Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

I don't think there will be a ton of people at the Bank tonight, especially students.
Well, we'll be there and that's all that really matters, right? ;)

I will be posting a preview on the blog within the hour about tonight's game.
Thanks for reminding me about that painful trip to Worcester a couple of years ago. I don't think we spoke to each other on that ride home. :(

A nice home opener win. While it wasn't pretty and Holy Cross tried their best to make it interesting, the boys gutted it out and got the job done. Currie and Barron had 2 of the sweetest goals I've seen in a while, both of them blasts from the point. Arnt had one of the ugliest goals you'll ever see but did exactly what he was supposed to do by following the shot and going to the net. Hibbeler and Connor Jones rounded out the scoring with a couple of nice goals. Clarke was a little off in net but in his defense the D left him out to dry on 2 of HC's goals. After sleeping through most of the 2nd and into the 3rd, they played some really inspired hockey over the last 5 minutes after Rand used his timeout. In the end it was a win and that's all that matters. On to Saturday when Canisius comes to town for what I heard was a homecoming sellout.

The box score at least made it sound like last nights game was exciting. Really 1500 people there? NIP woulda been ricking with that large a crowd. ;)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Game day at the Bank! Canisius is one of those teams that scares me: an inferior opponent on paper yet we seem to find ways to play down to their level. As long as we show up and play our game we'll be fine. The crowd should also be a factor today as I've heard it's close to a sellout. A packed Bank is a great place to see a game and the team generally responds to the atmosphere. Let's hope so. See y'all this afternoon.

Sweet Caroline! A very nice offensive display this afternoon at the Bank! Better yet was the fact that they never quit... didn't see the usual let down in the 2nd. Congrats to Jeremy Langlois on the first hat trick of the season! Lot's of Bobcats on the score sheet today and a nice 4 for 8 on the PP. Hartzell was never really tested (the goal he gave up looked like it was tipped in by a D-man) and Jake Whiting got some time in net for the last few minutes.

Of course, we were by far the superior team but I expect Canisius to make some adjustments and come out with a different look (and attitude) tomorrow. It will be intersesting to see how we react to that.

Forgot to note what a great crowd (3327) at the High Point Solutions Arena last night for the Bobcats and Griffs.

Turnout was great yesterday, but too quiet for me. With that many people in the building the Bank ought to rock! I know, all the students were being nice trying to make a good impression for their parents.

I don't expect we'll see half that many today. These Sunday afternoon games just don't draw well. Most importantly, though, is that the team shows up. I'd like to see a continuation of yesterday's game with no letdown by the Bobcats. Sure, the Griffins will have made adjustments but I think we just have too many weapons to use against them. If we show up and play our game, we sweep the weekend!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

And sweep they did...

Canisius came out a different team today but were still outmatched by the Bobcats, who didn't look to be totally on their game. Needless to say, we took it to them and came out with another win. If not for some great saves by their goalie, the score likely would have been higher than yesterday. He definitely did his part to help his team.

While I'm not a big fan of these types of games, you have to play what's on the schedule and do your best. Overall on the weekend I think the boys did just that. Yesterday they were stellar; today they did what they needed to win. In the end I guess it all evens out but they'll need a better effort once league play starts.

Is it Tuesday yet?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

A very strong weekend sweep. It was never in doubt and the boys skating hard. This team is very exciting to watch and I can't wait to see how it translates to league play. After five games I stand by my prediction that this is the year we get a first round bye! See you all on Tuesday against Bentley!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Nice weekend for Quinnipiac with some pretty promising play. I understand that Canisius might not be a "national powerhouse," but the team still looked real good out there, skating very well. The saturday game might have been the least exciting 7 goal performance I have seen in a while, but that was probably just due to the apathetic parents weekend crowd.

Really liking the look of the Zurvy, Langois, Peca line. Langer has been a monster so far, showing off some of that great scoring potential he has. I know its early, but still pretty cool seeing him lead the nation in goals and powerplay goals, along with being tied on top for points.

Im with Wonger, I dont want to get too far ahead of myself, but I honestly think that a bye could definitely be within reach. Needless to say, I am very excited to see this season run its course.

Let's wait until league play and then February before that discussion. Was it 2 years ago (or 3 years now) that QU rose all the way to 4th in the nation in the fall only to fall off the face of the earth.

I agree it's way too early but I do feel this is a better team all around. If they continue to gel and not get bit by any major injuries there's no reason not to feel good about our chances.

They are by far a deeper, more in sync team this year. I am not calling for a national title or even a league title, but this team is primed to make some serious waves in the league this year!

The blog's top 20 rankings now posted. No, the Bobcats didn't crack it yet. If they can take care of business the next three games and start 7-1, then I think their chances go up ;).

It was two years ago. Dont worry, I remember that season quite vividly, as it was my freshman year at QU. Got a quick dose of reality after the euphoria of being #4 in the nation a couple months into my first semester in college.

I agree, it is way to early, and their success has been against overall sub-par opponents. I'm just saying that it is gonna be an exciting season, and that I have pretty decent expectations for them.

Bobcat Uniform History page
That was interesting. ;)

Game day at the Bank. Bentley comes in on a 3 game skid and we're coming off 2 days rest after scoring 11 goals on the weekend. The boys will need to keep up the intensity and not let the Falcons get any momentum. If they play another solid 60 minutes they'll be fine.

I of course can't argue with you Mark since you and Wong are much more of an expert on all things QU hockey than I am these days.
