Re: POTUS 45.30: "Stormy Weather...It Keeps on Rainin' all the Time..."

I've not blocked joe or drew, but it's interesting to read their excuses to hate other groups. I'd feel sorry for how petty their lives must be to be so hateful, but I'm not. They are welcome to be as miserable as they want to be.

Drew? I don't think Drew hates anybody he's just a gun humper. I actually get the impression that Drew might be somewhat salvagable on other topics. He's a lot like 5mn -- if you pry them away from their particular deity for five minutes there is some evidence of higher level functioning.

joe's hate clearly comes from his upbringing reinforced by the Chestertonian posturing they teach you in religious instruction to justify your bigotry in pseudo-scriptural language. While that's awful and it shouldn't be given a pass, it's also not the same thing as wanting to establish full blown Jesusharia the way the Thumpers do. I'll bet joe is actually a pretty ethical guy if you get him away from theory and stick a real flesh and blood person in front of him. His hate is obviously not in the bone, it's a costume his parents or somebody else forced him to wear before he was old enough to know better and now it's stuck to him.

There are haters here, but those three aren't among them. Much as with Bob Gray, I think people mistake hateful speech with hateful being. A lot of hateful speech is just that the tape recorder is always on as a child and people pick up a lot of really stupid stuff that they then blat about when they're older. It's gross and it has virulent political and social consequences, but it's different than honest, sincere, groove is in the heart hatefulness.

Whoa there alfa boy!!!! I disagree with a stance, viewpoint, or the like. That is not hate.

I think marriage should be between a man and a woman. That doesn't mean I hate homosexuals.

I believe that life begins in the womb. I have a strong dislike for abortionists, but not the (ex)mother.

I believe that the policies of the current Democrat party are wrong. I don't hate the Democrats on this board. I feel sorry for those who throw a nutty when their opinions are challenged.

I don't love the GOP. I think the party is schizophrenic in that they say X when they're running for power and do a 180 when the achieve it. It tasks me.

I hate the Yankees, but I respected Mickey, Whitey, Yogi, Mo, and Jeter. Boggs and Clemens are nothing to me.

I lived for a time in Joplin Missouri, a short drive from Commerce, Ok, Mickey's home town. Just a dusty little spot on the road in former mining country. People idolized Mickey in the area--named the lounge in the Holiday Inn The Mickey Mantle Lounge, something they would not do now and probably changed when it became clear he was basically drinking himself to death.

Back to your regularly scheduled programing.

Fine ironic name, though. Put it next to the Richard Pryor firehouse.

Maybe hate is going over board.

But one must ask themselves what is the root reason they want to deny rights to others that they very much enjoy.

When God says "Love thy neighbor as thyself" I don't see a test of what religion is being asked, what's the color of their skin, what sex they are attracted to, what region of the world are they from, if they had sinned in the past or the future, and degradation of a person that they are beneath you, has a question whether I should serve that person or not because I disagree with them on any of those points.

All of that, and more, are what evangelicals do, and people like joe put many of those tests to whoever they please.

In other words, they treat others very much unequally. Why is that? Where in the new testament does it justify treating others unequally?

What reference is used to justify sending people back to their country when they are clearly going to be in personal harm if you send them back? What reference does it say that same sex love is so evil that we should not just leave that sin up to God? etc.

People love to wrap themselves in the Bible to pretend they are so pious. And then apply that to our government. Total BS, as far as I'm concerned. They are being manipulated by someone who is making them worry about some single hot button item for gain.

How else can you justify evangelicals still backing dump? The guy is morally 100% the opposite of what they claim to be, but he's still their lord and savior. Which is ironic, given that the same people were claiming that President Obama was being worshiped.

We already know why. The Ends justify the Means. Trump has gotten stuff done for them. No one else has because frankly what they want done is ****ing stupid but Trump doesn't care he does it anyway.

