Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

Re: Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

Never disagreed with any of that. Just pointing out that the other guy's points were legit as well ;)

Did I say they were not valid? Certainly from a pure academic standpoint they likely are. Did Grimaldi take enough credits to be considered a Sophomore? Should anyone who spent 1 year on campus be considered a Sophomore? What about a high school student that takes enough credits to be considered a Sophomore? Should they not be considered a Freshman? What is more important, the time on campus or the credits taken? What if I spend just one semester on campus, but earn enough credits to be considered an academic Sophomore? On the converse, what if I spend 2 years at the school, yet only go part-time and have not acquired the credits necessary to be considered a Sophomore...am I a Freshman? A Junior? All of these (along with many more) questions are valid in relation to the question of whether someone should be considered a "Freshman."

However, this is a hockey board. Consequently, I would argue that the academic arguments are moot. Few people care if Thomas Vanek or Zach Parise are considered "Juniors" or "Seniors" or if they have graduated. They have no athletic eligibility any longer. All that truly matters is what the governing body (NCAA) says about a player's eligibility. If they conclude that Rocco Grimaldi is still a Freshman (which they have), then he should be on the same level as any other Freshman coming into college hockey this season. Why? Well, that's what I discussed in my post as far as why I feel that Grimaldi should be on the same level.

Everyone has their own opinions. Ultimately, I don't think anyone really cares too much one way or the other. If a voter who is deciding a Freshman of the Year Award (or more commonly called "Rookie of the Year" in the WCHA) decides to overlook Grimaldi because of the 4 games from last season, that is their choice. They certainly have arguments in their favor. My point is that I feel those arguments are flawed.

Easy turbo. Not going to argue about something I never intended to argue about in the first place, so I will make this short. You quoted and replied to my comment, not vice versa.

I was just pointing out that the guy made valid points and didn't deserve the snarky response. I didn't say or imply anything else. Not sure why you felt the need to quote me, but I logically took that as you misread the premise of my response :)

I genuinely don't care one way or the other, which is why I don't want to argue with you about it.

No worries Chester. Hopefully next time we understand where each other is coming from earlier. :)

BTW FS23. I am working on a college hockey game simulator and would love it if you would try it out and gave me your thoughts when I'm finished. Entering player data in as we speak. You came to mind first when I thought of whom to have test it :)

Sounds like fun. I'll gladly test it out. At CHW they have a game simulator that was a lot of fun to play with, but it is reliant on KRACH rankings. It really doesn't work until at least halfway through the season.

Mine goes more in depth than that. Allows you to set lines, power play and penalty kill units, then run simulations on the head-to-heads. Unfortunately, the advanced stats I wanted to use aren't readily available for college hockey, so I had to use some more basic stats.

The whole thing works based on what you project a player's season stats will be. I did this so you won't have to keep manually adjusting season stats during the season, but that will work as well if so desired.

Last year's stats will be loaded for each team and player by default. You will have the ability to modify them.

Should at least be entertaining :)

CHW's incorporates player and team (i.e. team powerplay %/pk% and the like) stats as well. It was incredibly in depth. They used it for their "What If" feature prior to the tournament. I'm looking forward to seeing how your simulator compares with theirs.

What I meant is, you can mix and match your own power play units. It doesn't rely on just their power play/penalty kill percentages.

I am excited to show it to you. Would be open to all input you have :)

Sean Kurlay should be interesting to watch. He will be reunited with a couple former Indiana Ice teammates in Oxford so I can see him having a big freshman year. Also, with the display he put on at World Junior Camp one has to believe he will be ready to go from the beginning of the season.

Re: Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

Wow, just checked the forum since I posted yesterday, didn't mean to start such a debate. I was more referring to the whole redshift aspect of kids still being considered "freshmen." No knocks against Grimaldi, kids a flat out stud and probably gonna crush it, wouldn't be surprised to see him becoming a Gionta 2.0. That said, i just think its exponentially harder to come in as a true freshman and excel then it would be to already have a year under your belt.

Re: Prospective Top Freshman in 2012-13

Grimaldi is a sophomore. I find it pretty funny that UND fanboys are supporting NCAA rules that say he is a freshman. I thought all you sugar beet farmers were against NCAA rules? I guess since you couldn't win without a bunch of overage Canadians, you added a bunch of Canucks, and now even got your own midget a year older.
