Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

First half of the weekend mission accomplished. Last nights game was... different. Clearly outplayed Brown all night long but couldn't solve DeFilippo until the enxtended 5 on 3 opportunity late in the game.

I was surprised that the game didn't get chippy as in years past. The late season home game with the Bears always seems to bring out the worst in both teams. For the most part last nights play on the ice was not thugged up. Of course, I'm not sure what caused Brown's coach to have a complete meltdown that resulted in him flipping off Chip McDonald and promptly getting tossed from the game. If he was trying to incite or inspire his team, it definitely did not work and, in fact, ended up being the difference in the game.

Tonight's game ought to be a classic. The Whitney War, round 2, takes place at the Bank and both teams have a lot at stake standings wise. For us to secure that coveted bye, we need to win. Even though last night was senior night I think it's tonight's game where our seniors need to step up and take control.

I'm hoping for a packed house and a rowdy atmosphere.

Go Q!

That it was. Excellent student turnout... they were lined 4-wide up at the door at 5:00 waiting to get in. For most of the night they were loud and kept the Bank buzzing. Now all we have to do is figure out how to make that happen at every game!

On the ice it was oh, so close! The 1st round bye was ours for the taking but Harvards win forced us to need a victory to secure it. Unfortunately, the resulting tie wasn't quite enough. Just one goal and one point short...

None of that matters now with the playoffs looming. It's a brand new season and it starts with the Brown Bears visiting the Bank next weekend for a best of 3 series.

Congratulations on another successful regular season! Take it to 'em in the playoffs!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Time to change the thread title ;) Hard fought game for both teams, the goalies were the difference for both teams last night and actually neither deserved to lose. Yales stupid penalties also swung the tide in Q's favor. Good luck, until we meet again!

See you in a couple of weeks.
I'm usually the optimistic one around here but I just can't bring myself to be so bold. While I like our chances against Bruno, I won't start looking ahead to Hamilton until the final buzzer of our 2nd victory this weekend.

You haven't lost a home playoff series since joining the ECAC.

Brown is a very manic depressive team, give them an edge and the confidence takes over and they feed off of it. On the flipside, when things go bad, they go very bad. I think the one thing that Q has going for it is a semi consistent lineup, and a better talent level across the three lines, if you neutralize Farnham, MacLellan and Jacobsen then the Q should be OK. Play D like you did against Yale the other night and you should be fine. Have a great weekend, I wish there was some way to attend both series.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Big game tonight, pumped to be there. I most likely will be in the student section tonight, so I will do my best to try and keep all the Bobcats faithful standing and supportive. I have been going around campus trying to inform everyone about how exciting and eventful the Brown games always are, so hopefully there will be a solid turnout tonight.

With that said, I have a couple of shameless plugs (as always). Us at QBSN have our Brown preview up: http://www.theqbsn.com/2012/03/ecac-quarterfinal-12-brown-vs-5.html as well as a preview for the rest of the first round of the ECAC Championship: http://www.theqbsn.com/2012/03/look-at-first-round-of-ecac-tournament.html. So check them out if you get the chance. See you all at the Bank tonight!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Welcome to a brand new day. We all know anything can happen in the playoffs. While the numbers favor us over Brown it will depend on what those 21 guys on the ice do. I like our chances and would just like to see a solid effort from everyone.

I also hope the student turnout is good tonight. The Bank is a lot more fun when they're in the seats making noise.

Best of luck Bobcats!

Less than 2 hours to get your picks in for round one of the ECAC PICK THE PLAYOFFS

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Wow... I can't believe the season comes down to tonight. I never expected Brown to come in and win game 1 in our barn, let alone outplay us the way they did. Kudos to them for getting it done. Maybe it will inspire us to come out swinging tonight. The seniors know this could be their last game in a QU sweater so they need to step up and lead by example. I'm hoping for a much different outcome tonight.

Hey Mark and Luke
Hard to believe we are all down to our last gasp. I was shocked when I saw your score. We had a total defensive meltdown in the third after being tied 3-3. In our series even though we are home I think you could honestly say it was a pick 'em series as the teams have been very evenly matched. Ironically we have fared better at Thompson than at Appleton and I'm thinking after last nights debacle we could go out in two straight.

Same fate for Clarkson. Only Ylae held serve at home.

Better luck tonight.

Thanks Mike. Sorry to see SLU bow out. We managed to pull one out last night so we get at least one more breath.

A great game by the Bobcats last night. They came out hungry and took control right from the opening faceoff. Brown seemed to be back on their heels most of the night. Hartzell wasn't really tested but came up with key saves at key times. A goal would have put Brown right back in the game through the first 2 periods. In the 3rd, Bruno looked gassed (or they were pressing really hard). When we padded our lead with the 3rd goal we went into prevent mode as was obvious with the lack of any real pressure during the 5-min PP.

Tonight has the makings of being a barn burner. Brown, no doubt, will come out and try to take it to us. We most likely will do the same. With the chippiness in the last few minutes last night, I see tempers being on edge all night tonight. Both teams have their backs against the wall... it ought to be a good one.

Go Q!
