POTUS: Definitely Needs Anger Management

IINM McConnell can decide on whether a rules package comes to a vote so he can sh-t can it all by himself.

McConnell could actually probably stop the Senate from even taking up impeachment. Just park it. The House might have standing to appeal to SCOTUS but if the fix is in then pffpt.

The Founders did not anticipate an entire political party shredding the constitution. They thought in terms of one rogue man or a small faction and thought there would be enough men of good will and sincere dedication to the republic to at the very least apply the law. And they thought the courts would be above widespread corruption. Finally, they could not have anticipated a broad criminal conspiracy would actually retain its voters' support, or more likely they thought if it came to that then the experiment fails and the people fail democracy, not the other way around.

250 years, untold lives and sacrifices, and what brings us down is a bunch of garden variety grifters peddling racist butt hurt.

"What a country."

But.....but.....who can resist that sweet Russian coin?

Re: POTUS: Definitely Needs Anger Management

Collins is with Mitch as long as there is still time to primary her. Once that is relieved than she'll flip. It's entirely based on the calendar at this point.

This is an easier vote to take though. Voting against a motion to dismiss (and then voting to acquit after a trial) allows her to keep her precious "moderate" label from the Beltway Media. If Itch thinks he has the votes, he'll pass a motion to dismiss. If he doesn't they'll have a trial, so I'm guessing a few people are balking at a quick dismissal - mostly likely the ones facing a tough re-election + Mittens who is going to milk this for all its worth until he ultimately votes to acquit Chump.

Why would that matter? You think any Republicans are going to cross the Turtle?

Maybe not, but perhaps a few of the not psycho ones might just decide that they actually want a legitimate process about this.

They can still vote to acquit in the end.

You think it will be easy? You want the President blaming YOU for extending the process? You want Turtle Boy on your bad side? You want to be the one of the one or two or God forbid three that crosses the line and votes with Democrats on this Witch Hunt?

I don't think so.

Re: POTUS: Definitely Needs Anger Management

From the NY Times. Add another one to the list.

Breaking News: Rick Gates, a former Trump campaign aide, was sentenced to 45 days in jail and a $20,000 fine for his part in a criminal financial scheme and for lying to U.S. federal investigators. He was a key witness in the Mueller investigation.

Why exactly are all the BEST people ending up in ****ing jail? Seriously? This is ****ing ridiculous.

Scooby, what part of this next sentence are you not understanding. If Mitch McConnell had 51 votes to dismiss the impeachment charges without a trial, he would do so. Take your time to contemplate that one.

Doesn't matter. The trial is already a sham.

Re: POTUS: Definitely Needs Anger Management

President Donald Trump on Tuesday excoriated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over her effort to have him impeached, calling it a partisan “crusade,” an “unprecedented and unconstitutional abuse of power” and a “spiteful” “election-nullification scheme.”

In a rambling six-page letter, Trump accused Pelosi of having “cheapened the importance of the very ugly word, impeachment” and said she was “declaring open war on American Democracy” by pursuing his impeachment.

“You dare to invoke the Founding Fathers in pursuit of this election-nullification scheme — yet your spiteful actions display unfettered contempt for America’s founding and your egregious conduct threatens to destroy that which our Founders pledged their very lives to build,” Trump wrote.

“It is a terrible thing you are doing, but you will have to live with it, not I!” Trump added in the blistering and brooding letter.

Trump added that he’d been “deprived of basic Constitutional Due Process” from “the beginning of this impeachment scam.”

“More due process was afforded to those accused in the Salem Witch Trials,” he wrote.

The full House is expected to vote on two articles of impeachment against Trump — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress — on Wednesday.

The letter is a doozy. I suggest reading the entire thing. It's linked at the bottom. I don't think I have ever read/seen a human being more delusional than the current President of the United States.

It has its usefulness, but that's going to require some deep thinking on your part Scoobs which I'm not 100% certain you're capable of! Senate trial gets wall to wall coverage, re-enforcing to all non-cult members the total corruption and Putin humping of the Chump administration. Republicans will most likely all vote in lockstep because, again, its a cult.

Fast forward to November. Cory Gardner and Susan Collins NEED Democratic votes to get re-elected, the same Dems who are like 99% in favor of Chump's impeachment. At the very least McSally and Tillis need Dem intensity to not match GOP intensity. A Chump acquittal makes the opposite more likely. For Dem voters, if you can't get him via a Senate conviction, the next opportunity to take him down will be 9 months later on Election Day. I'm guessing they aren't going to pass that chance up.

Yeah? And then what? The Dems have had the Senate before. Why'd they lose it? If you can answer and fix that then you'd be a hero. Otherwise all your doing is the same thing everyone has been doing since the great theft in 1980 began. Nothing.

Sure Scoobs, I'll bite.

Dems #1, 1A, and 1AA priority upon holding power, even in a 50/50 Senate, is voting rights. As time goes on, Republicans have had to get more and more extreme to restrict voting to win elections. How you end that is via federal legislation. The more people are allowed to vote the more dire the GOP's election prospects get. That allows Dems to hold at least the House in subsequent elections. All the progressive legislation that anybody wants to pass depend on one thing above all else - sustained electoral success. The fundamental bedrock of electoral success is your supporters being able and willing to register to vote and then turn out. All these other proposals (M4A, UBI, Green New Deal) are whipped cream on s hit if people aren't allowed to vote.

We lost it because the electorate is split pretty close to 50/50 between human beings and spiteful single celled organisms. We're living through an inflection point where the old world of white Christian backwards thinking is dying and the new world of multi-racial, multi-cultural forward thinking is being born. We've been going back and forth between these visions for fifty years. The right has all the advantages: a co-opted political system that over represents conservative elements and a system of legalized bribery as embarrassing as the English Parliament before 1832.

The transition could take a century. So far we've managed it without widespread political violence which is terrific. So we have to keep calm and carry on: organize, educate, be firm but non-violent. Wherever we can we stand up to the depredations of the Plutes and their low brow shock troops. Inexorably, demography forces the right out into the open more and more as an apartheid regime.

We do what we can, here, today. We stay hopeful and teach our children to strive for a better world. We heckle and hassle the enemy, erode them, box them in, and above all laugh at their emptiness. This is how love eventually triumphs over hatred.

We are winning, scoob. We already have a context in which the right has to cheat to win. So we take them to court on cheating while fighting each election to take power and then destroy the whole apparatus of oppression they've created to hold on to power. We are the ocean washing away their cheap, little artificial islands.

They've got the rich but we've got time. Those f-ckers are doomed. We just have to shepherd the species through this transition and don't let the hateful losers blow everything up as a last dying gesture before their oblivion.

Can we get it done before the planet melts? I see a problem here.

As Louis C.K. said, the planet will be fine. We are in trouble.

Comfortable carrying capacity of the Earth is perhaps 500M humans. Looks like she's a let us finish. Two cheers for homeostatic systems.

Over the course of 3 years he has to spend 45 days in jail. He can serve them one day per month for most of it, if he wanted, could chunk them out into a few long-weekend trips, or serve it all at once.

"Gates will also pay a $20,000 fine and fulfill 300 hours of community service. He will be allowed to serve his jail sentence on weekends or intermittently during his three years of probation."

Maria Butina, convicted in U.S. of being Russian agent, gets job as state TV host

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Russian woman jailed in the United States for working as a foreign agent and deported to Moscow has been hired by Russia’s state-funded RT television as a host for an online show that mocks the opposition, the station said on Tuesday.

Of Course.

That was George Carlin not Louis C.K.
