Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

The Friars got a tie last night against the last place team in HE, things ARE looking up!!! At least it's not a loss, you sewing circle naysayers. I call ä Providence tie an "Army Win".

Three more "Army wins" and the Friars might be able to "win" their way into the HE playoffs!!!!

It's Timmy Time baby and you know what that means.....Timmy Time quickly turns into Tourney Time!!! See you at the Garden then onto the NCAA regionals. After that he's bringing the magic to the land of 10,000 lakes!!!!

BANG THAT BUCKET BABY!!!! HHHHOOOOORRRRAAAAAYYYYY!!!! You sewing sisters don't know shizzznit!!!!

You can buy a 2011 Frozen Four T-Shirt at Friars.com - I like your positive attitude 91.

Thanks man. I can't help but to be pumped and jacked when it's TIMMY TIME!!! BANG THE BUCKETS FOR TIMMY TIME!!!!!

See last night was actually the start of something BIG! We're done with ties. We've had 7 this year in HE. Sure they give us points but we want wins and losses, NOT ties!!! So now we have the Mack where we want them baby! They are thinking that PC is pathetic this year but what they don't know is that the Friars are a well coached machine and Timmy has been lying in wait for the past SEVERAL seasons so he can sneak up on the rest of the league!!! It starts next weekend and kicks off in full next season.

Bobby D the Hockey Guy was in on this the whole time and THAT'S why Timmy A got PAID!!!! How embarrassed will the Sewing Circle naysayers be next year when we're at the top looking down on all those who said that Timmy was a joke of a coach who should do the right thing and quit or get fired????
I know that I'll be laughing at you hockey know-nothings!!! Me, SouthieFriar and Hoky will be laughing at all you area clowns cause WE KNOW HOCKEY and you don't know ****!!!

In your faces losers!!! Positivity Rocks!!! BANG THOSE BUCKETS!!!!

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

So I take it PC won't be taking 3/4 from MC for Maine next weekend?

That's what Timmy WANTS you to believe!!!! They're taking 4/4 from the Mack because we've got the better coach and he's going to WILL his team to victory!!! Get on the bandwagon or get out of the way!!!!

BANG THEM BUCKETS!!!!! WWWWWOOOOOOOOO!!!!

91, how many years running has the same person been telling us that? It's just a shame they don't hand out those trophies for winning games in October because that's the only time Army's teams ever get W's.

Looking back on the conversations on this board for several years now, what I still find amusing were the few people who came on here over the last few years, blasted us for "being negative," when this program is at the lowest point in its history. 3 straight years of no Hockey East playoffs -- never mind the days of hoping for an NCAA berth, they can't even crack the Top 8 of what's turned into a middling conference outside the top 3-4. Almost 2 years without a road win in the conference. Three straight years of combined wins you can count on one hand after the middle of January (actually you don't even need 5 fingers to do so lol). And an offense that continues to rank as one of the worst in Division 1.

Those aren't opinions, they're all undeniable facts.

And not only that -- a clear, recent lack of competitive fire on the ice. When you get blitzed at this UML team by the tune of 7-2, and lose 7-1 to a pretty soft UVM team two weeks ago, that's just plain embarrassing. Then again, Army's teams all fold up shop at this time of year anyway.

Blame Army, blame The Hockey Guy, blame the school, blame the lack of recruiting or the players -- whatever the case may be, the "Tim Army Era" is officially a total disaster in every way shape and form.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

This is just sad. I don't blame the players. I just can't. I believe they are genuinely trying and playing their hearts out. They're just as frustrated as you people are. Something has to change, but I don't think anything actually will. It's tragic to see how far this program has fallen.

I really hope we have a decent crowd for senior night. I still can't believe it's scheduled at the same time as basketball's senior night/basically Marshon Brooks night. It's just so unfair and so rude to the graduating seniors. They deserve at least some recognition for their efforts from both fans and the school.

Yes.

Sooooo, I stopped going to games and the team goes winless? My strategy is no longer working. Everything this year has been one massive FAIL.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

I have given up trying to be a stats guy as I am off seeking a better life as recommended by Hokydad. That being said, does anyone know how many D-1 teams fail to qualify for post season play, thus dashing any hopes of games in March or dare I say, April. I am thinking it is only two of the 58. PC looks like it will once again be one of the two. There used to be a time in my life that you just expected an NCAA bid.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

According to Projo.com the Red Sox are playing for the Mayor's Cup. What's up with that?

