You keep bringing this up, and I've never understood why you think this is some kind of an insult? Why I would be ashamed that I was able to handle moving somewhere away from where I was born, or marry into a family that has other interests. That's not something everyone can do, as I'm sure you know.

Meanwhile

Affirming its disdain for "Obamacare," the Trump administration on Thursday announced sharp cuts in programs promoting health care enrollment under the Affordable Care Act for next year.

Advertising will be cut from $100 million spent on 2017 sign-ups to $10 million, said Health and Human Services officials. Funding for consumer helpers called "navigators" will also be cut, from $62.5 million for 2017, to $36.8 million for next year.

About 12.2 million people signed up for subsidized private health insurance under former President Barack Obama's signature law this year. The number currently enrolled is estimated to be around 10 million, due to attrition also seen in prior years.

Democrats are likely to accuse the administration of trying to undermine the ACA.

In The Federalist Papers (No. 20) Hamilton's special guest star, James Madison, thought the Dutch Republic, despite it's general framework, was a good example of how not to do things in America, referring to it as possessing "Imbecility in the government; discord among the provinces; foreign influence and indignities; a precarious existence in peace, and peculiar calamities from war." He was rather unkind to the Dutch, but to be fair, some folks still have a beef 200 years later.

First amendment rights, (speech, the press, religion) are different in the US, and in practice are unusual compared to much of Europe. Americans have traditionally held these freedoms of expression in higher regard. Despite some apparent erosion, that appears to still remain the case:

So Senator Grassley and Senator Graham are all in a huff because Comey wrote a draft of his exoneration of Clinton before the investigation was done. Apparently this is the important news of the day.

Who Knew First Draft's Were a Bad Thing

Of course they are jumping to conclusions without hearing all the evidence and actually going public so apparently THEY arent held to the high standard they think the FBI should be ;) Isnt it ironic...

It's a poll of the people so in light of the Venezuelan protests of the last 3 years and the Government crackdown, it seems likely to me that the importance of First Amendment type rights has probably risen among the general population.

Wonder how many Texans were for this just 2 weeks ago... (let's be honest, how many of them are still for it)

From the AP:

President Donald Trump is promising billions to help Texas rebuild from Hurricane Harvey, but his Republican allies in the House are looking at cutting almost $1 billion from disaster accounts to help finance the president’s border wall.

The pending reduction to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster relief account is part of a spending bill that the House is scheduled to consider next week when Congress returns from its August recess. The $876 million cut, part of the 1,305-page measure’s homeland security section, pays for roughly half the cost of Trump’s down payment on a U.S.-Mexico border wall.

It seems sure that GOP leaders will move to reverse the disaster aid cut next week. The optics are politically bad and there’s only $2.3 billion remaining in disaster coffers.
