Poser of the Year -- History

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

I do wonder what future generations will do when they try to look back upon the past and find a giant void in documented history starts near the year 2000.

That's the nice thing about those quaint devices known as "books." While they are very bulky and hard to store efficiently, they are safe from changes in technology. I wonder how much data is out there in formats that can no longer be read?

I have a PhD thesis on a 5-1/4" floppy, for example, that I probably can't retrieve any longer without going to a computer museum.

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

To clear the air:
I said during the whole Ferguson debate that there were times I get so riled up by discussions that I don't like what I'm saying anymore and will take time off. I have done that a few times. I do not "Take my ball and go home."
One poster suggested I kill myself. He wasn't kidding. He wasn't joking around. He was serious. It just so happens that at the time he said that I was having a nasty reaction to some new medication for headaches. The last thing I needed was some ******* telling me I should kill myself. That's when I deleted a bunch of threads, left a farewell message in the Extras thread and a note on the printer for my mom. Fortunately the pills I took were not lethal and Parkview Hospital brought me back. As I said many time to many therapists over the next year, it doesn't make sense that I would try that when I had worked so hard to recover from this dammed tumor.

It was the following year that I did in fact get a job online - moderating this forum. I am not sure how much longer I'll be doing that. I am seeing the doctor later today because I still am suffering from these headaches and what only a few people know is that I have now developed a precursor to cancer. The odds that I actually get cancer are slim, but they exist. And I still have this tumor.

Didn't mean to rant, but I figure if people are going to speculate about it, I may as well come out with the truth. I also hope my story serves as a reminder that there are real people out here who suffer from depression, even if we joke around a lot. Guys, make sure you get all those "-oscopies" your doctor advises because you never know when they'l find something.

Dang...

In all seriousness, all the best wishes to you, and hopefully things turn out for the best.

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

Nate had to have won once.

nate91b won once or twice. phil_dupree got one or two. (So the [likely] one guy won as many four titles.) ComAvHusky won the innaugural tourney. I don't remember the others.

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

nate91b won once, IIRC. Dirty won a couple times, I think. CommAvHusky won once. I don't recall if phil_dupree won or not.

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

Dupree won. His sig line is:
Lord Phil Dupree: elected Poster of the Year in a rare special USCHO election!

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

Brent also posted this in the 2010 thread
Past winners include CommAvHusky (founder of said contest, no less), nate91b, dropthatpuck (only repeat winner in PoTY history), Jon, and Brenthoven.

Yes folks, it's just about that time! The annual Poser Of The Year Contest! The candidates are being grouped as we speak, and the opportunity to vote for PoTY will be available later this week.

This thread is for any general discussion or questions about the contest.

Past winners include CommAvHusky (founder of said contest, no less), nate91b, dropthatpuck (only repeat winner in PoTY history), Jon, and Brenthoven.

Let's get the basics out of the way, shall we?

1. How do I get entered in such a contest?
You don't do anything! You are simply chosen! It's that easy!

2. What IS a Poser?
That is for you to decide. Some think it's a poster who is annoying. Some think it's a poster whose board persona does not match the real life person. Some think it's a poster who is just constantly posting. Maybe it's a poster who doesn't know anything about anything. It's up to the voter to decide.

3. Is winning the Poser Of The Year a good thing or a bad thing?
That depends on the contestant. Some contestants think it's a bad thing, while others revel in it.

4. Is voting public?
You bet your arse it is.

5. Can I vote for more than one poster?
For the most part, yes. You'll see for yourself later on.

6. Can anyone vote?
Of course! Take note, however, of the closing time of the poll. Make sure your vote is counted!

7. What if there is a tie?
There are no ties. The tiebreaker consists of many things rolled into one, which may include but is not limited to: posts, veteran status, poo-flinging monkeys, rep chiclets, the weather, past PoTY finishes, prayer, PWR, KRACH, and team affiliation.

If there are any other questions, feel free to ask. And start thinking about who is YOUR Poser Of The Year!!!

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

Also, didn't Dude Love win in 2010?

The 2010 thread has a post by Dude Love that has a sig line of 2009 Poser of the Year.

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

By employee, I meant Board in particular. I'd say Priceless is elgible.

This is to prevent the obvious: Board would win every year. ;)

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

Gotcha. It looks like there's some discrepancy in the years. In the 2010 thread, Dude Love wins and he claims 2009 in the sig line. However, in the 2011 thread, he's mentioned as the previous year's winner.

Re: Poser of the Year -- History

That's right, Jon did win a contest.

I think the DL thing was the tiebreaker year, so there was some confusion.