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

I think the situation at PC is in part due to the compensation package signed by Army, he recieves a salary and that salary does not include any extra for overtime so making the playoffs would be all free work for him......so its time for Driscoll to redo his contract, extend it and add bonuses for extra games then allow him 4-5 years to set up a roster to go all the way

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

I was at the Yale-Cornell game on Saturday night (daughter is a CU grad and I'm from New Haven). It reminded me what a college hockey game can be, and used to be like at PC. At Yale, there were 3500 fans and it was a standing room sell out. Bands from both schools, (Yes, they bussed down from Ithaca while PC's band won't go across campus) alums, students, and just plain hockey fans. An incredible atmosphere. I'm a former PC hockey season ticket holder, who had been attending games since 1974. I stopped going two years ago. Gave up the tickets. It was too depressing to go to the morgue that Schneider had become. I see no hope for the program until personnel changes occur, starting with the AD and coach. Army is a terrible coach. That has been obvious for years, yet AD Driscoll seems to have no clue. So we have a clueless AD and coach, students who won't go to a game at their on campus rink, an empty lifeless arena, and players who are trying, but have everything stacked against them, and have to self-motivate. Judging by the empty seats in Schneider that I have seen on the Cox 3 telecasts, there are alot of you out there like me.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

There certainly are Dillon. I stopped going a couple of seasons ago, I know TheFreds and others have as well. All of us long-time season ticket holders who supported the program, went on road trips, attended NCAA games, and loved going to Schneider. Those glory days are long since past and I agree nobody is in control there who knows what they're doing.

Hate to say "toldja" to some of the contrarians...but Army's extension was a bad, bad, bad, bad BAD idea. Especially after how they had extended Pooley, who at least had done something in his early seasons. Army, by comparison, had accomplished absolutely nothing to warrant that kind of a deal. You would've thought they had learned that lesson...
Granted I wasn't the only one on here who felt that way, but there were a few people who said they needed to extend Army's contract as a sign of confidence to the rest of the hockey world and potential recruits that the program was stable. And it's been stable alright...3 straight years of failing to qualify for your own conference's post-season....lol.

At any rate, what I worry the most about is that the school simply does not care about the hockey program anymore. Retaining a coach with a 65-117 record and 3 straight years of bottom-rung finishes is a sign they really could care less in my eyes. We'll see what happens.

Good to know I'm not alone. Misery does like company. You are correct on that it appears the school does not seem to care about the program anymore. It should, as the basketball program has little shot to ever get out of the Big East bottom tier and the players they have to take in to try and have not done the school proud in recent years off the court. The hockey program is another story though, and there is no reason they can't be competing for a top HE spot and NCAA berth year in and year out. I'm itching to get back into it.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Though I think its pretty safe to say that this weekend will be the last of the Army era. One thing that could hold it up, is if the school has to buy out his contract and Keno Davis's. Davis has I believe 4 more years on his deal - but it's looking more and more like the school is ready to cut bait on him. Don't know if they can afford paying out 2 buy-outs.....

I sure hope that you are right but I can almost guarantee that PC will do nothing and we'll see Timmy, doing his usual best to imitate a D1 coach, behind the bench for the Friars next season.

Unlike the great Hoky minds of Dad and his son Southie, I'm not an insider so I have nothing to base my statement on but PC's track record of sitting on hands pretending to be busy solving the problem. Nothing like an offseason to make people forget about your joke of a record or lose interest in your porgram all together.

Driscoll doesn't have the stones to fire Timmy so I think he's with us running the program further into the dirt until Derek graduates. I may be wrong on this (I hope so) but probably not!!!!

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Father Shanley is unlikely to do anything right now but "stand behind" Keno Davis while the season is still going on. The hoops team isn't just losing but isn't even trying. Coupled with the laughable loss to DePaul and that pathetic "effort" at Marquette yesterday, I think it's looking more and more like desperation time for bouncy-ball. They're getting trashed in the press, they lost some season ticket holders after the off-court problems and they're now getting booed at the Dunk by what has been deemed an increasingly "toxic" crowd. And once you've lost that core, you're not getting it back -- it's only going to get uglier once Brooks isn't around next year to provide a few fleeting highlights.

Because of that, and because hockey isnt nearly as important to them, I think it's more likely Davis gets shown the door first. Thus, I think Army will be back for one more year -- a farewell tour (lol), because as ChrisP mentions it's unlikely they dump both of these guys in one off-season. Pooley left the year before his deal expired, I think Army is likely to do the same and leave in 2012, before the school can turn down another extension -- or do a buyout, which is naturally a lot more affordable if it's one year remaining and not two. That way he looks like he had another opportunity before they cut ties.

That makes him a lame duck coach, which isn't good for anyone. The players know it, the recruits know it -- but it's likely going to be reality if he's back here next season. Short of him putting a 20-win season and a top tier finish (or an NCAA berth) together, I think it's safe to say that Army is done here. It's clearly over -- just a matter of when it becomes official...this year or the next. And how much of an issue Davis and the hoops team is.

Let's put it this way -- it'll be a shocker if Davis and Army are both back here next year. There's less a likelihood of that happening IMO than both being fired if you had to put odds on it, as unlikely as the latter is, even if it seems to be deserved in both cases.

Or Driscoll himself, who has been an utter disaster on his own. He hired both of these clowns not to mention other under-performing coaches -- at what point does the AD stand up and be accounted for??
