The first is inflammatory to those who may or may not have a learning disability, sure ;)

Yes we know you're still butt hurt about that, never forget! :D

Not making a ton of racist assumptions about Mike Brown's motives meant I was being biased.

Lol.

Never change Trixie.

Not butt hurt - just saying I know you and your obvious bias.

Re: POTUS 45.18 - Who Run Derpertown? McMasterBlaster Run Derpertown.

"Fry like bacon" is awful.

Acting like a majority of BLM says stuff like that is ignorant.
Personally I don't think this is the best tactic or choice of words. Even if you take my interpretation, which is entirely reasonable, you're still implying all cops are pigs. That part is definitely bad and not gonna get the good cops on your side.

I didn't say they did.

I'm only speaking to Trixie being okay with it and not seeing that it could be inflammatory to certain ears.

I apologize for jumping to conclusions. I was reacting to prior statements by others and I lumped you in unfairly.

BLM and antifa are following similar arcs. You start with a horrible tragedy. A movement arises to bring public attention to a broad problem which particular tragedies spring from (police racial profiling; the rise of neo-fascism). A very small fringe of the group says/does inflammatory/violent things. The rightwing media deliberately portrays this fringe as the essence of the group and their viewers and readers now angrily oppose a strawman representation of the broader and highly laudable group. This in turn emboldens the bad actors who created the original problem, which then bolsters the position of the bad reacting actors, which leads to more conflicts, which reinforces the narrative... a vicious cycle.

That's how good groups are discredited and destroyed. In the past that's been an effective strategy by the government when it wants to attack certain groups (unions, anti-war, civil rights, Occupy) but in these recent cases I don't think there's any organized conspiracy. I'm sure there are particular agents provocateur who think they're playing 3D chess, but I suspect those are lone wolves or at most instigated by turd gobblers like Brietbart or Project Veritas.

Were any US citizens illegally detained? I still haven't gotten a clear answer on that. I support all US citizens' rights.

Umm, yeah. Do a little research.

But then again, you don't care about facts, you said so yourself.

That happens a lot in this thread.

This can lean towards being a liberal echo chamber.

And that coming from a liberal.

Dr. Mrs works with immigration lawyers for DHS.

The short answer is "yes." The long answer is "for a while the incidents were fairly rare but they have accelerated and gotten far more extreme. Also, previously the events were typically a result of either pure misunderstanding or specific rogue ICE and CBP agents with reactionary/racist personal views, but in the past year a pattern of official misconduct has developed."

The bottom line is it's bad, it's getting worse, and everyone should be worried because we're seeing something happening that is not rule of law but rather rule of ideological triggers. It's scary as sh-t.

That's very disappointing to read. There should be serious repercussions for mistreating a US citizen. I'm not saying illegals should be mistreated or it's even acceptable, but it's more of a gray area as far as detaining them.

To expand on your earlier post, it should be unsettling to people the police/policing is turning into a left-right issue. I can't see where any good will come of that.

It's happened before, in the 1890s and the 1960s, when the police were extremely to the right of the gen pop and they were used as ideological shock troops to stifle dissent. It happens locally everyday in a thousand little incidents, and then every month or so there is a larger incident. In this the cops are typically just as much the victims as the poor they are sent to hassle. This is where class war actually happens in America, which is better than the military, but certainly still highly oppressive.

One problem now is that the country is starting to divide politically along economic lines: the super rich and the white poor vs everybody else. Since the police have traditionally been drawn disproportionately from the white poor, they are starting to also diverge politically and turn into a politically reactionary element of society. This is... suboptimal. We need a large influx of minority LEO to keep it from turning into the armed branch of Fox News.

So, hear all the time from Republicans that giving tax cuts spurs business. Well, based on a little fact from an article today I call BS. BS BS BS BS BS.

Many economists believe it is not that simple. They argue that large corporate tax cuts would do relatively little — particularly in the near term — to boost wages or create jobs. Instead, they would boost corporate profits and benefit the wealthiest Americans who own the most corporate stock. There is little evidence that large tax cuts will prompt American corporations to invest more; they are already sitting on nearly $2 trillion in cash.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/30/...souri-tax-plan.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur

People are suffering and they are SITTING. SITTING on over 2 trillion dollars in cash. Money that is DOING NOTHING for the economy.

Article talks about Trump and his "Cut taxes speech" in Missouri last night. Congress should just SAY NO.

The difference today is the police are a lot more connected and much more heavily armed. Apparently some forces even have explosives(based on what happened in Dallas.) It seems like they are always anxious to turn the most benign situations into some sort of major crisis.

I'm not sure how I feel about these cartoons. On one hand, great points. On the other, *cringe*...

ETA: I can't figure out how to embed tweets directly from twitter apparently...

The drowning neo-Nazi one is totally off key. The other one is funny, and (in some cases) accurate.

Yeah I really don't get the first one, like I said before the majority of Houston didn't vote for Trump. The 2nd is great.

Re: POTUS 45.18 - Who Run Derpertown? McMasterBlaster Run Derpertown.

Just saw it again on Facebook. Fox News has successfully labeled all violent protests to the left through BLM and Antifa. They don't even mention the other groups anymore. It's amazing how they still drive the narrative.

Re: POTUS 45.18 - Who Run Derpertown? McMasterBlaster Run Derpertown.

Doesn't Charlie Hebdo do that with a lot of events? I remember they did the Italian earthquake victims as different pasta dishes.

Re: POTUS 45.18 - Who Run Derpertown? McMasterBlaster Run Derpertown.

Calling the other side of a protest various slurs isn't harassment? Also gonna disagree that it should be protected.

Have you ever taken a course on law specifically Constitutional Law? Slurs are protected speech. And they should be if you start policing speech in that regard we all know what comes next. If they act in any way that is a problem but otherwise...

Put it this way...if I say you are a ****** is that harassment? I used a slur AND I disparaged you. If so why? If not why? What if my friend who is Black calls me his "N word"? Who is qualified to decide what is and what is not a slur?

Re: POTUS 45.18 - Who Run Derpertown? McMasterBlaster Run Derpertown.

It's not a binary argument in the way you are trying to frame it. The correct side is peaceful, non-violent protest against any perceived and real civil or moral threats of an individual's choosing. Suppression of speech, and especially violent suppression of speech, is an enormous danger to free society.

No. In most states criminal harrassment, (somewhat like assault) requires a credible threat to you or your family's safety. Shouting racial epithets at a person, while disgusting and offensive, does not threaten their safety. I'd guess that you're thinking that this sort of thing is incitement to violence. For example when some nutbar hears all this and then goes and acts on it. But I disagree that in most all of these cases that is a proper argument. We don't hold BLM legally responsible for the deaths of the officers in Dallas despite the fact that they were directly calling for "pigs to fry like bacon", etc. We don't hold anyone else legally responsible for calling Scalise "Nazi scum" after that nutbar shot him at baseball practice. Your right to call me out as a Nazi pig if you so choose is inextricably tied to these douchbags right to spout awful disgusting and offensive things. Mein Kampf is available through your local library as is The Essential Ghandi. That is the way it needs to be in a free and open society.

This is 100% on point imho.

Re: POTUS 45.18 - Who Run Derpertown? McMasterBlaster Run Derpertown.

Zero surprise that one of our resident racist gaping *******s nailed Mein Kampf but couldn't spell Gandhi.
