Plattsburgh State Hockey 2015-16 - Bob's 27th work in progress ...

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2015-16 - Bob's 27th work in progress ...

Dude are you that dense or can you not comprehend reading? It doesn't freakn matter what you or I think of Williams. The CRITERIA is the only FREAKN argument. How hard is that to understand? Learn the freakn process. You're starting to sound like a whinny little teenage girl who didn't get to go to the prom with the quarterback. PLATTSBURGH DIDN'T GET LEFT OUT BECAUSE THEY LOST TO GENESEO ALONE! Had Williams played a ranked team in their quarter-final, they still would have beaten Plattsburgh in criteria, you know...that thing which is the ONLY thing that matters....[/QUOTE

I know the criteria argument......don`t respond if you don`t like what you`re reading. Dense, whinny teenage girl.....really. I`m just stating what I think is a perceived snub against Plattsburgh. That`s it.......I`m just expressing an opinion.

You're opinion means as much as...well...that. Saying it is a snub when its black and white just shows you can't accept the facts. Don't like it? Don't follow DIII hockey.

I don't like what Im reading because the garbage you're calling an opinion does nothing but confuse those people who are trying to understand the system and process, which is pretty simple once you take your own bias views out of it.

In order to be a "snub" would imply the committee did something wrong, which is 110% false. THAT is the issue with your "opinion".

I see your opinion is gospel. The committee did not do anything wrong in applying the numbers etc for the criteria and that is not my point. My point is that the process and the criteria are flawed beyond reason. What the committee should have done was have a discussion regarding Williams. They should have just asked simply how do we include a team that had a pretty good year but lost to a pretty bad team in their conference quarter final. Not semi final...quarter final! The answer would have been simply we can`t. Therefore they would not have been included in any criteria comparison`s because they would have been precluded from any bid opportunity. Then teams that actually had better overall records and who lost in their conference finals would have been considered. Those teams are more deserving in my opinion. If that is garbage to you then that says more about you......I`m pretty sure that the followers on this forum won`t be too confused with the above scenario lol......not sure you will need to break it down for them as to you know not confuse them. Anyways before you get all defensive and call me names and belittle my input lets just agree to disagree. Move on shall we......no harm no foul.

Let's simplify things and eliminate Pool C altogether. Then no problems. Losers are not invited.

Then I want a 5 game series for first and second round conference playoffs and a 7 for the conference championship to make sure the best team makes it in.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2015-16 - Bob's 27th work in progress ...

So if a team goes undefeated all year, wins every game by 5 goals, and then losses in their QF Conference tournament... they shouldn't get a bid? A season's resume isn't built on one game, good or bad.

See Lancaster Bible, Div III basketball. They were undefeated with a dismal SOS (one of the worst in the country). They were never even regionally ranked by the NCAA. They knew going in that their first loss would be their last. They did win their conference tourney and got the autobid, and promptly lost their first round game by 13. Moral of the story is that record can't been a lone consideration. None of the criteria can.

I think this year there are no complaints. Most of us that have followed this system for years figured Plattsburgh needed the autobid to get in once Williams got knocked out of the NESCAC tourney (and were still ranked ahead of Plattsburgh). As Remy noted, the teams in our New Year's tourney were not helpful to SOS, Middlebury, Castleton, and Oswego were all down this year.

How about each conference gets two bids. Regular Season Champ and Post-Season Champ. If one team wins both, 2nd place Regular Season gets the 2nd bid.

Four teams play in the Opening Round and Fourteen teams go straight to the Round of 16.

One can only dream...

That's a good idea and would ensure the best teams advanced versus the criteria method currently in use. It's too bad the season couldn't start a little bit earlier because you could go to a playoff series format for the conference winners.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2015-16 - Bob's 27th work in progress ...

Darnit....You're right...D-II games...always bringing you down when it comes to NCAA selections.

Just to make Cardinal fans sick here.... it made me start thinking with regards to the SOS....(which correct me if I'm wrong was one of the main factors in UWSP going over Plattsburgh assuming that's how it rolled down).

If Norwich was given their 2-0-1 record vs DII teams they would go from a .630 win% to a .667 win%. Sure it doesn't sound like much. However, Norwich wasn't the ONLY opponent of Plattsburgh who played DII teams.

The latest DIII KRACH has
Plattsburgh: 145.3
UWSP: 160.1

Now, you add in all the DII teams into the mix....
Plattsburgh: 173.4
UWSP: 165.8

That's a 28.1 POSITIVE difference....I know it's KRACH and I don't have the NCAA numbers in front of me, but if SOS was a key component in UWSP beating Plattsburgh.... makes you wonder "what if". I'm not a mathematic guru so I don't know the exact NCAA SOS formula to find out the exact numbers, but something tells me that it would have been close. If Plattsburgh takes SOS, that's win% and sos to a close loss in RNK. 2-1....does Plattsburgh go dancing then? We will never know...

Lady Cardinals (27-1-0) shutout Amherst 5-0 in their NCAA Division III Quarterfinal game - now, if Elmira looses (which would leave Wis.-River Falls & Adrian), will they NCAA do the right thing and allow them to play at home or will they consider only the cost and send it west?

Makes me an Elmira fan tonight......just to be sure the right thing happens !

Elmira takes down Adrian 3-1. The Soaring Eagles join Plattsburgh, Midd, and UWRF in the semis

1 flight to Plattsburgh (River Falls) or three flights out west... It would seem that Plattsburgh is the obvious host of the four teams left...

Actually 2 flights W as the NCAA will put Plattsburgh and Middlebury in the same plane. But I believe it's in Plattsburgh.

Times are
Middlebury v Plattsburgh 3:30pm
UWRF v Elmira 7pm

They still have three teams to fly west, but thank you for sounding like my teenage daughter correcting me...:D

I ran into someone on Plattsburgh's staff today and they don't know where they will play next week, so I'm not sure how you know already. The NCAA page, which has been known to post 2011 information on its website, isn't the best of sources...
