I saw Saturdays game. Rocco was outstanding. I liked Simpson and Nelson from that game too. Rocco doesn't have the typical overage-Canadian thug punk identity of a typical UND player. I used to feel sorry that he would never fit in, since he didn't have one of the requirements, he wasn’t overage, from Canada, a punk, or a thug. But at least now he is an older than normal freshmen. Maybe some teammates will teach him how to pee in the elevator, or the proper way to ride in a cop car.

Completely agree with this. Let's make Rookie of the Year truly that. Not some guy who has been parked in Juniors (Minor Leagues) for 2 yrs and coming in as a 21 year old frosh who doesn't even need a fake id to buy beer.

What if the player has been on the team, but has not played in a game? Is say 20 minutes enough to lose eligibility for the rookie of the year? What if they have not played for several seasons? Could you ride the bench for 3 years (assuming you still met the age limitation), and then play your Senior year, win every possible award, including Rookie of the Year? What if you never played at all, waited until you were a Senior in college (again, assuming age limit met), and decided to play? Does academic status matter at all here?
Does the second requirement refer to the college year, or the college hockey year?
Depending on the answer to that question, do we look at that particular institution, or do we look at either the hockey season as a whole, or the average length of a college year?
In addition to that question, do we include the summer? What about school's on quarter systems? There are several more questions along this line if we decide to refer to the college year as opposed to the college hockey year.
What if the player did not turn 20 during his first year of college, is now 19 and will turn 20 during this season, has not played (or practiced) at the school, but attended the school the previous season and is considered an academic sophomore?

- Can't turn 20 during the actual year. Meaning if someone is 19 from Oct - Apr (the hockey season), but then turns 20 in Nov of that year, he is ineligible for ROY. If someone is 18 when the season starts in Oct, but turns 19 before the end of the year (Dec 31), they are excluded.
- Must be 1st year on the team. Can't ride pine for 2 yrs (and the likelihood of coming in as a true frosh - 18 yr old - and riding pine for 2 yrs is slim) and then be eligible Coaches will park you in the Minor Leagues anyhow in this case.

Really, next you will be telling me that half the sue team isn't from Canada.

I was never a fan of any of the Lucia boys but you never want to see a talented young man get injured before he even starts. Hopefully he'll be back sooner than the three months.

Who cares where they are from. I have never understood that. Just give me a good product on the ice and I could care less what state or country or planet they are from.

That sucks. Did he do it playing hockey?

edit: Just found an article where a teammate fell on his leg during a battle drill. Ouch.

Mario Lucia, a 2011 second-round pick by the Wild and son of Gophers hockey coach Don Lucia, might miss the first three months of his freshman season at Notre Dame after sustaining a leg injury in off-season practice Wednesday.

Lucia said he broke his left fibula and suffered ligament damage in his left ankle when a teammate fell on him during a battle drill.

"Hopefully I'll get back quicker than three months, but I'm in a cast for seven weeks, so there's not much I can do about that," Lucia said.

Lucia, who scored 42 goals and 94 points and won an RBC Cup with Penticton of the BCHL last year, is still hoping to make the U.S. team for this winter's world junior championships, but he knows it's in jeopardy.

"Hopefully I can get a few games in before the world junior camp," Lucia said. "In the meantime, I'll just work to do well in school and have a good second half. But this is very disappointing."

then why watch the souix at all, every single AHL, and NHL team puts a better product on the ice.
