If you're driving over from God's greatest town to Plattsburgh, watch the flooding in Malone. The Salmon River has popped its banks.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Where at?

Just came through that area and you could see a little ice build-up in the Salmon River. I took 11 & 122 and had no problems but I didn't go to Malone.
The local paper reported there was some flooding in low area's in Malone. It is so cold that the rivers are freezing and creating ice jams.

Jensen making smooth transition to defense {Article courtesy of the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 1/25/2013}

With so many egos in sports, it should admired that Jensen made this transition without putting up a fight and is doing so successfully. Putting the team ahead of self!

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

The Jensen thing is a double edged sword. Yes, he plays back there with the savvy of a guy who's been playing it for years and it also allows the Cards to deploy another freshman in to their offense to develop. But it could also stunt the growth of the 3 freshman D (Cook, Botting & Calabrese) who all look to have some game. You don't want one of those kids leaving because he's a healthy scratch for a converted forward.

Jensen's skating ability and strength along the boards actually are more noticable back on defense. He also has a hard, albeit wild, shot from the point.I am sure Bob knows when to pull the plug on it whenver it isn't working.

Fox scores twice in Cardinals win over Potsdam {Article courtesy of the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 1/26/2013}

Plattsburgh State called a timeout late in Friday’s second period, and coach Bob Emery was animated on the bench while Potsdam coach Chris Bernard appeared to calmly talk to his players.

You would never have guessed it was Plattsburgh that held a 3-0 lead.

Emery said he just wanted to make sure the Cardinals took that cushion into the intermission. And in fact, they added to it before the period was over.

Plattsburgh ended up with a 4-1 win over Potsdam in a SUNY Athletic Conference men’s hockey game at Stafford Ice Arena.

“As a coach, you’re in the business of correcting mistakes, so you can always find ways to improve. But it was a good, solid win,” Emery said. “I thought we had a good first period.

“I would have liked to see us play in their end more behind the goal line, and I’d like to see us do a better job with turnovers. We still had too many turnovers in our own end.”

No. 9 Plattsburgh (13-5-1, 8-1-1 SUNYAC) led 1-0 after the first period, and Jared Docking got a good chance during a Potsdam 5-on-3 early in the second. He was stopped, but while the Cardinals were still down one man, Alex Jensen left a drop pass in the slot for his brother Nick, who one-timed it into the top right corner.

Michael Cassidy also assisted on the goal, and he tapped in rebound of a Michael Radisa shot at 8:50 for a 3-0 lead.

Potsdam (6-12-1, 3-7) started to get some chances after that, and Emery called the timeout with 2:45 left.

“There was a lot of play in our zone, and we don’t like that,” Plattsburgh forward Dillan Fox said. “We’re a defense-first team. We kinda got a little too comfortable, but the timeout was huge and kinda got everybody’s head where it needed to be. After that everyone kind of buckled down.”

Fox, who put the Cardinals ahead early in the first period, netted his second of the night with 1:26 left in the second to make it 4-0. The freshman now has four goals on the season. Docking assisted on both of his markers Friday.

Playing with Jared Docking, you get a little more space out there, and he makes great plays,” Fox said. “So he was able to find me both times. And it’s nice when I can finish them for him. Me, him and Smitty (Andrew Smith) have got some chemistry going for a few games now. We’re kinda getting to know where each other is, and tonight I was just the lucky guy.

Potsdam’s Dan McCamey scored in the third.

Mathieu Cadieux made 24 saves for the win. Jon Hall had 37 stops in the Bears’ net.

On Military Appreciation Night, the Cardinals wore red, black and white camouflage jerseys that were auctioned off afterward. Before the game, a video presentation honored members of the military, and then Plattsburgh recognized Jason Vasco, a former player who went on to serve in the U.S. Army, and several other students and staff with military ties.

Proceeds from the auction will go to the Pat Tillman Foundation, started in memory of the former NFL player who was killed in Afghanistan in 2004.

“I had a lot of respect for Pat Tillman and what he stood for, and we just wanted to do something to give back,” Emery said.

If someone leaves because they aren't getting playing time, then they'll be replaced by new recruits next year. It happens year in and year out. It's about winning the SUNYAC title and going to the NCAAs. If Nick Jensen playing as a defenseman gives them a better chance to do that, it's worth risking someone who's willing to leave packing their bags.

Right now they're 5-0 with Nick Jensen playing as a defenseman.

Although this is the men's forum, The Plattsburgh women beat Middlebury 3-1 (eng) to remain undefeated at 19-0-1.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Cards had better be sharp this weekend in Buffalo and Freddy. They have lost last two in Buffalo and 4 of last 10 games on this Western NY swing. Card fans had also better start hoping for Hobart, Amherst and Castleton losses.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Leis didn't travel to Buffalo this weekend. I knew Leis was pretty much considered the 3rd stringer (behind Foley) at this point, but now he's not even makng the trip out west? Coach Emery didn't explain why (all he said was "we just brought 2 goalies this weekend. That's all."), but he probably would've said if he were injured. Maybe it's disciplinary, maybe it's academic, maybe it's nothing. only they know, I guess. Just interesting.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Huge win tonight for the boys. Way to hold on in a really tough barn! Cadieux with some big stops down the stretch. Good, smart game and more great experience for our youngsters. Docking is our MVP!!

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

I know one of Coaches rules is you can't travel if you don't have at least a 2.5 GPA. not sure if that's why Josh didn't make the trip or not, but I know that is one of his rules since Nate mentioned grades.
