Dude, the issue isn't actually illegal immigration, it the total lack of legal immigration. Every person coming to the border would much rather come to this country to get some relief totally legally.
But we've shut the southern border.
Nobody is asking for permission to break the law, they all want to be legal. To have the same opportunity that all of our families have had at one point.
But we've shut the southern border.
Bear in mind, we CHOSE to to let companies seek cheap labor from COMMUNIST countries like China and Vietnam when there was a very good source of labor in all of the Americas. This after we let companies basically take over countries (and US territories) for cheap labor (see the Banana Republic- not the store). So all of this economic issues in Central and South America could have easily been taken care of if we just chose to get our own hemisphere to work. But no, we go in, take advantage of them, one sniff of labor problems, we put in dictatorships....
And now we are left with people trying to come here just like our ancestors did, and we don't let them.
Let them seek asylum and come and work. (and pay taxes).

That's why I mentioned the conversation I had with two immigrants. The legal immigration process needs to be sped up/streamlined. Basically do a background check like you would when interviewing someone for a job, take a pee test, good to go.