Because ideologies make good people believe terrible things. The scary thing that we've never really come to grips with is there were probably a lot of good people who became Nazis, and not just as a way of laying low. A lot of good people kept excusing what Stalin did, too, so it's not limited to the right.

I propose that whether or not you fall for a hateful ideology may have nothing to do with what kind of a person you are. Hanah Arendt thought differently: she thought there were risk factors for totalitarianism, and that's become the conventional wisdom. But what if that's not true? What if it's like a plague and it can hit anybody? And, remember, the first thing the ideology does is reach into your head and flip the self-criticism mechanism off switch, so the infected never know.

Now that's a horror premise. It removes all control not just at the societal level but for self-protection.

He survived "grab em by the p-ssy" and that was a direct videotape. The Thumpers' powers of self-delusion are truly astounding. But I think they really only have the Slick Willie comeback, and it's hollow. They would have been better served to just Climate Denial all the way. As Cheney showed us, the Big Lie is a profound thought-stopper with these folks. Don't let the doubt seep in at all or you'll get water damage.

I really do not know what joe and Sic and Drew and Fish are going to do if and when Dumpy fires Mueller and then the whole Ferris Wheel of Death starts turning. I guess it will be like Nixon: "everybody does it he just got caught." The only alternative is to admit they not only got played, but they willingly wanted to be played -- they begged for it; they traded this nation's and their children's future for it. It's Reagan Redux, only this time with hookers.

All I know is that I never again want to hear any politician running on a "family values" platform. After Dump, that should be dead in the water.

One one hand, as Richard Rodgers so eloquently put it, you've got to be carefully taught.

At the same time, you also have to accept that teaching.

Either way, others are put down relative to you. And nowhere in the testament that I know of, is that justified.

I don't really see how one can be "good" and JUSTIFY horrific things. Does not compute.

I was on a weird tangent and I was looking to see if YouTube had a clip of that crappy Magic Johnson talk show from the 90s (don't ask why, just popped into my head). I found one, but note who the third guest is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAtmgxwBUQg. LOL

I don't think you're getting it. The Ends justify the Means. And what that means is Character no longer matters to them. The only thing that matters is results. They tried the character thing and it didn't work.

Trump: "I have stated my concerns with Amazon long before the Election. Unlike others, they pay little or no taxes to state & local governments, use our Postal System as their Delivery Boy (causing tremendous loss to the U.S.), and are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!"

That's what the post office does. It delivers things.

"That dammed airline industry. All they do is fly planes!"

As for taxes, talk to your friends in Congress.

.

yeah. brick and mortar strip mall retailers that Donnie's real estate developer buddies depend on for income. Just the same way those strip malls drove the mom and pop stores out of business.

Nobody was crying for them except the mom and pop stores, and certainly nothing was done to stop it by Donnie and his real estate developer buddies.

How much you suppose Amazon pays the PO yearly in shipping fees?

This is where the USPS Post Master General pipes in and says, "With all due respect, Mr. President, you're talking out of your arse. Again. It's because of Amazon that we're not in even worse shape than we are now. Please don't take them away from us. Now go back to your whoring ways, please."

I know, right?? The USPS does not deliver anything for free. I have Amazon Prime to get free shipping, for which I pay a yearly fee. I'm thinking the USPS gets some decent coin from Amazon. Does Trump not get that?

Suckers

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is attempting to scale back federal efforts to enforce fair housing laws, freezing enforcement actions against local governments and businesses, including Facebook, while sidelining officials who have aggressively pursued civil rights cases.

The policy shift, detailed in interviews with 20 current and former Department of Housing and Urban Development officials and in internal agency emails, is meant to roll back the Obama administration’s attempts to reverse decades of racial, ethnic and income segregation in federally subsidized housing and development projects. The move coincides with the decision this month by Ben Carson, the secretary of housing and urban development, to strike the words “inclusive” and “free from discrimination” from HUD’s mission statement.

And so does UPS and so does FedEx, along with the thousands of people those companies employ.
