Re: POTUS 45.14 - No Confusion, It's Collusion!

Do people here honestly think there is a line that trump can't cross with his base? If so, what would the line be? I mean before trump, we all would have thought a politician would have been sunk by mocking a disabled person, or by bragging about grabbing a women's crotch, or by referring to an entire nation of people as rapists and thugs, or by any one of the hundreds of stupid things he's said. What could he say that would finally cause erosion among his base supporters? I personally think he could say literally anything, and it would have no effect. None. I don't even think if he is caught on tape saying he played his voters for the fools and rubes they are and is only using the presidency for personal enrichment or to keep the Russian mob from assassinating him would have a measurable effect on his support. As bad and evil as trump is, if I'm right what does it say about the 60+ million who voted for him? And what does that say about our chances of ever realizing a just society?

I like how you completely ignore the emails and murder at Benghazi.

Re: POTUS 45.14 - No Confusion, It's Collusion!

There is no line for him publicly. All there is is a line where those people turn off politics and stay home.

Re: POTUS 45.14 - No Confusion, It's Collusion!

Why isnt Jeff Sessions investigating Crooked Hillary still???

And that.

But I've come around to realizing that what Trump is doing is really not that different from what HRC and all other politicians do. Dems should take a break from all the screeching and remember that, is all I'm saying. We can learn to deal with Trump just like GOPers learned to tolerate Obama.

I don't see why it's so hard for people to understand that.

As far as things I could believably see him doing, I'd like to imagine he'd lose a pretty good chunk of religious voters if he suddenly announced he didn't really believe in "that whole God thing", or shot his mouth off in favor of abortion rights - we all know the guy isn't religious or pro-life.

Other than that, I think you're right. Hell, even the above probably wouldn't have much effect. At this point, most of his voters are so far in the tank for Donnie, that short of him getting caught in bed doing a line of coke off an underage boy's buttocks (my apologies for that visual), or screaming "ALLAH AKBAR!" and ripping off his ill-fitting suit to reveal an Arab sikh's outfit, they're all aboard Trump Shuttle for the full, round-trip transcon.

Most of them aren't on board for Donnie, they're on board against the Liberal Agenda. And afraid of it. That's why it doesn't matter to them how unfit he is.

Thanks for the cite. I did read it, and I'm sure there is some truth to what he says.

I was wondering when he would address the work of Murdoch and Ailes (and Limbaugh, actually) but was more than a little surprised to see him use them as a model to address "an untapped market for a more fair and balanced news channel." THAT was a curveball I completely whiffed on.

Re: POTUS 45.14 - No Confusion, It's Collusion!

Oh, poor Donnie, so unfairly savaged by the liberal press. In no way did such a humble, God-fearing, qualified candidate deserve such a fate.

Michael Goodwin said:
But our national media is more like 80-20 in favor of Democrats.

This had me rolling. Unless, of course, you don't consider all the right-wing rags on the Internet (Alex Jones, Breitbart, RedState, et al) to be national media, which they are since they're getting access to the White House. Even then, claiming an 80/20 bias is a stretch.

Liberals used to love to say, “I don’t agree with your opinion, but I would fight to the death for your right to express it.” You don’t hear that anymore from the Left. Now they want to shut you up if you don’t agree. And they are having some success.

Ah yes, this old claptrap that we've been hearing for almost 20 years now. Outside of incidents on a few campuses where the student population got out of hand, it's mostly hot air. Don't you guys have better arguments at this point?

Incredible advances in technology are also on the side of free speech. The explosion of choices makes it almost impossible to silence all dissent and gain a monopoly, though certainly Facebook and Google are trying.

This is correct, but of course he had to sneak a comment about big, bad, eeeeevil Facebook and Google's progressive execs trying to "silence" conservatives in there. God forbid there should be a way to report abuse, or obvious fake news stories from sources that have been established as phony, being posted on those sites.

Coming from Hillsdale College, the fact that this article pretty much makes Trump and conservatives out to be victims is no surprise. They're a smaller, marginally saner, nondenominational version of Liberty U with higher admissions standards. That part of Michigan is basically indistinguishable from northern Indiana.

Hillsdale prides themselves on taking no federal funding so they don't have to follow federal guidelines. You know, like those pesky anti-discrimination ones. Their president also called minorities "dark ones" a few years back.

This is great. Please keep it up!

Re: POTUS 45.14 - No Confusion, It's Collusion!

As for free speech:

Today's liberals are indeed against free speech, unless you agree with them. How else do you explain the ideas of banning hate speech and the like? I don't like hate speech either. I abhor it. But those folks do have a right to SAY it. They don't have a right to ACT on it. That is a monstrous difference. If Jim Billy Bob wants to shout out to everyone how he hates n*s and f*s, go ahead. Fine. Gonna ignore it.

If he starts physically backing up what he is saying, now we have an issue.

Re: POTUS 45.14 - No Confusion, It's Collusion!

Not all liberals are against free speech. We reserve the right to think you might be a waste of space and a dumb **** for what you say, which definitely doesn't sit well with many.
Who here wants to ban free speech? Just because I think his guy belongs in a mental institution says nothing about free speech.

Who proposed a law banning hate speech?

We know some states, Wisconsin included, (under Walker) have introduced regulations for college campuses which would punish conduct such as hecklng which is deemed to have the effect of suppressing other speech. Not all other speech--religious speech.
