Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Opening day for the Bobcats!

Being the optimistic one I'm looking forward to a sweep this weekend. I think we will see many of our offensive weapons against the Buckeyes. Wonger picked us 5-3 in toinight's game and I concur with that.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

I suppose it's time for me to come out of hibernation. I'll make a big effort to get down to Hamden at least once this season. Would be great to see some of you guys.

Hopefully we're not in for another season listing away in the dull-drums (a period I'd say runs from the ECAC Championship game loss in 07 until now since every season has played out more or less in identical fashion with identical results).

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

...don't know how this might affect the "Q" or what the NCAA rules are but John Nauta was released from his tryout w/Reading
I'm guessing that ship has sailed. The NCAA ruled 2 yrs plus 16 games before he could become eligible... why would anyone (player or team) wait that long?

Hey Mark, Right back at ya: good luck to QU this season. As for the Pioneers, count me among the few rather than the many. I want to see what kind of team defense Denver plays and the quality of goaltending it gets with and/or without Sam Brittain this year before I apply any superlatives to my assessment of the team this year. I'll say this much....with a road trip to play single games against BC and BU to start the season the Pioneers will be tested early.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Not at all what I had in mind. They seemed a little tentative in the first but found their skates in the 2nd and 3rd. Unfortunately a couple of ill-timed major penalties (Zervy and Van Brabant) led to OSU scores and their goalie was superb. What I did see was a lot of potential once they gel together a little more. The passing wasn't as crisp as it could be but that will come around I'm sure.

We'll just have to take it to 'em tomorrow night.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Going into tonight's game I am feeling pretty confident about our chances. We outplayed the Bucks for the large part last night and hopefully Heeter won't be as unbeatable as last night tonight. We need more production out of our top lines. The Joneses were playing at a high level all night but let's hope that translates into goals. It'll be interesting to see who Rand decides to scratch after Bouharevich (injury), Bui, Rolheiser, Callahan, Robinson and Federico were the casualties last night. Per travel regs, I'm sure some are still back in Hamden anyways. I think we'll split and some of those 36 shots will go in tonight! Sources are telling me that Hartzell will be in net tonight as well.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

A great start, a mediocre 2nd and an even 3rd with some nail biting for the last couple of minutes but they held on for the split. They looked unstoppable in the first, helped by OSU's parade to the box. The Buckeye's really stepped it up in the 2nd but didn't maintain it for the 3rd. All in all I thought it was a good weekend for us. I'll take the split.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Big win tonight, salvaging the split. Would have loved to take the sweep, but what are you gonna do? Nice job bouncing back tonight after a tough loss on Friday night, now really looking forward to Wednesday!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Can't take any issue with the split. With the upcoming schedule, HC, Canisius(2), Bentley, Robert Morris(2), there is no reason not to expect the Bobcats to take all of those and have a nice little record heading into conference play. The boys outplayed the Buckeyes for both games and could very easily have come away with the sweep. Hartzell seems positioned as the number one but with some lackluster opponents coming up, look for Clarke to see some time. It was good see Matt Peca get on the scoresheet and Danny Federico skate in his first game as a Bobcat. See you all at the Bank on Wednesday night!

Do the fans at OSU know there's a hockey team? Where are the people?

I'm guessing OSU's arena isn't one of the more intimidating ones in college hockey...

Probably had something to do with the OSU-Nebraska football game that was at 8:00 last night. I don't think people at OSU care that there's a hockey team until football season is over.

Watched both games this weekend. The arena was just as empty Friday night as Saturday so I don't think the Saturday football game was the main issue. They just don't have a hockey culture at all at Ohio State. I have a buddy who did his undergrad there and just finished up and said even when they were ranked fairly high three years ago you could hear a cricket in the place.

Wow, that's terrible. Although I guess I'm used to a school where hockey is by far the most popular sport, so it's hard for me to imagine a big school like OSU wouldn't at least have some sort of sizeable following.

Nice interview you posted with my favorite Bobcat.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Skip your late night classes and get to the Bank kids. Holy Cross is in town!

Yikes. Plenty of good seats still available? Mark or Wong, have to let me know which gets more in way of attendance between tonight and Sunday's 1p start that goes against NFL.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

I don't think there will be a ton of people at the Bank tonight, especially students. A mid week game in October never really brings the student fans. The only saving grace might be the fact that the New Haven area may be dieing for hockey after Yale's earlier than expected exit last season and Quinnipiac's expected, not accepted exit last year. This is the area's first chance to see meaningful hockey this season. The usual suspects will be in the building, I'm just hoping some area hockey fans show up tonight for what should be a quality New England hockey matchup. Holy Cross is much improved from the past and many have them picked atop Atlantic Hockey right along side AFA and RIT. I still think we're the superior team, but anything can happen this early.

As for the weekend, I think Saturday will have a real quality turnout. It is alumni weekend so there will be plenty of people in town and normally Q messes up by having a Saturday night game at a time when most are finishing up happy hour and/or heading out to New Haven or a local bar. By having the 4 p.m. start, many people will be willing to come out to the game without having their night ruined.

Sunday will be another story and aside from the locals could be a ghost town.

I will be posting a preview on the blog within the hour about tonight's game. I originally saw us winning big, but upon further review I'll take a 4-2 win for the Q with a big game from Zurvy who's been relatively quiet during the first two games.
