Two new names to really watch for this season: Smith and Gorman. They look like high-end guys for new Cardinal class.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Cardinals Recruiting Class of 2012-2013 looks pretty good! 7 players recruited achieved over a point per game on average last season. Popp (41G-20A-61PTS in 40GP) and Smith (45G-38A-83PTS in 56GP) look to be ones with great potential.

http://www.d3hockey.com/recruits/2012/men/SUNYAC

One name missing from that list is Kevin Emmerling who is a forward that showed a ton of potential before a serious leg injury resulted in a lack of blood flow from his femur (thigh bone) to his right knee. As an 8th grader he recieved verbal scholarship offer to play at Northeastern University. This is a quote from ESPN Boston's MIAA Boys' Hockey All-State Team "Perhaps the most skilled skater in the state, the Pioneers center provided a dynamic offensive punch to their Super 8 run. The Whitinsville native finished third in Division 1 scoring with 26 goals and 30 assists for 56 points." He was named to 2nd team all state with all 3 1st team forwards going either BU or BC. He is also a Bob Emery type of player this is a quote from his senior season I really dont care if I score a goal or make an assist, just as long as we win, he said. In the past, I must admit I never really had to play much defense it was basically all offense for me but now Im trying to work on that aspect of my game. To me, defense is more important than offense. Last I knew he was coming here to Plattsburgh but I am unsure if that changed or not in case sombody knows something I don't.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

I did a bit of searching and it does look like Emmerling is attending Plattsburgh State. Whether he's playing or not this year, we'll have to wait and see.

More news from The Bryan Hince front...

The Albany Devils defeated the Whale, 3-1, Wednesday night at Champions Skating Center in Cromwell, CT, in the Whale’s AHL preseason opener.

Brandon Burlon, Harri Pesonen and Darcy Zajac scored for Albany, and J.T. Miller had the lone Connecticut goal. The Devils outshot the Whale, 34-19.

The game remained scoreless until there were only 42.7 seconds remaining in the first period, when the Devils scored a power-play goal. The goal came during a seven-minute Albany power play, created when the Whale’s Brent Henley repeatedly punched the Devils’ J.S. Berube, who did not respond.

During the man advantage, Burlon fired a shot from the left-wing boards that went through a Zajac screen and eluded Connecticut starting goaltender Jason Missiaen.

The power play carried over into the second period, and Albany struck again at 2:57 of the second, on a goal by Pesonen. Pesonen got his stick free in front of the Whale goal and deflected a right-point shot by Roman Hrabarenka past Missiaen.

The Devils made it a 3-0 lead at 6:52, with Zajac jamming the puck past Missiaen off of a goalmouth scramble.

The Whale finally got on the board on a five-on-three power play at 16:08, as Miller took a pass from Sean Collins and one-timed the puck past Albany’s Maxime Clermont.

The win in net went to Jeff Frazee, who stopped all 10 shots he faced before giving way to Clermont at the 10:48 mark of the second period. Clermont stopped seven of eight shots. The Whale also changed goaltenders at 10:48 of the second, with Bryan Hince (no goals on 12 shots) replacing Missiaen, who made 16 saves in absorbing the loss.

The Whale are back in preseason action Thursday night, traveling to Worcester to meet the Sharks, at the College of the Holy Cross’ Hart Center. Faceoff is 7:00 PM. The Whale’s only other home preseason game is this Sunday, October 7, as they and the Sharks rematch at the Koeppel Community Sports Center on the campus of Trinity College. That game faces off at 2:00 PM.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Was anyone surprised?? Too much NHL talent now in the AHL which leads to AHL players being sent to the Coast (and so on).

Wasn't surprised in the slightest. Just a matter of what round of cuts he made.
