Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

ND is in a big slide and fan base has dropped off. How amny games have you been to there? How many families do you know who have kids play there? 0/2? shocking. little hint for you, blogs are not gospel

Hokydad I don't read hockey blogs and I actually could care less about ND's problems this season.

All I do know is they were (and I'm going to put this in big numbers again so you will understand) 31-6-3 last year.

I don't need to read a blog or talk to families or go to their games to know that's not "underperforming."

You said they had "underperformed" 2 years in a row -- and that's not true whatsoever. That's all I am saying. And your ragging on their rink is pretty ridiculous at this point when they're about to have one of the top arenas in the nation exclusively for college hockey. The way you described ND with their record and their rink it was like you were talking about Merrimack.

This year -- yeah, it's been a struggle. Where did I write that it wasn't? But at the same time when PC beat them I didn't see you minimizing the win, did you?

I just find it ironic you have no problem throwing ND under the bus but when someone says anything remotely negative about PC -- which has had an even worse season by far and in the CONTEXT of the larger picture has little going in its favor as opposed to the general direction of ND with its new rink and success over the last few years -- you fly off the handle. Irrationally as well.

You seem to be quite interested in deflecting criticism of PC and defending the program but have no issue criticizing other teams. For someone who just "shrugs off the losses" because hockey is "just a game," it's very strange...

So Hokydad finds that being a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament is under-performing.

Why are we surprised he came up with this kind of stellar analysis again? I'd call this par for the course.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

It is. His tunnelvision never ceases to amaze! :p

You dont want to read their threads because it does not serve your manipulated rationale.

They lost 5 to 1 to Bemidji State in first round of playoffs, huge dissapointment
Came back this year and are under 500, just lost 2 in a row to a 2-14 team and are 9th in conference. Getting trashed with the exact same comments on there board that PC is here. Exact same ones.

You want to talk about last years record. You are just as guilty of the same crap you accuse me of.

But hey, they get Bowling Green this weekend for 2 more, a team they tied and had to go into OT to beat the other game this year.

PC hammers them and its a negative.

Anyway you want to look at it, they are in just as big a slide as PC is and to not admit it means you have zero credibility

It's not "manipulated rationale." It's called common sense.

A disappointing, one game loss? Absolutely. But hell, at least they GOT THERE.

Does that mean they had, as you called it, an "underperforming season"?

31-6-3. CCHA champs. #1 NCAA seed.

Tim Army can only dream of putting that kind of year together, don't kid yourself.

Again, context.

They ARE having a down year. I SAID THAT ALREADY. Did you not read that?
That doesn't mean the program itself, on the whole, has now sunk down to the level you apparently think it's on, however.

ND is having a down year after putting consecutive superb seasons with NCAA appearances in a row.

PC is having a down year after a down year and hasn't done anything in years and years.

Big difference there which you fail totally to recognize.

You want to talk about last years record. You are just as guilty of the same crap you accuse me of.

No, I look at things in the context of the larger picture. Everything you react to is this week, last week or maybe, if we're lucky, last month. It's like you've just woken up from a coma, you have no perspective on anything.

Again, I recognize ND is down -- right now. Doesn't mean they are sinking into the abyss where the Friars are as a program. This season is one thing but in the larger context, ND's program is going in a totally different direction than Providence's.

It's unbelievable you can't see that.

But hey, they get Bowling Green this weekend for 2 more, a team they tied and had to go into OT to beat the other game this year.

PC hammers them and its a negative.

Someone said ND is a great team this season? Someone said ND did a good job playing BG? Are you hearing voices in your head?

And you can't let those BG wins go even now, can you?

The reality is that those of us who cautioned those wins weren't going to be indicative of the kind of year PC might have were right -- and you were wrong.

Anyway you want to look at it, they are in just as big a slide as PC is and to not admit it means you have zero credibility

This season they've been a bust (though overall they're still not as bad as PC).

As a program, they're not in "as big a slide as PC." Sorry. Not even close.

When Notre Dame finishes dead last in its own conference and doesn't even qualify for its own conference playoffs 2 years in a row, then you can say that.

Until then, sorry, it's not the same.

If you actually think ND's program is currently on the same level as PC's, it might be time to adjust your medication. Seriously.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

a twist in this discussion for a moment

We picked up our first '11 recruit. A fact that was worries me a bit since its a fairly large class to replace and really we need an upgrade.

It turns out to be one of Derek's Gunnery teammates-- Craig Wyszomirski--who is a big defenseman so he sounds like a competent replacement for Eric Baiers. he's the 5th Gunnery player to get recruited to hockey East. 2 for Vermont who were in for the weekend to see their team. A kid to UML for '11 and Derek and Craig. Craig is at least passes for an offensive defenseman on the prep level. He has a 4-13-17 line and is 8th on the team and the top scoring defenseman (well tied w/ another but he's got only 1 goal). Derek by the way has a 15-18-33 line and is 3rd on the team. Wyszomirski will be a true freshman when he arrives. I also am pretty sure he's another NJ kid. After we fanned on our last 2 attempts to grab a Dman out of NJ.

As with most of the other recruits he's landed how capable are these kids of playing in Division 1? Seems like we hear about these players and their impressive numbers ahead of time, but then they come in and can't perform on this level of play.

It is surprising Providence didn't recruit some players from the league that Beaudry played in.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

So yeah. Any hope against UHN in the Graveyard of Friar Hockey tomorrow?

Spot UNH a couple early goals. It sounds counter-intuitive, but they've given up 2-goal leads in something like 5 of their last 6 games.

You should convince your AD to reschedule the games for next week.

Friars win better in Lent, right?

I must also add, aside from anything else that Hokydad has said that was amusingly wrong, I can't take a poster seriously when they continually misuse there/their/they're, to/too/two; it's just one of my pet peeves.

They are trying. Cross from Pembroke. Also know they are watching several Dmen in the same league. Stan Moore grew up just across the boarder from the Ottawa Valley so Im sure he is very familiar with this league. He has been seen at Cornwall Colts games on several occasions.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Recruiting them and getting them are two different things......would you commit to PC the way they are now ????

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

5 - 2 final....the march to 100 goes on.......4 goals from one player ya think you would spend a little time on him defensively

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

8 wins now in their last 48 Hockey East games

Instead of throwing more fuel on the fire with his futile stats, I'll just leave this question on the table -- if it's not worth firing Army because there are so many other problems, why even have a program in the first place?

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Anyone pick up on this from Army's recap comments?

"a couple critical mistakes with the wrong guys on the ice and that’s what happens"
