a guy when his stick was clearly behind the guy's back, ignored the blatant QU high stick on Oksanen, and at another point called us Boston College. This not accounting for the commentary on the Oksanen injury play that you "just can't call a penalty. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
