Quinnipiac Bobcats 2011 Offseason

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2011 Offseason

How about Renfrew coach a game at Quinnipiac before we anoint him coach-in-waiting?

I agree Yanks. You keep pigeonholing everything I'm saying. I was upset with the loss of Syer and I am excitedly looking forward to what Renfrew can bring. I'm not anointing anyone today but as a fan who hasn't missed a game in going on 8 years I am getting a little perturbed at the lack of elevation in the team's success. As I'm sure you are. It's Rand's team and it will be for the foreseeable future...I'm just happy we went out and brought in a quality assistant. End of discussion.

On another note...here is a video posted on PensTV as well as the ECAC site of Zurvy discussing his time at the developmental camp as well as his style of play and his time at the Q.

I agree. I think it's high time this team gets to the point when they're battling for a first round bye every year, and are consistently in the hunt for the NCAA Tournament. But, just to play devil's advocate, they were an OT goal away from getting to AC last season. Getting to the league final 4 is a pretty logical goal at this stage for this club, I'd think.

An assertion has been made on the Northeastern thread that NU is pursuing your top recruit for 2012 - Josh Manson. Have you folks heard anything from the Quinnipiac end?

Haven't heard anything about that. As far as we know he's headed to the Q next year. He's a big body and will be hitting the Q at the right time as we're going to be losing a bunch a defensemen over the course of the next two years. He'd be coming in to a top four defensive position. Can't say that that wouldn't be attractive to a recruit. I see him at Quinnipiac in '12.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2011 Offseason

Okay, I've cooled down. Losing Manson to Northeastern will hurt as we will be losing a ton of defense over the next few years. But hopefully a diamond in the rough can be found to fill his spot.

Head over to the blog http://allnightwong.blogspot.com for all things Bobcats hockey. A post on the upcoming schedule will be up soon!

Go Q!

Thanks. I noticed his (Jordan Samuels-Thomas) transfer yesterday. Winnipeg Jets draft choice that was a pretty good offensive player at Bowling Green. Nice to have someone who is from Connecticut play for Quinnipiac.

Luke (Allnightwong) – your blog is great.

Very good pick up. let BG both years in scoring in a tough league. Will light up ECAC

Congratulations. Samuels-Thomas will be a valuable addition for the Bobcats. He played very well in the RPI tournament last year - making the all-tournament team and coming very close to leading his team to the championship. He's got good size and uses it well while also having good skills with the puck. He'll fit in well.

Incredibly sad news from the New Haven Register -- Dave Solomon passed away in a one-car accident this evening. Longtime columnist, covered Quinnipiac basketball more than Quinnipiac hockey, but he was a darn good journalist. RIP, Dave, Condolences to his family, friends, and to his colleagues at the Register.

Solomon's passing is awful. Sunday mornings and page2 will never be the same. He was an equal opportunity sports writer and would frequently mention Yale and QU hockey in his articles. He will be missed. My condolences.

As for Samuels-Thomas, I was in the middle of writing a piece on him in my QU blog when I received an email about Renfrew backing out of the job and possibly Cashman taking the helm as the assistant coach. Check it out when you get a chance. http://allnightwong.blogspot.com as well as the piece on JST.

I'm on the side of the argument that Samuels-Thomas could turn out to be excellent in the ECAC. Playing for a team like BG in a tough conference teams with NHL caliber defensemen could easily isolate him and cancel him out yet he still played at a high level. The ECAC doesn't ahave defensemen of this caliber and we could be in store for some exciting play out of him. Nice pick up.
