I love the Instant Replay in Hockey East. It really keeps the controversies down!

Those refs in the last 2 mins of regulation and overtime called a much different game then the first 58 minutes.

My other thing I would like to say is the PC kids are working their butts off in the corners. It is great to watch as they aren't the most talented but they are not getting out worked.

Cavbim and I talked about how the officials always seem to try to bail out the Big Four teams in the last 5 minutes of any game. I don't think Ritchie and Quinn should have used that as their blueprint of how to officiate the third period and overtime.

And while we're on the subject, the one penalty they did manage to call against the Alternator Theives was pretty crappy too.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Prior to instant replay, that is a Maine win because it was ruled a goal on the ice. PC is now 2 for 2 this year on instant replays at home on no goals. It is encouraging to see the Friars gain a point in a game that they did not play well for a period and a half. They will need a more consistent effort tomorrow night if they are to have their third 3 point weekend of the year.

Couldn't tell that was down the other end of the ice from where I was sitting. No idea how the ref could have said it went in before the buzzer when the goal light never went on.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Theoretically I disagree about that. With the replay the refs have gotten lazy. Being right behind the goal all Quinn was doing was looking at the back of the net. He was clearly unconcerned with the clock. He wanted tomake sure he didn't lose the puck and make sure he saw it in. The clock issue is too easy to clear up and this was simple. It was clear time had expired and I would say about half a second. I could see someone just in front of me sitting next to the goal judge ask him while they were reviewing and the goal judge answered by waving off the goal with his hands. Inthe old days if the other ref and more recently the linesman 1 and then 2 could be asked, but he would have most likely asked the goal judge. Now why I said technically I remember a women's game in Deraney's first or second year where the goal judge said the goal defintely was after the whistle and the refs totally ignored him (it was just a 2 man crew then though).

Speaking of the women's game Ritchie use to do women's games as did Kevin Keenan--Keenan in particular was awful at that level which is the second problem in Refs, they are not competent at a lower level god help them on the HEA level.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Cav....a half a second late is exactly what the replay showed after the goal.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

haha i'll be at both of them...can't promise my mental state on saturday as it's the PC/URI basketball game beforehand...

And I hoped you enjoyed the Silence of the Rams... PC up by 13 with 32 seconds and change...

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

oh i definitely liked the bball game...hockey not so much.

Did anyone else actually attend that travishamockery last night? If you lose 5-0, nothing went right, I'm assuming.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Thank you Cox 3.....I am still thinking no higher than 8th in HE.....you can't win taking penalties because all your good players are beat from killing them off.....even the PP suffers as does the normal game.....write it off to a young team that has improved I think thanks to Rask joining the staff

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Well its off to another also ran ECAC opponent in Quinnipac and if we lose that one it will be a real long winter as the rest of the schedule has a lot of real hockey teams on it making an eighth place finish a work in progress........sure glad I did not buy playoff tickets yet

 That's not very nice!

I'm actually looking forward to this game. For a lot of strange reasons, I've loosely followed your threads (very entertaining for the most part) since we played a couple of seasons ago. I realize PC is a much different team than that one that came to Hamden and we're obviously not playing the way we'd like. Hopefully it will be a good game.

Any recommendations for us travelling folk? Decent area establishments?

I hate to agree with a post that, from an objective point of view, sounds this paranoid, but that is exactly what I saw too.
and i saw that crap a couple years ago at BU when Maine was "supposed to suck and BU was supposed to win"... it was not like they needed help beating Maine, but they got it.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Well they are off to a good Christmas break then the days of playing junior hockey are over and the real season begins, I wish them well as they do put in the effort the entire game but I do think their lack of real experience will show in HE......hope the seniors step up and lead the way and Santa brings them a Power Play

Merry Christmas to all and a healthy New Year

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Some recruiting news.

Friars pick up a new recruit for 2012 - Brent Norris. Norris is a Ottawa native who plays for the Nepean Raiders of the CJHL in Ontario. He's a 5'10" 180 pound center who can also play wing. In 34 games so far this season he has 24 goals. Scouting reports say "has speed and he can score. Has a knack around the net and has a nice one-timer." He is '93 birthdate, so again he's not due to come to PC until 2012.

Have to believe the staff is still looking for players for next year, as there are a bunch of seniors leaving, and as of now we only have two players set to come in next year - Shane Luke and Craig Wyszomirski. Brent Norris's stat page below:

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Hey, can anyone help me with some ideas to get a jersey for rabid 10-year old fan. I called the bookstore and the clerk said they haven't had any jerseys in a while. I've looked all over the place online and can only come up with a XXL from the official website and various other outlets. I searched eBay and the like and can only find a white Goodwin from 03-04 and an all-black with the fisherman Lundberg from the same era.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Good luck. Haven't seen jersey's there in years.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Someone please riddle me this..... Why is alex Velischek NOT on the roster anymore.

I take it that he has decided to take his talents elsewhere. Do we have another deserter from Timmy's Army?

This is a big story that seems to be going untold, unless I'm just not being consulted by Timmy and Bobby Driscoll on hockey matters anymore.
