Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11
Rumor has it that when a player comes down to Oswego and Plattsburgh, Bob goes elsewhere. Like I said, I think he is more frustrated to keep losing recruits/transfers because of $$$. No offense but there isn't much to "sell" them on anymore. Crowds: Oswego > Plattsburgh, Arena: Oswego > Plattsburgh, Arena Music: Oswego > Plattsburgh, Recent Success: Oswego > Plattsburgh, FA: Oswego > Plattsburgh, Closer to Home: Depends so we will call it a push, Academic: Again, not sure that has a lot to do with a kid choosing to play hockey at either school, rip me all you want but...push. Hockey Coverage: Oswego > Plattsburgh, Scoreboards: Oswego > Plattsburgh.
The only thing Plattsburgh might have on Oswego is less snow, and my favorite part...tradition. But you can only sell the past on recruits so much, and only so many can and will buy into it.
Everyone may pick on Emery for saying it at this time, but he has said the exact same things for months/years on BTB and other quotes when asked about FA. Even when Plattsburgh was on their streak against Oswego he made comments on how he had to compete with Oswegos FA when trying to recruit players. If you ask me that alone, especially in the mid 2000's, was a estimate of Emery's coaching ability. Taking the A- recruits and beating those teams who get the A+ recruits. Plattsburgh teams now have to bring their lunch pales to work every game against the more skilled Oswegos and Norwichs out there.
Crowds: Oswego > Plattsburgh -- So work on fixing it, Plattburgh has the potential, he SHOULD be able have an impact here.
Arena: Oswego > Plattsburgh -- Plattsburgh is "good enough", this "advantage" should be easily overcome.
Arena Music: Oswego > Plattsburgh -- as with the crowd - work on fixing it, Plattburgh has the potential, he SHOULD be able have an impact here.
Recent Success: Oswego > Plattsburgh - work on fixing it, Plattburgh has the potential, this is HIS job.
FA: Oswego > Plattsburgh - Plattsburgh still has a sufficient package, in MOST cases he should be able to sell the school as an upgrade.
Closer to Home: Depends so we will call it a push - True
Academic: Again, not sure that has a lot to do with a kid choosing to play hockey at either school, rip me all you want but...push, this SHOULD be the "kids" MOST important factor, but alas, it likely is, as you note, a "push".
Hockey Coverage: Oswego > Plattsburgh - Say what??? On campus, Plattsburgh unnecessarily demeans itself, it has the resources and potential, it just chooses not to, but DUCKY should add a significant counterweight to this.
Scoreboards: Oswego > Plattsburgh - the rear-projection screens at Oswego are at best ok, and often a frustration, with poor lines of sight, in the brightly lit arena, Plattsburgh COULD, with minimal effort, overcome any advantage they have here. Someone (IMO the Bruce is at the helm here) needs to force the sign company (Fair Play) to fix the scoreboards, they have NEVER consistantly worked, and in any event, at whatever cost, they need to be fixed.
The only thing Plattsburgh might have on Oswego is less snow, and my favorite part...tradition. But you can only sell the past on recruits so much, and only so many can and will buy into it. Tradition and legacy is certainly a great part, but "my favorite part" is still Emery, his gaffes and all, Oswego gets more snow, we get colder temperatures - a push. As for the recruits, they have finally reached the college level, and maybe for some, their athletic career has tapped out their "supporters", but for most, meeting the cost of playing will be met, so long as the benefits are there.
