Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

AC for my birthday would be oh so sweet!
Maybe next year. :(

Colgate was the better team tonight and we just couldn't get anything going. It looked at times like we were trying too hard. Whatever... it was still a great season and the future looks really good for the Bobcats.

Congratulations and thank you to all the seniors. It was a quick 4 years but I thoroughly enjoyed watching them all. I wish them all the best in whatever their futures hold.

I still have the banquet to look forward to...

Go Q!

Followed your team this season and watched Sunday night on the Internet feed. I was impressed that your team kept fighting despite bad bounces and hitting posts. The top line is going to be a force the next few years. Number 27 is also impressive for his toughness and grittiness--I am sure opposing teams don't look forward to playing against him I predict a trip to the final 4 next year for Qpac. Good luck.

Scott Zurevinski has reportedly signed a tryout contract with St. John's of the AHL. Full story later on the blog.

And in his first game as a pro...
The Saskatoon native made his presence felt in the second period with a thundering hit and a subsequent fight…

Congrats to Dan Clarke who signed with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers!

I'll never forget his stellar performance in the UConn tourney against Air Force.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Kind of jealous of Union. Up until a few years ago, hadn't they never even won a ECAC playoff series?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Congrats Zack Currie
I'll say I was surprised but not shocked by this announcement. I thought for sure next years C would be on Barrons sweater but I'm sure Currie will make an excellent captain. Congratulations Zack!

They've certainly come a long way in a short time. We are certainly going to have the talent next season so it will come down to the level of heart and determination. We're not that far off from being a true contender in the league.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Enjoy Hamilton Mark! I've been quiet on here, but have been closely following the team.
Ok... I gotta ask. After following this team a few years longer than I have, what was you overall impression of this years effort? Excluding the magical '07 efforts, where would you rate this year?

I'll answer too, since I've been following them since '04.

I feel like there's a sense of "ho-hum" to everything around the program, now. In '04-'05, everyone was excited about the move to ECAC, we were dominating the AHA, it was a great year. In 05-'06, it was our first year in the league, we outperformed expectations, lots of student support, and I remember being surprised that so many non-students were showing up at the games.

Obviously, the arena opened in '06-'07, we went to the conference championship, was arguably the best year in program history.

Now, I look at the student support and I can't believe that it has taken such a negative turn. The TD Bank Sports Center used to be one of the top 2 or 3 arenas in the league, in terms of intimidation factor. The place ROCKED for every league game. It was Cornell, Clarkson, and Quinnipiac as the top intimidating rinks in the league. Now? We're at the bottom of the barrel. Attendance has dropped off, student support has dropped off, that excitement level just isn't there.

USCHO lists our average attendance this year at 2,524, and 81.8% of capacity. In 2007-'08, attendance averaged 2,922, or 94.8% of capacity. What has happened? Why have we lost an average of 500 fans/game. Something needs to be done about the lack of excitement people have regarding Quinnipiac hockey. This is the big program at this University. It's our football. I'd like to see the program really billed as THE exciting thing to do on campus. At the big football schools, they've marketed their football team to the students. Kids know that on Saturday afternoons, rain or shine, you go to the stadium to cheer on your classmates. There needs to be that excitement level around this program.

As I said, everything just feels "ho-hum" right now. I can't speak for the action on the ice because I really didn't have the ability to see a lot of games this year, but it's very sad to me to see how support has dwindled.

Yeah, it's the on-ice performance that I was asking about. The "support" issue you bring up is something that needs to be addressed but I think, as has been said numerous times, as the team improves (i.e. starts winning more than games) so will the support. I've come to the conclusion that people can't be forced to be die-hard fans like we are. ;)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

I think knocking a couple of bucks off the price to a ticket to a game on the hill might help the local walkup. Never happen though. As seen in the attendance threads for the various playoff series, the economy sucks and price is an issue. The frozen floor isn't even sold out.
