Re: POTUS 45.30: "Stormy Weather...It Keeps on Rainin' all the Time..."
On a note that helps point out the total pieces of crap that are running this country....
Two days ago marked 6 months since Puerto Rico was devastated by hurricane Maria. STILL there are places that have no power and decent water, but it has gotten a lot better. But the recovery is painfully slow.
Part of the reason for that is lack of money. And you say- "Congress passed emergency loan money back in October" which should have helped.
Sure. Had not this executive branch been such horrible people.
Just yesterday, they FINALLY came to an agreement on terms of that loan. The two sticking points were how much cash did Puerto Rico have to go under before getting the loans. So all they had to leverage extra work was what was on hand, instead of being able to leverage future money that was certainly coming. This is an island going through bankruptcy- how are they supposed to have a lot of cash and decent credit to rebuild?
The second sticking point is really bad- the treasury secretary wanted to make sure the loans would be paid back. Which may sound logical, but ALL other disaster relief loans were forgiven- which is to say the relief that various parts of the country got this year- they would not be required to pay back the loans. Why does an area that is fiscally in a really bad shape (the recession was a depression in Puerto Rico, no doubt about that) and had virtually no means to pay back a loan (remember bankruptcy?) be held to a standard that NO other place in the country, including ones who COULD pay it back, be held to????
It seems obvious to me why Puerto Rico is being held to a totally different and impossible standard relative to the rest of our citizenship with regard to disaster relief.
This group of people running the country are just evil.
The easy "reply" to this crap- there are well more than enough Puerto Ricans who have moved to the mainland to really change the election in both Florida and Texas in 2018. PLUS it's become clear that Puerto Rico has two choices anymore- go independent or become a state. And there's little support to become independent. Which will change the the voting balance by a pretty significant amount. Puerto Rico has more US citizens living there than many states (right now, out of 52- including DC, they would be 30th). So the odds of this pathetic treatment of our fellow citizens by these criminals may come back to bite them very badly is pretty decent.
