Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

I seriously don't understand why we can't engage Taiwan. I get that it ****es off China, but **** them. They've been encroaching into the South China Sea for a couple years now.

It's time to reassert ourselves there.

Contacting a world leader shouldn't be considered a breach of protocol.

China needs to be reeled in before they make the big move, and invade Taiwan and/or the Philippines. They've already been erecting these little island bases out in the South China Sea. It is very obvious preparation for some sort of future action.

Unfortunately, we're so distracted by ISIS (which China is obviously counting on), that we don't care. We should care. Taiwan and the Philippines are allies for the US, despite what the current strongman in Manila thinks.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

So MI's AG is filing a lawsuit to stop the recount. After claiming emails!, he says it will stop a frivolous process that otherwise would circumvent the will of the voters. To that Stein say 'she wants to check to see if there's any tampering'.

Why is it the left can't speak clearly? She should say what she means...that is, she's sure MI Republicans have committed widespread voter fraud and the public needs to know. The right went to war years ago.

While I like your quoted Trump joke, you really need to put down the Bern-out Kool-Aid. How many times on these political threads over recent years, has it been pointed out that studies have shown that so-called "voter fraud" is so insignificant, as to be a joke?

I don't think the results will change at all. I just like pointing out the hypocrisy of the right yelling about voter fraud all these years, and then when someone actually wants a recount, they try to block it or refuse to do hand counts, while simultaneously yelling there is still voter fraud, just in "other" places.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

I'm a bit ashamed about this, but since he blamed Obama, I had a laugh at the expense of my UAL pilot friend:

"I feel sick to my stomach that our government would allow this to go through. This could easily be the end of US Airlines as we know them in just a few short years. This administration truly saved the best for last."

Linked Article

Me: "Sounds just like when Toyota and Honda built plants in the South many years ago. No unions to deal with in right-to-work states, so they could pay employees a fraction of the union-negotiated rates up in the Rust Belt.

A..., this is what happens when you support trickle-down economics. The government betrays us, and the workers are left holding the bag."

In all likelihood, voter fraud did not happen. Having said that, recounts are not frivolous and recount results would not necessarily subvert the will of the people (which did after all support a Hillary president).

Broader point is again, that the right went to war years ago...and left needs to be much more direct and heavy handed in its language or it just is seen as wrong. Just saying that someone wants to know if there's tampering...is a public relations recipe for a big L.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Trump's new political alignment is really going to shake things up. IMO the Carrier deal subsidizes business yet also places regulations on them while going against both optimal business and national best interests. I fully agree with the WSJ that its bad:

In an editorial published Thursday evening, the Journal argued that Trump’s method to persuade the manufacturer to keep some 1,000 jobs in Indiana instead of moving them to Mexico — what it described as an “arm-twisting” — in the long run will lead to a loss of jobs.

Indiana offered Carrier $7 million in tax incentives to stay in the state, but the Journal editorial board asserted that Trump’s “real hammer” in the deal was his earlier threat to impose a tariff on the company’s imports if they moved. Overall, staying in the United States when it would operate more competitively in Mexico will only undercut the company’s profitability and its ability to manufacture other goods in the U.S. to export, the board wrote.

This is not rocket science people. Trump won the initial count in MI. What's his incentive to support delegitimization of the certified result? Would you expect Hill to support a recount in CA? Use your head.
Trump is a fool, but let's not all jump on that bandwagon.

It's not much of a hammer if he still had to give away millions in corporate welfare and they're still moving more jobs than they are keeping without penalty. Where is Trump's "they'll pay a **** tax" on that? Carrier will be just fine because of taxpayer subsidy. Their executives will get rich and we'll hope any of that trickles down because of the goodness of their hearts.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Yeah...if the tariff was such a big deal they wouldnt still be moving hundreds of jobs to Mexico anyways. He basically said "I will give you a bunch of money if you move a few less jobs to Mexico"...talk about a shrewd businessman that is like saying "I wont charge you rent if you just dont steal anything from us!"

BTW I just read up on Tom Price's (The Head of HHS) plan to replace ObamaCare...man I hope those Poor Working Class White People are ready to take it in the shorts...especially if they are lower middle class. Oh and if you are old...well we wont need government death panels because insurance companies wont be subsidized enough to cover your costs so they will just cut your coverage anyways. And of course, welcome back the crappy "no coverage" coverage that you will pay normal price for but will kill you if you get anything more than a hangnail! No more expanded Medicaid, insurance companies will no longer need to have maternity coverage and pediatric coverage and all of it will be made "affordable" due to tax incentives to the person that wont be enough to make real plans affordable in any way.

Oh and I hope you arent a business owner because he wants to cap how much of your employees insurance you pay for is tax deductible.

