Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

It really hit me this morning. The real ***** biter ended up being the tie to Cortland. That one point lost meant the difference between 1st and second!!!! UGH!

Plattsburgh had 6 SUNYAC games this season that were decided by 1 goal or less. 2 ended in a loss, and one in a tie. Any of those 6 games could have gone either way, so for each of those three that didn't go in Platty's favor, there was another 3 that did.
Oswego, for its part, also had 6 SUNYAC games that were decided by 1 goal or less. 2 ended in a loss, the other 4 were wins. Those games could've gone either way as well.

Realistically speaking, Plattsburgh could've easily had 5 more points in the SUNYAC and Oswego could've easily had 4 more points. Alternatively, Plattsburgh could've easily had 6 less points, while Oswego could've easily had 8 less points. Sometimes the entire season can be defined by one blocked shot, or one bad giveaway, or one good save by a goalie. Both Oswego and Plattsburgh could've had anywhere between 20 and 32 points this season. This just happened to be where the dice fell.

Don't torture yourself thinking about each opportunity missed. The players probably torture themselves enough about it. The playoffs begin now. Both Oswego and Platty have decent shots at a Pool C bid, so it's quite possible the two teams might face each other twice more (once in SUNYAC championship and again in the NCAAs). Keep calm and carry on. Best of luck to both teams!

Dude for the third time....do some research Plattsburgh AND Oswego have about a 0.0% of Pool C. Thats another ranked loss and another common opponent loss for Oswego. They better not lose to Plattsburgh again or good bye....

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Plattsburgh also had 5 of their 6 losses by a single goal, the lone exception being a 5-2 loss to Castleton. Usually the sign of a young team. An example to compare would be Norwich's propensity to win one-goal games (including a 1-0 win over Platty). They are a team loaded with seniors who "know how to win".

With freshman like Emmerling, Baleshta, Gorman, Fox, Smith, ,etc...the future looks very bright. In fact, it's not so much the Cortland tie or Fredonia loss that cost the Cards a decent shot at Pool C. It was the losses to Amherst and Castleton that did them in. Those were huge in the NCAA's eyes and are games that they would love to have back.

My post about the tie with Cortland was in reguards to losing the regular season SUNY chmpionship because of the loss of that point!! A pool C is out of the question unless somebody chokes on the heavy smoke!!

+1, unfortunately. Oswego's SOS this year us below .500 and their RNK is just awful. Their only shot to get into the NCAAs (same for the Cards) is to win the SUNYAC.

A good game last night and the first time I have been in the Staddford arena since they redid it. What I was impressed about the arena was the fact that you can see all the history of both the man's and women's teams. Unlike Oswego's which is now reduced to 2 trophy cases. Very impressed by Platty's goalie and he was the difference in both games this year. There was also a nice write up in the Press Repulsive on the game which hasn't always been the case.
Oswego 88

+2 for Respect going both ways...
Last night's game turned out to be just what every fan could possibly ask for. There was great atmosphere and two very good teams going at it. Fortunately, for us, the Cards came out on top. Congrats to the Cards and Oswego for making this another exciting season of hockey(with maybe more to come?!!!!!!!!!

Screw the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, the Cardinal/Laker matchups are The Greatest Show on Earth.

The Birds better hope that Oswego gets beat prior to the SUNY Finals. Beating the same team THREE times in a season is very, very, difficult.

Yes but Plattsburgh has done that more times against Oswego then anyone else....

All the seniors, pre season rankings, all the hype, regular season crowns, all the polls, the Final Fours, no Pool C bid, at home.....the pressure is ALL on Oswego!

Oswego's Pool C chances certainly took a hit with yesterday's loss but I wouldn't say they are totally out yet. If Norwich wins the ECAC East and Bowdoin wins the NESCAC and Adrian wins the MCHA I think Oswego still has a shot at a bid.

Unless they rank Geneseo and they dont face Plattsburgh again forget it. To many losses to ranked...low low SOS and losing two more to Plattsburgh hurts common opponents....

.....yup - Coach Digby was pretty clear in the post game interview with Keeley last night...it's win or go home time...you can be motivated to win or afraid to lose....either way, you keep playing if you win...go home if you don't...

Both Utica and Hobart (and *maybe* Babson) will get a Pool C before Oswego does. And that's just in the East. And that's assuming everyone who is supposed to win their AQ does.

Hype? From others teams fans I guess. Rankings? You mean, by your own words, mean nothing? Polls, same thing. No pool C for any SUNYAC team including your precious Birds. This is just another chance to bash, Remy.

Figures an Oswego fan now trying to flip the switch.....

Hype: Read back through the threads during the off season. It was and is warranted, a very good Oswego team.

Rankings: Rankings normally mean something except when you're Oswego who well yea we won't go there to save face...not shocked they grabbed the #1 seed over a Plattsburgh team that played 11 regular freshman and a top notch forward on defense. ..

Polls: While they mean nothing as far as NCAA seeding, polls ARE an indication of what a group of people think how good a team is. USCHO AND D3HOCKEY #1 EAST.

Pool C: See rankings. A SUNYAC Championship would be nice but A. With that many freshman and B. As good as Oswego "should" have been I (and a lot of others) wouldn't have been shocked to see them NOT win if they dont. As a matter of fact I think I had my precious Birds 3rd in my poll....just saying..

Theres no bashing. In fact IF Oswego doesn't win the SUNYAC I still stand behind its the most dissapointing 4 years in some time for Oswego. I think Plattsburgh has only ever lost the SUNYAC Championship twice? as the #1 seeded team....what would Oswego be up to now? 6 out of the last 8?

Like I said, 14 seniors, the big winning percentage, yadda yadd blah blah blah....to say Oswego doesn't have more pressure on them ..please get your head examined. I know the next few years will be down so maybe this will be just a good way to prepare yourself....

Don't forget there are more factors at play in accepting a team to a conference rather than just the sake of adding a team for balance sake or to please the hockey playing schools.

Does Geneseo really want to be in the same academic profile as Canton for instance?

This is a good observation. However, the problem isn't necessarily that Canton doesn't belong in SUNY, it's that Geneseo may not.

I know a goal (a very long term goal I assume) of President Dahl's is to remove Geneseo's SUNY attachment and become a private institution.

It would make sense as things currently stand with SUNY and Genseo as an institution. I must admit though I hadn't really thought about the athletic implications though.
