Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news

Liberals believe you can run your personal life but they'll run your money for you.
Conservatives believe you can run your money but they'll run your personal life for you.

Conservatives want to run your bedroom; liberals want to run your wallet.

I've never had a liberal "run my wallet". I've had conservatives do that though.

You're a Minnesotan. The DFL legislature there has historically raised your taxes*. That's running your wallet. They choose what to spend it on, not you.

*Not saying the other side hasn't as well, but one is perceived as more prolific at it.

Bullsh_t. The Republicans just call them fees. Oh, and they make them regressive fees.

No, that's the price of having a society worth living in. Is coca cola also telling you how to use your wallet when they raise prices?

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news

This is my opinion of what the average conservative wants: to work and be left alone. I'd add that I think the vast majority don't have much trust in the government. The start of this was undoubtedly JFK's assassination and everything that has happened in the 50+ years since. I don't think conservatives trust what they can't see with their own eyes either. These in no way reflect my own personal beliefs, just what I have observed.

But you vote for people who deny rights to everyone they deem undesirable? Either you are full of crap or you have no idea what being left alone means.

And dont say they arent important to the average conservative because the average conservative is voting on those issues. If they were voting on anything else they wouldnt have elected Dubya, supported half the Clown Show that was up for office, wouldnt be forcing many of these laws on the state level...etc. Just because YOU might not care doesnt mean the average conservative doesnt.

Well the economy booms here under the DFL (who taxes us) and crashes under GOPers (who spend but cut taxes) so I am not sure we are the example you should use. The money they "take" from us goes to improving life here.

Actually, liberals believe that if you want nice things, they need to be paid for.

Today's 'conservatives' believe that you don't need nice things, but the richest aren't rich enough, and need their taxes cut, which will either go on credit, or come out of the social safety net. Neither of which is actually conservative.

Oooh! Oooh! I know! This is where you're supposed to say:

"Libertarians want to you to run your own life, like an adult!"

It's like the recitations and sloganeering of an AA meeting, but worse.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news

Liberals believe you can run your personal life but they'll want some of your money for those less fortunate than you.
Conservatives believe your money should go to those more fortunate than you and they'll run your personal life for you.

I think that's closer. I'm sure the response will be that those aren't real conservatives, but those are the conservatives in office that you are voting for.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news

Ah yes, be left alone. Explains the obsession with abortion, birth control, gay marriage. All that stuff that is so intrusive to the daily life of the conservative

Beleive whatever you want to think conservatives beleive, I don't think I am going to be much help.

Drew may be right - which was kind of my original point. If pinned, the right will reiterate the same set of usual positions - abortion, small government, blah, blah. But in reality the right doesn't seem too concerned with the issues...if the issues change, no matter. They elect Trump because he talks to supporting the disenfranchised. Trump pulls a 180 and supports wealthy instead. His supporters don't care. He potentially drops many of his other positions - the establishment conservatives may care - but by and large, the right will support him no matter what. Why? Because they hate the left. And that's what they stand for.

Righto. The DFL in Minnesota has cleverly turned the state into a differentiated dynamo.

Its rather simple. If we were a low tax state with cheap, crappy infrastructure, we would be competing with Texas and Arizona. Problem is we're total fly over land...with terrible climate. We would get our butt handed to us. In kind of the way that Wisconsin, Ohio, etc are finding out. So rather than that, we've cleverly positioned ourselves upscale. With high taxes, and excellent services/infrastructure. Minnesota is not Walmart, we're Macy's. And by all the business rankings, its working. Other states have been studying what we're doing here and trying to replicate the model. Good luck with that.

There's a fair amount of truth to that; there's a lot of nice in Minnesota. But there's something dark going on in the Land of Sky Blue Waters too, or you wouldn't throw it all away with that hockey program only a mother could love.

That Macy's comment is dead on. I might steal that.

And let me just add this, one needs only look to our neighbors to the east to see what happens when you let conservative economic principles run amok in a booming state.

*buzzer* I'm sorry, the correct answer is: Globalists want to run both.

It's important to remember the vast majority of voters are pretty uninformed. When I said what I thought the average conservative was voting for I wasn't claiming that the political party was actually working towards accomplishing that. I think to a large degree it's true on the other side as well. There's certainly an element that is anti-abortion, anti-gay, whatever but I think there are a lot less than you realize.
