POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

Trump placed a 3AM call to his national security advisor to ask if a strong dollar or a weak dollar was good for the US economy.

That's a valid question for the man as the purchasing power of the dollar could lead to instability in a number of foreign nations that use the USD as their operating currency. Also, the relative strength of the USD vs. foreign currencies impacts how we conduct international trade and our nation's perceived strength at that time. Whether or not the man could answer him then and there is another question because that sort of person would probably want to talk to someone who has specific economic knowledge of that nature for the those nations in question. Certainly, the timing of the question is a problem as it further demonstrates a lack of impulse control by Hair Furor.

Kids are going to do how they do regardless of whatever test Uncle Sam gives them.

I guess I disagree. I think you really do need to watch the Al Franken video I posted earlier with regards to proficiency vs. growth. Proficiency is a bad goal to teach towards. Growth and proficiency should be the measures with emphasis on growth. We need to have baseline standards, which is proficiency. But growth is where the teachers should be "graded" or rewarded.

A 3AM phone call to his national security advisor? For that question?

It's a valid question to ask if you're in a meeting with your financial advisors and your foreign policy staff, if that's what he was asking. He was not. He was asking how it would impact the US economy. The man doesn't even know the word nuance. You are implying he asked a nuanced question. He was not.

First, I didn't read the link. Making a natural assumption that if you're going to ask your National Security Advisor that question, there are certain parameters to your thought process.

And if you read the last sentence of my post... "the timing of the question is a problem as it further demonstrates a lack of impulse control by Hair Furor."

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

When can a weaker dollar be good for the United States? If you can't answer that, then you're out of your element, Donny.

In regards to national security? Almost never, which is why the national security advisor had no freaking clue.

Almost never is not the same as never. It's not even close, actually.

Yeah, I missed the last line. But I'll ask you, why are you giving him the benefit of the doubt here? What has he done to earn that from you?

If that's the first call he makes on an economics question, it raises questions for me around him manipulating our currency.

You know how to improve kids growth scores? Make sure they do worse on the baseline exam. I'm sorry to say but I think that would be the solution most schools would employ. I definitely agree with you in theory though. I might be missing the boat on the one but I don't ever see testing making much of a difference.

His tweets and EOs have focused so much on the pretense of national security that it just seemed like he was stuck in that mode of thinking. So when you go to your Security Advisor about a question of weakening the dollar, it made me think of economic warfare - specifically with China in terms of currency valuation, weakening a nation by robbing them of economic production. If you think a hostile nation is on the verge of slipping into a recession, and you think your nation could handle the effects of lowering the PP of the USD for US consumers, then it could be seen as a smart move. This is especially true of a nation like China, which has restrictions on how much they'll let the Yuan float against other currencies, and much of its economic prowess is rumored to be well, a lot of rumors put forth by their government to create the illusion of strength.

That's still not a question for the national security advisor, apologist.

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

A nation with a bad economy has a harder time raising a strong military.

And I thought sticking up for poor Jason Lewis' inability to even get a single slave was a stupid hill for you to die on.

Just so we're clear:

In Column A we've got you, who thinks Trump, a guy who has shown he has zero clue about Chinese monetary policy(Ever wonder what happened to labeling China as a currency manipulator? Real economists laughed at that.), asking an extremely basic economic question to someone in an unrelated field, and you, apologist that you are, think it's part of some grand Machiavellian masterpiece.

In Column B, we've got Michael Flynn, who thought the question was so stupid he laughed about to multiple people, and those people, who thought it was so funny that they leaked it to the press.

There's no denying the violence is a problem, or at least a moral hazard that surrenders credibility. This response is real: https://www.facebook.com/myiannopoulos/videos/840123842792179/ Nobody wants to be told that their duty is to help some stranger in San Francisco pay for a sex change operation (or any other "most important issue of the day") when their own life has been so devalued.
This advice (which you may have seen and already agree with) is infinitely more valuable than "PUNCH A NAZI!!!1!":
1. Don't use his name; EVER (45 will do)
2. Remember this is a regime and he's not acting alone;
3. Do not argue with those who support him--it doesn't work;
4. Focus on his policies, not his orange-ness and mental state;
5. Keep your message positive; they want the country to be angry and fearful because this is the soil from which their darkest policies will grow;
6. No more helpless/hopeless talk;
7. Support artists and the arts;
8. Be careful not to spread fake news. Check it;
9. Take care of yourselves; and
10. Resist!

Isn't the answer to the strong/weak dollar question: What's your economic policy going to be? (You manipulate the value of the dollar as a means to that end.)

PS - Who here hasn't received a work-related phone call (boss, customer) or email between midnight and 0500 hours? I average about two per calendar quarter.
