Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

You do understand that plenty of young women had to have voted for Trump as well? Not every one is some 80 year old who thinks women are lesser than men. Pro Life women come in all ages and they arent voting Dem no matter what.

Agreed - every generation has single-issue voters. You can't fix that.

If I understand what New Math was supposed to be about, it was that set theory underlies all of math rather than numbers. Math is the study of patterns, not just suped up arithmetic. As it stands, kids who go into advances math must eventually unlearn all the assumptions they were taught young, and the idea was why not teach math from the beginning as what it actually is?

It didn't work because set theory is inherently about abstraction and the only kids who could handle that were the ones smart enough to go on to advanced math, so in effect teachers were starting from the assumption that every kid was smart, with the result that the dumb and even average kids got lost and didn't pick up basic skills. (This may actually explain why current voters appear to be innumerate.)

Give them an exam at 6 and track them -- top to post-graduate professions, middle to business, bottom to consumers. Allow for readjustments as you go along with kids either moving up or down a tier based on initiative and talent. Recognize that what works for the smart is a wall for the dumb and what works for the dumb is asphyxiation for the smart.

This is an excellent post. I am going to use it if you don't mind.

Can they code, or can they run apps. I can code, and I have pretty good (as in surprised them) hand strength according to the trainers at the gym (farm kid).

Otherwise, I may agree with you save for ...

Don't get me wrong, I think health is important, if only to prevent being stuffed into lockers by Republican jocks, but the idea of the CEO "power grip" as a discriminator is almost a parody of the brawn over brain types.

I think a lot of the little no neck monsters actually can code; they are being raised with a much greater appreciation of concepts like methods, properties, inheritance, class, and instantiation. Putting those things together as a workable syntax and structure is really analogous to spelling and grammar, and the little bastids seem to be launched right into a natural affinity for doing so.

Obviously, there will be sorting based on depth and creativity of thought, but that's the ground rules of human dispersion about the mean of intelligence.

So, yes, I think Kids Today will in fact grow up with much more facility for a coding culture. The manual labor culture that conservatives always identify as some sort of foundation of virtue is mostly OBE. We've been headed this way ever since the first tools and machines.

Can we add the Stein and Johnson voters as well...bunch of numbnutzes.

I'm OK with that. I think Trump in particular and the GOP in general were so obviously an existential threat that everybody needed to rally around the sole candidate who could block them. No partial credit for voting for conscience this time.

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

You forgot one other key item: She will have to be, as Mr. Obama, a liberal-progressive that the media can fawn over.

The butthurt is strong with this one...

Its not like the media ignored the candidate your side put up.

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

I think the right conservative woman could win. If you found someone who is maybe Palin's age, had the speaking ability of Obama, and maybe the charisma and policy positions of Reagan, I think she could get elected. Not sure who exactly that might be right now, though. :)

Oh good the policies of Reagan...I am sure that will go so well for the country. Good ole conservative values of spending through the roof and cutting taxes to pay for it!

It worked in Kansas and Wisconsin. It should work for the country.

What is the practical consequence if they shutter the Dept of Ed? It might not be the worst thing in the world to free education from the tender mercies of the boobocracy, especially in a country where a non-trivial number of people think the Earth is 6000 years old.

Kill the federal level and you just have another discriminator for the free states over the slave states to attract the smart, tolerant, etc. And it's another way to cut down on redistribution of wealth from the productive blue states to the deadbeat red states.

Scooby said it best...we need more educated people not less. You can revamp the Dept of Ed you dont have to destroy it. Without regulation nothing will stop the false facts from permeating into our textbooks and classes. No...just no!

We need all of America to be at a certain level not just the parts that support us.

And see, I'm going to disagree with this. It's time to cut the rope and let them sink to the bottom of the ocean. I'm tired of carrying them and we don't need them to get elected. Biggest mistake Hillary ever made.

Yeah, just try to remember there are plenty of us liberals in these states that would really like our kids to have a decent education.

With regards to a woman being president and what side of the table she would be from, I remember back when Robert Dole was running and reading about his wife Elizabeth, who I think was the head of the Red Cross at the time, and how good of a candidate she would have been.

Scooby we cant do that. I am all for letting the Red States burn with their decisions but you are punishing kids that had zero to do with it and you are forcing them to be stupid. I am sorry but that is a bridge too far for me and as a parent it should be for you as well.

If you **** half the country to stupidity you will drag us all down guaranteed. If they choose to be stupid that is their problem but students cant choose in this manner and the way to win this war is through education.

Exactly. And the comeback will be "they can move" well that isnt always easy and it isnt always possible.

You screw over the Red States you are not only never going to have a chance to win them back but you will **** off the liberals that live there. Classic Dem move though divide your own base on principles!

Working in a factory as a kid did me a lot of good and certainly makes me appreciate the job I have now. I think everyone should have to work a bad job or two when they're young.

I was involved with the Red Cross at that time, and that included some national convention meetings. I think there are a sizable number of people who were in that organization at the time who will disagree with you. Some of her actions were not particularly popular.

All I learned from manual labor jobs was to work my butt off for 4 years so I could take it easy for 40 years.

It's no sin to be poor, but it's no great honor either.
