POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

There were plenty of good jokes, that got a good reaction from the crowd, some groaners, some they didn't care for because it poked fun at the news media, pretty much a run of the mill set for any comedian. But I guess the whole "mean to SHS appearance" angle isn't working and the water-carriers have had to switch to "wasn't THAT funny".

Yup! Dead enders in the media quickly realized there's very little sympathy for either themselves or Sanders so they pulled a quick change. Pathetic, self serving yet not too surprising - wait, that pretty much sums up the national media!

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

I know this will come as a surprise to you, but once again, wrong. The 2011 WHCD says hello.

I specifically stated "POTUS45" because I knew Citizen Trump was there and belittled for thinking about the Presidency during the 2011 event.

The Seth Meyers "running as an R ... running as a joke" line isn't quite as funny anymore. Sometimes I wonder if that night set where we are today in motion: people told Don what he couldn't do. So he did what he does: prove them wrong. (Ask the Korean peninsula leadership.)

The Justice Department quietly removed the section headed "need for a free press" from its guidelines

But someone got their fee-fees hurt at the WHCD, which is clearly more important.

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

(We have no data point on POTUS45.)
Well, we do, but he wasn't president in 2011. That was the first and last time Trump attended, where he soaked in the warm glow he received from all the media for being in attendance. He did not appreciate being the focus of Obama for approximately five minutes of Obama's set, nor did he approve of Seth Meyers riffing on him throughout his set either. Afterward, Trump clutched his pearls, pursed his lips, and bemoaned being a target that evening.

Each comedian invited to the WHCD has always struck a nerve. Every table is always laughing until they're caught in the direction of fire. Every. Fu**ing. Year. How many times do you see the Fox News table laughing until a Rupert Murdoch joke comes up. Or CNN until a "Lost another airplane / Wolf Blitzer Situation Room" joke. Then they suddenly jam sticks up their a**es and poutrage. Every table does it.

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

(Ask the Korean peninsula leadership.)
Lets use the "Trump Question*" on this situation: What benefit does North Korea get out of becoming friendly with South Korea, North America, et. al? What personal gain will Kim Jong-un get from having sanctions lifted so he can acquire what he needs to continue to advance his nuclear program?

* Trump Question: What personal benefit will Donal Trump get from enacting/repealing this benign item.

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

When Mr. Obama and Mr. Bush (43) attended, they were harshly scalded, and yet they laughed uproariously. (We have no data point on POTUS45.)

Are you claiming the issue is not the comic but the crowd?
I disagree: she really didn't have a single memorable bust-a-gut laugh line; however, I can see your argument.

Whether she is funny or not is immaterial to the whole argument. Funny is in the eye of the beholder...they arent mad she wasnt funny they are mad they got called out on their BS so they made up controversy.

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

Where is all the poutrage over the fat jokes made about Chris Christie? Shouldnt NYTs be all over that?

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

At least the NY Times published an opinion that was accurate.

Comedy has no rules, per se. But in my 15 years of writing and performing, I’ve come up with a few guidelines that I find helpful:

1. Be funny.

2. Tell the truth.

3. Make people in power uncomfortable.

Yet in return for her excellence, Ms. Wolf was criticized not just by partisan defenders of the president, but by members of the press, too. Journalists called Ms. Wolf’s set “offensive,” “deplorable” and “a debacle.” Margaret Talev, the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, who booked the comedian to perform, released a statement on Sunday night that said “unfortunately, the entertainer’s monologue was not in the spirit” of the group’s mission.

There is no president of the Comedians’ Association, and though Ms. Wolf and I know each other professionally, I’m not her spokesman. But at risk of speaking out of turn, I’d like to offer this official response from America’s comics: If you don’t want comedy, don’t hire us.

So, which is it? Does the White House press corps want to use the platform to let the unvarnished truth be spoken to those in power? Or would they rather prioritize the preservation of politeness and a chummy relationship with the administration we rely on them to cover? If it’s the former, great! That’s what we do.

If it’s the latter, please, leave America’s comedians off the invite list. Better yet, cancel the whole charade and head out to your local comedy club. You’ll find us there, doing what we’re paid to: telling jokes and telling the truth.

The piece is a "mike drop" if I ever read one.

Re: POTUS 45.32: QAnon Will Help Show the Truth

I wish it ran in the Times and the Post.

On the one hand, I agree with everything he says. On the other, he writes like a 13 year old on a message board who has had 12 Red Bulls and just finished a marathon session on World of Warcraft. Deadspin is like Buzzfeed after a Sophomore English Course...

At least it wasnt Jezebel...right now they must be spinning in circles trying to figure out how to cover this. A woman ripping a woman...maybe Wolf had a male writer they can shameblame into obscurity....
