I'm well aware of all of this stuff that is happening. But again, y'all seem to forget that many, MANY people aren't actively engaged in intellectual discussions on these matters on a daily/weekly basis. And there are many places that simply want to provide a "simple" answer for these people. That is what we (educated, well read, people) are up against. We still can't figure out how to send a "simple" answer to these folks.
That is what I'm getting at. Sure, we can post individual stats that show net gains between 2020 and now. But that doesn't overcome what everyday people see & feel on a daily basis.
And look, most of the people here have dual incomes, a home, multiple vehicles, etc. Y'all aren't millionaires, but if you need to do a $1500 emergency repair on your car or have an injury, you don't need to do a deep dive into your financial books to figure out the best way to pay that off. That's the main point here. The optics are definitely different based on your perspective here.
I think all of us here understand that no matter now "good" things may be going there are always going to be people who fall behind and struggle mightily from a financial standpoint. But so much of what people believe even about their own finances is colored by misconception, misperception, and just downright being wrong on the facts.
The price of gas is a good one to look at. If the price of a gallon goes up $0.50 people shriek and cry and claim the world is ending. But for the average car most people drive and the number of miles driven each month, a $0.50 bump amounts to perhaps an additional $20 spent on fuel per month. But to hear many people talk, a $0.50 bump will lead to evictions, an inability to buy food, and homelessness sometimes in the next 60 days.
Not to mention, the people who often complain the loudest and the longest about the economy then go out and vote against their own economic interests because of the gays, the guns, or the gods. The truth is, if people voted in their economic interests all of the time based on the policies of the people they can choose to vote for, they'd vote for republicans about 5% of the time. Last time I checked, voting was more or less a 50-50 proposition in this country over a very long period.
