POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

Re: POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

People who have a LOT of money would not likely go for it. They'd rather spend their money on things to kill other people. See- don.

You just insulted Sir Richard Branson and Bill Gates and Warren Buffett and tons of other super-mega-wealthy folks who espouse such things. You're saying they wouldn't back it up with the dollars?

Most of the ultra rich give large chunks of money to humanitarian efforts. Some of them aim at specific goals while others are more broadly based charities, while others like Buffet simply give to The Gates Foundation because he already has the infrastructure setup. Also, don't forget the Mormon Church for its philanthropic works; though that's more of a collection of commoners coming together.

I understand this. I am suggesting we create a system of charity that is sufficient.

However, this is a private club. We get to choose who we help. The virtue of the state was it helped everybody, which meant people could rant and whine about "them durned shiftless Negroes!" and then go to the mail box and get their gubbmint cheese (and pills). No more. Cut the dead wood. If you want into our club you'll abide by our rules. Rule #1 is stop being a selfish d-ck. You don't want to stop being a d-ck? Fine, you're out. Good luck getting help from the laissez-faire types. (Here's a hint: you better be white, straight, and Christian, to begin with.

I'm saying we John Galt, but instead of the captains of industry it's the smartest, the wisest, and the kindest. We can't physically leave the gorilla planet, so I'm saying we economically leave the gorilla economy. (Though with our brains and enterprise we'll probably be able to leave the gorilla planet in the near future, now that we don't have to drag along all that deadwood. Science has always been the gift of the left to the ungrateful grubs of the right.)
There is something to this but it will be a tough system to break.

And here I thought a house divided against itself is a house that cannot stand. Darn corporate sellout shill Abraham Lincoln.

Honestly, that's the model Kepler is proposing: a closed, common beliefs group.

Yup, Kep's channeling the Mormon charity model.

Sorry about that Kep. Try this. ;) :D

< ding! >

How do you make Planned Parenthood no longer beholden to Government money? Don't take Government money.

It's crazy talk, but I'd like to see a truly smaller government doing less and less; but, along with that, taking less and less from everyone in taxes. Why?

Then people can put their money where their mouths are. Nancy Pelosi can use her personal wealth to support her causes. Crabby ol' Newt Gingrich can do the same. Social programs no longer exist as political pawns. The Government reforms and reshapes to do the mandatory Constitutional minimums.

But I know it can't happen. It's too libertarian sounding; and, government never ever takes less money or gets smaller.

And we learned centuries ago that charity doesn't cover everything, so a lot of people out of favor get screwed even more than they do today.

Seriously, what's up with you libertarian types wanting to ignore history and act like there isn't a reason for most government involvement.

In Kepler's plan, yes, yes it would. His groups would take care of their own. And I suspect the "out of favor" would align to form their own self-supporting group.

Yeah, how'd that work out for African-Americans for the first 200 years of this country?

It's not those "out of favor," though. It's "we'll take care of ours, you take care of yours."

And this is in fact how the systems of charity worked in the Good Olde Days before the gubbmint, and why they failed: people only give money to people who look like them, unless they think there's some chance of indoctrinating them into their way of thinking.

We've been fighting human nature since 1848. A new approach is needed.

The Wall is now an executive order. Think about that for a minute.

If you're sad about what Trump is doing, here's a heartwarming tale about what he isn't doing. Couldn't happen to a nicer group of people. I wonder if Brownie is available to come back and do another heck of a job for 'em.

What do we need FEMA for? Just have them get what they need from Charity.
