Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

55 minutes of great hockey followed by five minutes of near panic. In the end they held on for a 3-2 win over the Tigers and, more importantly, 2 very valuable league points, moving them into sole possession of 3rd place.

The game was nowhere near what the score was. We plain out-played and out-hustled most of the afternoon. To their credit, Princeton never gave up and kept at it which, combined with our late game slow down, allowed them to claw their way back.

Going without 3 of our top guys (the Jones' are still injured and Langlois was out with the flu) this game could have easily been a problem, but the rest of the team played hard. Possibly the most physical I've seen them this year. Hartzell was great when he needed to be. He made some huge saves that otherwise could have changed the way this game played out. Currie sandwiched a pair around Kevin Bui's first collegiate goal for all the scoring. Defense was solid when it needed to be.

A really nice way to finish up the first half and head into the holiday break. After a tough 2-game set at Nebraska just before New Year's, it's league play the rest of the way, starting at Ingall's on January 6th.

To all the players, good luck with finals this coming week and enjoy the holidays!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

A hard fought point out in Omaha tonight with a 2-2 tie against the Mavericks. The Jones boys were back in the lineup and Rand shook up the lines a bit. Not sure it worked the way he intended as we only put up 22 shots, our lowest total this season. The game was well played on both sides. We were fast and UNO was physical. None of the goals scored by either team were cheap. Both goalies made huge saves when they had to. Tomorrow should be interesting...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Very lackluster performance today in Omaha. The boys seemed very sluggish and UNO was both physical and fast on their skates, and they seemed to win most of the battles. Hartzell did his best to keep us in the game but the shortie he gave up when a Maverick split 2 Bobcat defenders was a backbreaker.

Time to fly home, rest up and get ready for the Bulldogs at Ingalls on Friday.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

The Whitney War 2012 begins tomorrow at 7 at Ingalls. For the first time in the past couple of years I feel we're about evenly matched with the Bulldogs. While I'm cautiously optimistic about our chances I'd feel a whole lot better if last weekend had gone a little differently. We'll just have to wait and see if they can pull it together and take it to the Bulldogs, since beating them in their barn is always sweet! ;) I hope to see lots of blue and gold in attendance.

Whatever happens, we're heading into the second half of league play and every point is critical. We can't afford to take any shifts off and need to grind it out from the opening faceoff to the final buzzer each and every game.

Go Q!!!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

A bit of bad news for the Q... John Dunbar has left the program and signed with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

While a fairly big loss for the Bobcats, I wish John nothing but the best in his future endeavors.

Congrats Mark and Luke.....a nice quality win against a team that has been difficult for your team to beat. Looks like you had pretty good instincts with your quote Mark!!

Thanks Mike! Congrats to SLU as well.

While we didn't skate our best game, we skated better than Yale for most of the night. To be honest, Yale looked sloppy. We weren't much better but I think had much better chances and more sustained pressure. At times late in the game we looked gassed but managed to make a pass or get a clear to stay out of trouble. Bottom line: we took home 2 points from our rival in their barn. Nothin' wrong with that!

On to Providence for a meeting with some Bears tomorrow. Will need another full 60-minute effort and hopefully will be carrying some momentum from tonight.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

After starting a little flat and falling behind 2-0 after the first, the Bobcats battled back to tie Brown on the road. All things considered they have to be happy with a 3-point weekend.

The Brown road game is always tough because when it's on Friday, we tend to look past them to Saturday's match with Yale. When it's a Saturday contest, we're still recovering/celebrating from the Friday Yale effort. Not to mention, Brown always plays us tough in their barn. onight was no exception. The Bears came out flying and really took it to us in the first. They were buzzing... we were flat. The noticeable difference from last night at Yale was the fact that Brown was able to skate out of their end and march right into ours virtually untouched. Giving them a 5-on-3 didn't help and they capitalized. Letting them get their second late in the period was almost a back breaker, but the boys came out in the second and started doing all the things they needed toand were rewarded with 2 goals of their own late in the 2nd within two minutes of each other.

The 3rd period was a little more even but I think it ended a bit in our favor, especially after an exceptional kill during 2 solid minutes at a 2-man disadvantage. Unfortunately we just couldn't find the net and secure the win. While 4 points would have been huge, the 3 moves us into a tie for second place with Colgate who heads to the Bank next weekend.

All in all a pretty good weekend and a good start to the second half of the season.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Huge, huge weekend at home for the Bobcats. We had probably our worst weekend thus far when we played Big Red and 'Gate in their barns... time to have our best weekend in ours! Realistically, we need 2 points at a minumum or we'll be mired back in the pack with our almost 3-week layoff looming.

Hartzell was on his game last weekend so I expect we'll see him tonight. Hopefully the rest of the team realizes the importance tonight's game has and comes out firing on all cylinders.

Students are still on break so it will be just the locals with a fair contingent of Cornell red in the house I'm sure. Let's drown 'em out! ;)

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

A nice effort with nothing to show for it. A couple of ill-timed mistakes were capitalized on by Cornell and their goalie stood on his head during a barrage at the end. This one may come back to haunt us as it was a game that could (should) have been won.

Hopefully they bounce back tonight against a 'Gate team that was throttled last night at Princeton. It seems like the Raiders are on a bit of of slide but cannot be taken lightly. Plus, they have Austin Smith who is having a phenomonal year and is a scoring machine.

With a 20 day layoff while the rest of the league plays catch-up, this is quite possibly our first "must win" of this season.

Yes, a very good effort by the Bobcats yesterday. I was impressed by your neutral zone trap — it effectively shut our offense down during the first and then affected our momentum in the second. If you guys had one or two more lucky bounces, the game could've easily went the other way. Good luck with the rest of the season!

I thought Iles was the difference in the game, stoned a couple of breakaways as well. I was right behind his net when the barrage happened at the end and when QU hit the post, I couldn't believe it. It was a great game, well played by both teams except for the first shorty allowed by QU.