The Education Secretary may be the worst for poor to lower middle class people. She'll along with Trump destroy what's left of public education which seems to have to spend all their time defending themselves instead of teaching.

It won't matter to those who are harmed the most. Those on the right who took in the shorts from Reagan's tricke-down economics still idolize him.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Dan Rather continuing to be the national treasure he is:
https://www.facebook.com/theDanRather/posts/10157810937485716
The reality is we don't live in a post-truth world because if we did, almost every aspect of modern society would cease to exist - immediately. So the fact that we seem to be heading into that world in politics is not only deeply troubling, it has the potential to upend life as we know it.
A few days ago CNN commentator Scottie Nell Hughes, a Donald Trump surrogate, went on the Diane Rehm Show on NPR and in a panel discussion and said of the fact that the President-elect regularly lies "I hear half the media saying that these are lies. But on the other half, there are many people that go, 'No, it's true.' And so one thing that has been interesting this entire campaign season to watch, is that people that say facts are facts—they're not really facts. Everybody has a way—it's kind of like looking at ratings, or looking at a glass of half-full water. Everybody has a way of interpreting them to be the truth, or not truth. There's no such thing, unfortunately, anymore as facts."
If people want to live in a post-truth world, where "elite" experts are all biased and facts are up for interpretation, I suggest they go all the way.
You can go to a post-truth doctor who could say "well the elitist scientific tests say you have strep throat but I say it's cancer so let's give you some chemotherapy."
Or you can go to a post-truth electrician who might say "well those elitist electrical manuals published in New York and those government regulations out of Washington say you should ground your electricity, but that's just a bunch of red tape."
Or you can go to a post-truth auto mechanic who might say "well those elitist laws of physics say that this is how a braking system works, but let's replace your brake pads with fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies because they will smell better when you hit the brake pedal."
Now that's not to say that there aren't things we don't understand, or things we have gotten wrong. But that's the great thing about facts and data. When they disprove something you thought, you can't - or at least shouldn't - ignore it. Once again, that's how progress happens.
And if you don't like facts than I hope you don't ruin everything for those of us who do.

Much, much different era. Reagan's appeal was based in large part on 1) him following the befuddled LBJ-Nixon-Ford-Carter administrations where anything that looked somewhat competent was a refreshing change of pace, and 2) his defense buildup/seize the offensive/Cold War actions. Trump doesn't have these luxuries. He'll have his usual honeymoon with these people, but in a year from now jobs are still scarce but people's healthcare just went away, he'll either be the one answering for that or he'll leave the GOP Congress holding the bag.

Here all indications are that it is a hammer. Carrier is getting $7 million in tax incentives over ten years vs. Carrier said it would save $65 million by relocating the plant (Indy Star). The numbers don't add up. For Carrier, who knows for sure...but it looks like its the 35% tariff hammer that's making the decision.

But for the country its bad. Back door deal with tax payers money and only Trump's judgment...subsidizing big business...forcing companies to make suboptimal decisions that will make them less competitive and as with the tax payer costs, the product cost increase will get passed onto us as well. The only winner is Trump.

Trump's military budgets will be weird. He doesn't want us to be the world's policeman. More like the world's protection racket. So, the budgets will only increase, but mission scope will decrease. It will be like the USSR: bloating the military sector and bankrupting the country, but not as an aggressor state.

It's not the hammer of taxes. It's the threat that their parent company might end up losing some $50 billion of defense contracts. Probably never happen, since when has a defense contractor lost contracts because of shoddy or over-budget work, but that's the presumption. Carrier can eat a loss of a few million, as long as the billions keep coming in.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Not sure where else to throw this so it's going in here:

Why Trevor Noah's interview with Tomi Lahren should not be celebrated.

This is what “discourse” entails: not an intellectual duel about political theory, but a chance for white supremacists to enact open rhetorical violence and encourage blatant actual violence in the name of giving everybody a chance to speak. That so many were able to ignore this reality in the wake of the Noah/Lahren “debate” is shocking, if not horrifying. That so many have consistently been willing to―as they claim allyship―trade the physical and emotional safety of threatened Americans for some intellectual high ground is disgusting. Because that’s what this amounts to, when the dust begins to settle: the childish fantasy that bigotry can be talked away, the strange delusion that racism is a rational and reasoned position that might yield to the right kind of logic, the fetid lie that the illusion of civility among the racial majority is worth preserving at the expense of the security of everyone else.

And I agree with it. What did it accomplish beyond adding clicks to the Nazi Barbie's page? There are just some views you don't need to debate with when a simple "you're a racist c**t" will do.

And where the * did this woman come from?

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Yeah that's a good point, would probably have been better to just take clips of her and explain why she's wrong etc. rather than giving her airtime. Not sure he ever responded to the stats she was citing.
