Quinnipiac Bobcats 2011 Offseason

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2011 Offseason

For anyone interested, the hockey banquet will be held Saturday April 16, 2011 starting at 5:00 pm in the University Club at the TD Bank Sports Center. If you'd like to attend, send me an email through my profile and I can give you all the details. It's really a great evening and a chance to see the team in a totally different setting than we're used to. Not to mention the food isn't that bad either. ;)

If we can get 8-10 people we can have our own QU USCHO table!
Bump. Anyone interested?

With the banquet coming up it's time to think about the team awards and who will wear the C's and A's next season. Here's my picks:

MVP - As far as I'm concerned we have co-MVP's. Eric Hartzell who had an exceptional season and kept us in many games, and Jeremy Langlois who caught fire in the second half and put up some incredible numbers.

Rookie of the Year - The Jones' boys share this one. Both were right near the top in team scoring.

7th Man - Scott Zurevinski. While he wasn't the headline player we had hoped for he did end up leading the team in scoring.

Coaches Award - Yuri Bouharevich. He was consistent throughout most of the season as a roll player.

Captain '11-'12 - If he stays for his senior seaon, I think the "C" goes to Zurvy again. If he leaves I think we'll see Mike Glaicar wearing the "C".

Assistant(s) '11-'12 - Glaicar (if Zurvy stays) and Yuri would be my picks. If Glaic's get's the "C" I could see Dahlhuisen or Davies getting an "A".

MVP: Hartzell. Kept us in it all season with a very lackluster offense. We would never have been able to gain home ice without his stalwart play.

ROY: Jones' as well. Just like I can't tell them apart off the ice, I can't tell them apart on the ice. Both solid players and filled the voids left by Atkinson and Holt's departures. You have to think there is more there than we saw this year however.

7th Man: I'm going to go Heichman. He seemed to fall off last year after a strong Freshman campaign and really came back strong this year. Though his numbers will never be staggering, if all of our guys played like this kid, we'd win every game.

Coaches: Let's go Clarke. He was benched for the large part of the season and was able to show some serious heart, grit and leadership by coming back and earning a tie in a tough Capital District trip late in the year securing home ice. It could not be easy to do and I commend him for that.

Captain: Obviously Zurvy's if he's back, but Glaics really fits that captain mold better. It's his if Zurvy leaves.

Asst. Capts: Glaics and Dalsy if Zurvy stays. Dalsy and Davies (smart freakin kid) if Zurvy leaves.

Very similar to yours Mark, but we tend to wear off on each other after a year of rubbing elbows.

Go Q!

Great minds think alike. I can't argue with your selections. Honestly, I never thought about Clarke but what you point out is extremely valid.

Sorry I'm late to this party but I had to roll my eyes at the new name of the Bank.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2011 Offseason

The 2010-11 season officially came to an end tonight with the Awards Banquet held in the University Club at the TD Bank Sports Center. As usual it was yet another stellar event.

We heard from President Lahey and Jack McDonald, both lavishing praise on the program for its contributions to the university both on and off the ice.

Captain Scott Zurevinski took the podium and thanked a long and deserving list of people who make the program what it is.

Coach Rand Pecknold then began with the award presentations. Recipients for the '10-'11 season are:

Most Valuable Player: Jeremy Langlois

Rookie of the Year: Connor Jones

7th Player Award: Eric Hartzell

Coaches Award: Pat McGann and Sean Coughlin

Academic Award: Yuri Bouharevich (3.88 GPA)

As a whole, the team enjoyed a 3.2 GPA average with 23 players above 3.0, good enough for 2nd academically in the ECAC. Not too shabby when you consider the schools in our league.

Next year the team will once again be captained by Scott Zurevinski (yes, he is returning for his senior year) with Mike Glaicar as one of the assistants. Rand said he'll let the team vote for the second "A" in the fall after the freshmen get on board.

Rand also gave thanks to all the seniors: Zach Hansen, Pat McGann, Sean Coughlin, Jake Bauer and Sami Liimatainen.

As for next year's schedule, we open October 2nd with an exhibition against Acadia University and then on the road for 2 at Ohio State on the 7th and 8th. We'll be in Nebraska for a pair at New Years (12/30-31). Other OoC games include a pair with Canisius, at Bentley, at Holy Cross, Sacred Heart (at Bridgeport) and UMass, as well as another exhibition against the USNDT.

Both Zurvy and Rand spoke about how the team really matured towards the end of the season. Both talked specifically about the Cornell playoff series where they said nobody panicked or worried. In fact, Zurvy said that the mood in the locker room during the 2nd intermission of game 3 (down 2-0 at Lynah) was surprisingly upbeat and everyone felt confident they could come back. As you know, they managed to score twice in the 3rd to tie only to lose in OT. Rand said that series really showed the maturity of the team and that it bodes well for next season.

Again, it was another great banquet thanks to Al Carbone, Lori Onofrio and Pat Hayes. This was my 4th and they just keep getting better every year.

Congratulations to the seniors. Thank you for 4 years of dedication to the program and best of luck in your future endeavours.

Congratulations to the team for another successful season. As Rand mentioned, only New Hampshire, Michigan and Quinnipiac can lay claim to winning seasons over the last 15 years. Pretty impressive if you ask me!

It's only 169 days until we see the team on the ice again! I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer. See y'all at the Bank in the fall! ;)

You steal that number from us? :D

Best of luck to all your seniors. I know I enjoyed watching Lampe out here (he plays for the Crunch).

Man, am I behind. New arena name? Lame title but we'd be stupid not to take that kind of money.

Can the newly minted High Point start playing Dylan's Mighty Quinn more frequently? The singable chorus could be fun for chants.

Ohio State opener?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2011 Offseason

Congratulations to all the seniors, on and off the ice, that will be walking across the podium today!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2011 Offseason

Given the maturity issue with some college players that come directly out of high school, this actually isn't too bad of an idea. I'm not saying that Mr. Anas is specifically this case, but I definitely believe, especially if you are getting a lot of good recruits, hedging your bets is a strong idea.

With our staff's track record of developing talent, I'm a little wary but this is probably the right call. Kid looks tiny. Some strength, experienced from better competition will help.
