Preliminary & Ongoing Pairwise Watch and 2013 NCAA Tournament Musing Thread

Re: Preliminary & Ongoing Pairwise Watch and 2013 NCAA Tournament Musing Thread

... who from 9th on down deserves to be in the tournament over BC or Clarkson?

All four conference champions made the field. So what's the rule? Only teams that win their semifinal are eligible?
Syracuse and Northeastern -- is that right? You want to give your spot away? Oh, no. You're not getting out of this that easy. And you better beat Harvard, too. This week, I'm a big BC fan.

Here kitty, kitty, kitty. :D

Re: Preliminary & Ongoing Pairwise Watch and 2013 NCAA Tournament Musing Thread

LG4 so you want to totally disregard the whole season? You want to take #4 ranked team out of consideration because they got eliminated in the semi's by a very good Northeastern team? Heck it's not like UCONN beat them. BC has been a very good team all season. They have limped into March and need to get focused for sure but not out of the tournament.

p.s thanks I now know it is "THE STUPIDEST POST EVER!"

I am responding knowing full well you're just trolling, but I'll humor you: who from 9th on down deserves to be in the tournament over BC or Clarkson?

That gives us 8 teams right there. Why bother having a regular season?

Ugh I don't even know why I'm responding, you are clearly just trolling...

UCONN fan(s) have nutting better to do..... Maybe they should stick to B-Ball.... :D.....I'm putting my battle armor on now for the return salvo. ;)

Re: Preliminary & Ongoing Pairwise Watch and 2013 NCAA Tournament Musing Thread

You afraid of the Crimson making the FF and taking care of the Gophers. :D
I realize that the Gophers may not even be competing at the Frozen Four, and if they are, either BC or Harvard is capable of beating them. But I think that Eagles versus Gophers would be a great game, and I hope it comes to be this season.

Re: Preliminary & Ongoing Pairwise Watch and 2013 NCAA Tournament Musing Thread

Maybe this year the #2 through #8 teams should be allowed an antitrust exemption to cartelize and put together an all-star squad to play Minny?

Let me hasten to say I'm just having fun; otherwise, people will probably start posting their top-to-bottom recommendations for that fantasy team!

Which set of rankings would you use to select which teams are #2 through #8? HAHAHAHA!!!!

I was really hoping for a BC/Minnesota final but since BC fell to 4th it won't happen.

If BC can't get it done though, I'd be almost as excited for Cornell/Minnesota. That game, I think, would be just as good.

Cornell and BC are pretty even. That game earlier this year that BC won in overtime was my favorite of the year -- not just because of the result. Quality game for 60+ minutes. I think either would have the talent to pull off the upset.

Those are the only two I could see doing it though. ***EDIT: On thinking about it, that Harvard defense might be enough to get a low scoring game into OT and then from there it'd almost be a coin flip.*** Fortunately it does seem that Minnesota might have to go through both Cornell and BC. If they win the title, they'll have earned it.

Just so you know, if Minnesota doesn't win, I will never, ever, ever let you guys hear the end of it. :D

Fine, but if we lose to UND and BC does as well, then you better shut up pretty fast.

I'm a little worried because the Gophs only have four Canadians on the roster, and I've been told by a hockey expert that a team needs at least six to have a chance. :o

I'm not exactly rooting for you guys, but you aren't going to lose to NoDak. Sixth time is never the charm.

Good point. How about any team that any poster on this thread has advocated for the Elite Eight? That would give us a pool of about 15 teams.....

But then again, that still might not make much difference this year!

Harvard likewise has only four Canadians, but it also has seven Minnesotans! That ought to count for something! BTW, what is the precise equivalency ratio between Canadians and Minnesotans? Not to stir up a hornet's net or anything....

No kidding, I thought the same thing yesterday, but my phrasing was a little different. "Could an All Star Team from the Quarter Final pool excluding Minny, beat the Gophers?" was my version. No disrespect to the other 7 teams, I just thought it might be a good game.

Seriously, I think that NoDak has by far the best chance of upsetting the Gophers. There is only so long a team can withstand a constant barrage of teams coming at them with their A+ game before the inevitable happens. Add the familiarity these two teams have, and the fact that they played so recently, and the chance that one team or the other has developed significantly or added a surprise twist to the repertoire is all but eliminated.

I do hope that Minny runs it - they are good enough to make history.

That said, in 10 or 15 years, when the girls playing at the D-1 level are bigger, better, faster, and stronger even than this group, the 2011 - 2012 - 2013 - 20?? Gophers can come hang with the 1977 - 1982 Wildcats in the "remember When" section and watch the next group of pioneers make history;)

Well, I think the perfect mix is 12 Minnesotans, 4 Massachuettians, 2 Wisconsinites & 2 Michiganders.

Well, it worked for Herbie, right?!

Give that all-star team a week to practice together before the game, and the Gophers beat em.

Give that all-star team an entire season to practice together, and well, it would depend on goal tending then. If Raty is for real, Gophers still win, but by a much closer margin. If not, then the All-Star teams depth would be the deciding factor, I believe.

Re: Preliminary & Ongoing Pairwise Watch and 2013 NCAA Tournament Musing Thread

Interesting thought about women's hockey just occurred to me......

If this were the NHL, then after Round 1 of everybody's fantasy picks, some poster would rightly object that every all-star team needs some muckers, citing the addition of Paul Henderson to enable the Canadian team to beat the Soviets with some gritty play back in the day.

But looking over vicb's list above, it's clear you'd see an awful lot of grit and defensive skill there (certainly the ones I've seen play this year). What is it about women's hockey that accounts for that?
