POTUS 45.61: All Are Welcome to Watch This Circus

Re: POTUS 45.61: All Are Welcome to Watch This Circus

I wouldn't put 1980 in there. Sure, in hindsight, but at the time, I don't think anyone could have imagined the magnitude of the consequences that election would have.

I recall the debate of the time. Plenty of us -- even many Republicans - understood the magnitude and said so, vocally. You don't betray the principles of the country without somebody get their panties in a twist about it; that's the pesky thing about representative democracy.

But it underlines how vital getting these things right, is. Even the 1980 tragedy, which was still far less significant than the 1800 or 1860 (or 1932) triumphs, has been a nightmare for this country for a half century and has led directly to this moment of crisis. I'm sure there were chances in the 30-year lead up to the Civil War to mitigate the damage but the country was too distracted or lazy. The same has been true beginning with Reagan and now here we are. You cannot appease terrorists. Munich begets all that comes after.

There seems to be a very rough timetable of 50 year increments:

1800 + 60 years
1860 + 72
1932 + 48
1980 + 40
2020

If we get this right and then truly uproot and burn out the filth then maybe we'll be safe again until 2070 or so. I'd like that. My entire adult life has been lived during a period of American decline. I'd like to see us become a nation to be proud of again.

Actually more than that. 40% of the country thinks trump is innocent and everything negative about him is part of a deep-state witchhunt. But even a good number of democrats don't support impeachment. Recent polls are startling to me. At best this whole process won't have a measurable impact on what happens next November. At worst, combined with every illegal act we know the president and the republican machine will attempt, this could blow up in our faces.

Do you have a source for this statement? Polling has bumped around within the margin of error but generally a small majority in some polls and a plurality in others shows the public in general in favor of impeachment. Dems are overwhelmingly in favor from anything I've seen.

But don't be a Scooby. Educated voters are ditching the GOP in droves, which is why 2020 will have Dem governors in Kentucky and Louisiana along with a Dem House of Representatives. They're ditching because of the utter lunacy of the right, which is being made clear with the impeachment hearings.

Nobody thinks Dump, his gang, or his voters can be shamed. They have no shame.

per 538 support for impeachment is dropping: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/impeachment-polls/?ex_cid=rrpromo

I see one poll (Emerson) in what you linked that has impeachment as a net negative (-2) while the others have it positive.

Dems need to embrace impeachment and ride it all the way through to election day. Prez is a criminal. We have the evidence. People with a functioning brain seem to agree. Its not our job to convince Nazi's otherwise. Its our job to kick their leaders out of office.

Except that same polling shows 80% of Dems support it (scroll down) which is where the number has been roughly since Impeachment began. (was in the 70s before that) So ChickenLittleNotreDame was wrong. Hell overall it has fallen roughly 4% so it isnt like it is tanking it still ranks as a net positive on 538. Independents have gone down but that is it.

Chicken Little wants us to believe that the best thing that will come out of this is it has no effect on the coming election. Do you believe that?

support falling for independents is a pretty big ****ing deal considering all the stuff that's come out in the past two weeks. I'd like to see some post-Sondland and Hill testimony polls

Agreed, it's too early to be polling. Gotta check in after everyone's called each other libtard and knuckledragger around the Thanksgiving table. ;)

Not a lot of people know Trump saved thousands of lives in Hong Kong. Sir, thank you!

No fights for me at Thanksgiving. We're going to my Dad's for Thanksgiving and no one there will be a Trumper. My wife's immediate family aren't Trumpers either, but they are "independents" and sometimes fall for some dumb republican talking points (like "concerns" over Hillary's email, health, and Benghazi). They usually end up throwing their vote away on 3rd party candidates in the Presidential election.

Lucky you. We have a reservation at a restaurant (mom's choice), and my Trumper uncle and his even Trumpier wife are coming.

I wish my Bernie uncle was coming so they could go at it while the rest of us enjoy ourselves. :D

I never talk politics at the holidays. The closest I come is if some moron starts spewing some Hate Radio nonsense I pointedly ignore them.

If you fight with a 5-year old you've already lost. If they believe in this stuff you can't fix them.

It was one poll. Settle down already. ;)
