Playoff Results 2021

Personally I’d like to see Northeastern vs Wisconsin.....if HE is ever going to outplay the WCHA, the Huskies should be able to do just that.....they are equal if not a bit better than the Badgers in personnel (thinking goaltending here) so IMHO it’ll be Flint vs Johnson! Systems vs game analysis....should be quite a game if we get there!
Hope that everyone enjoys a Guinness today! Slalnte’! ☘️

Love the western elitest part of this but...Not so sure about that. LOL

Okay that may have been a stretch. :D

Point was Penn State had no competition this year and they are hanging their hat on their record. If they came to play in the WCHA this year they would have finished 5th at best and possibly 6th behind the Mavericks. ;)

(Just a reminder, in case we get there...)

Wisconsin and Northeastern played one another 'last year' (and a lifetime ago), first weekend of January 2020. Wisconsin won 4-3 in OT. Yes, different year, different teams, some different players, etc. But Wisconsin put up four on Frankel, and the goal and assists of the OT winner were all players on the current UW team.

Fully agree on MN was a big miss and needed to be at the tournament. Not sure how you think Penn State belongs though. They didn't play anyone this year to validate their winning record. The only rep from the CHA got pounded 5 to1 and was out shot 46 to 21. No better than BC or Providence IMO. I'm sure St. Cloud could have a record just as good as Penn State if they played in the CHA.

I hope they don't legalize weed in MN because what you are smoking is laced with hallucinogens. THere are 4 teams in the CHA that would pound the two lower WCHA teams on a regular basis. Penn state pounded RMU during the regular season.

PSU would beat the mavericks 3 out of 4 just better talent from top to bottom.

Question: regardless of who wins the tournament, does their national title deserve an asterisk due to the shortened season and lack of full participation of all programs across the country?

Putting Penn State in the same category as the Gophers or any of the top 4 of the WCHA, is quite funny. You are joking around right?

If Penn State was a top 4 team, even a top 10 team, they wouldn't have lost to a team that maybe wasn't even in the top 30. Maybe next year.

I do agree the Gophers are a better team than BC and Providence. However, I also think they would have been one and done, as was BC and Providence - purely based on having a lower seed and having to play Wisc or OS in their first game. I think those two teams are in the Gopher players heads. I think the Gophers weakness is their D core - they didn't look very good. However, it is hard to look good when consistently playing top 5 teams.

You people are everybit as bad as the comittee you can't see the forest from the tree the talent pool is so much bigger now and you seem to think that all the talent is in the hockey east and the WCHA. The whole reason the CHA doesn't get any respect is it is primarily stocked with Canadian players are they as deep as the Gophers Wisconsin and OSU, No but the CHA schools don't use the transfer portal like OSU and the badgers do. Just a thought where would WISC be if Watts and Blair had not transfered in from the Hockey east and the CHA?

I am more than happy to set aside any bias. However, I need a reason. RMU did ok at times against NU, however, watching NU quite a lot this season, mid level Hockey East teams performed way better against NU than RMU. RMUs goalie was fantastic though. Hopefully Penn State (and additional CHA teams) will prove that the conference deserves a lot more respect than they are getting. Penn State certainly appears to be on the upswing. But it sure didn't help losing their best recruit for next year to the Gophers.

The 2003 class is relatively weak, so I don't see any real 'game changers' coming in next year. Mya Vaslet has good size, is a good skater, and plays a 200' game. She is the top incoming player for PSU, and offers more than they would have gotten with Conner who will RS and see limited ice at MN.

Who wants to transfer to a CHA school??? Wink Bugeyes LOL. One could probably say when Watts was in the portal that CHA teams reached out to her, they just didn't get her. BC and MN also have transfers, I don't know who else out of the top 10 has them, but that is at least 4 out of 10. At this point it is a way of life and to ignore it as a tool to improve your team is foolish.

Coming from the guy saying we can't see the forest from the trees. I think you are stuck in your own cloud and can't see out of it. Clean those lenses on your glasses! You may have beaten Robert Morris, but pounding them would be a stretch! From looking at the box scores of your games you had 2 one goal games. To top it off, the total of shots for all 4 games give Robert Morris a 3 shot edge. So I would say play was pretty equal from a statistical measure. If play was pretty equal, and Robert Morris who was in the tournament (not Penn State) got pounded by Northeastern where does that leave us???? Well from my standpoint, and many others outside your bubble the CHA teams don't stack up against the big girls. Therefore a winning record playing a weaker schedule doesn't equate to a good measure for your argument.

Hopefully next year we are out of these dumb covid restrictions and your team can play outside their conference to prove me wrong. Or maybe not, since you probably side with Walz and prefer to stay in your bubble and work from home. Until then you really don't have a leg to stand on IMO:p

Nope. It is flawed, and the Gophers got screwed, but after all, the teams still have to win the games on the ice, and that's fine. It's not like they ended the season early, and gave the team with the best winning percentage the Championship. Anybody who cares, will know it's a covid year.

Northeastern's first line winger Maureen Murphy is a 'this year' transfer from Providence.

Robert Morris has a transfer from Wisconsin who had a pretty good game Monday; two shots on goal and a centering pass that could well have turned into a tip-in.

They also have Michaela Boyle from Clarkson.

Wisconsin also needed a fluky goal and a terrible penalty call to get that win, not to mention allowing the most shots in regulation that they'd allowed in the Mark Johnson era.

Nah, can't do anything but play the games you have in front of you. Do all Wisconsin's titles deserve an asterisk because they always played a much weaker, and often lower seeded team? Know what, let's say maybe.

Looking forward to the Northeastern - UMD game, which no one seems to be talking about. Be interesting to see how UMD handles a team with better elite talent and more depth.

Hopefully OSU can pull out a win and put two eastern teams in the Finals again.

It's more than that, though. After you play 60 minutes against Roque, she's had an impact on the game, whether she or her line ever do anything to put a puck in the net. Going against a physical player like that starts to tilt the ice. Like the Buckeyes' goals in the second period were kind of a result of playing the entire period in the BC end. Eventually, the goalie gets worn out from having to be ready to defend a shot at all times.

UMD is going to win by 1 goal in a game highlighted by the goaltenders. If Soderberg plays as well as she did yesterday, Frankel will have nothing over her. The 1-goal difference will be some crazy, gritty goal by Hughes for the Bulldogs.

And OSU beats Wi - bank on it. The worst thing Wisconsin could’ve done was to beat Ohio State for the WCHA championship. Nobody motivates her players like Muzz and that’ll be top of her list of reasons for her players to get their butts moving.
