POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

Did what? You're not saying that what Congress passed in 2015 (and was updated by Obama last year) is the same as what Trump did last week are you? Or are you saying a two is no different from a ten when you need to justify the ten?

Your sounding pretty flaggish, joe.

Well I believe Obama paused the refugee program from Iraq in 2011. But that was also because of an actual legitimate terrorism threat where they were afraid some got through unlike this.

Re: POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

I'm not sure how I feel about Obama suspending the refugee program either. I think that if we aren't confident enough to vet these people, we should be evaluating the vetting program, not suspending refugee programs.

But then again, I suppose that's exactly why they suspended it temporarily. Temporary bans are likely fine if they are applied with a scalpel instead of a bulldozer. So I don't know.

Re: POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

Sorry buddy but the dog just wont hunt. Leaving aside that this isnt legal anyways...I never saw you around here defending the things Obama was doing which were legal. Hell the only thing political you ever talked about was Hillary and her handling of (possibly) classified material. You should be livid over the crap Trump is doing with private servers, non-secured phones, non-governmental emails and of course having a guy who has previously ACTUALLY mishandled classified information.

But back on topic...something isnt illegal until it is made illegal. You have to often take a moral stand to fix it. (see: Slavery, ERA, Civil Rights Amendment) If everyone lived by the standard you do there would be no progress or change. You can say "well it is legal" but you dont have to defend it and you sure as hell dont have to stand for it. That is why people protest...

I think you should rethink how you say these things...I know what you mean to say but the way you worded it is way off and makes you sound a bit closer to Trump than you want to be.

And is it legal? Does the president have the Constitutional authority to enable such an action absent legislation to do so passed by Congress?

Re: POTUS 45.1 - You take the high road and I'll take the low road

Noone on this site will admit to having voted for Trump, and it is rare to see someone defend him directly. Yet there are constant efforts to equate his actions to Obama or Clinton, accurately or not. Why is that? I mean, if you believe in the guy and trust him, you stand up and declare, don't you?

...Save that for Flag. ;)
He's kinda endearing, in that he he thinks the emails my crazy uncle forwards to me in jest are actually real.

Sometimes I wonder if he really believes what he links to 100%, other times I feel it's an act. A really, really good act at times. ;)

They're also reportedly holding dual citizens now. Which should be a complete violation of their Constitutional rights if they're being held or searched without evidence or cause.

From what multiple sources tell me, it's not an act.

Can't all citizens be held for a certain time without charges? What are the laws regarding this?

Personally I think these people might have a legit lawsuit.

Yes. I actually got into a debate with a self-righteous Republican about it last night.

Seems the Iraqi visas were suspended in 2011 only for refugees that were in the process of getting visas or going to apply. The ban did NOT extend to those of Iraqi citizenship already in the US, or had legal visas to travel to/from the US. It was for new refugees only.

Turned out two Iraqi refugees in Kentucky were arrested as insurgents in 2006 (ish). They traveled to Syria in 2011, and then said they were refugees and we're extracted from Syria to the US.

Their fingerprints didn't flag their names as insurgents within the US computer system that was being used in Syria.

The US suspended, again, only new visa applicants from Iraq for six months to sort out who was already in the states and to fix their system.

It's fun to get the echo chamber stirred up?

This is how you guys are going to be citizens? You have no interest in whether the president's actions are effective, legal, or moral? Just going to play politics with it?

Fine, we won't expect any help from your side. Which is too bad, because this is likely the only time in our lives we will be called on to actually live up to American values.

And the right won't answer the bell. Because of a letter. Sad!

8 U.S.C. 1182 in part..
(f) Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President
Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate. Whenever the Attorney General finds that a commercial airline has failed to comply with regulations of the Attorney General relating to requirements of airlines for the detection of fraudulent documents used by passengers traveling to the United States (including the training of personnel in such detection), the Attorney General may suspend the entry of some or all aliens transported to the United States by such airline.

Kep - it looks like it is legal.
