Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Cards at the end of the road (Excerpt from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican article from 2/2/10)

"I was looking for this night to come after the schedule we had in January," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery. "After this game, the bulk of our road schedule is over."

"Middlebury plays on a big rink," said Emery. "It's great for our program to play Middlebury every year because they have such a great tradition."

Despite not being a SUNYAC contest, Emery says it's a big game for his team.

"This is a game that could mean a lot on tournament selection day, no doubt" he said. "I've been around and on the selection committee and know the outcome of this game could be important down the road."

"In a way, it's good to be playing again this soon so you don't have a week to think about the loss," Emery said. "On the flip side, this is another tough game on the road."

Emery took the good and the not so good out of the Oswego game.

"We didn't get the leadership we needed," he said. "But, there was still a lot of good to take out of the game.

"We held a team meeting on Sunday and I told the guys I was proud of them for their effort."

"We have to find a way to win these type of games," Emery said.

"We've had to overcome some adversity this season. We'll likely have to move a forward back to defense because of injuries to give us six defensemen for the Middlebury game."

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

I don't really think either team is better. I think they are 2 of the best hockey teams in the country

We don't agree on much, but I will on this one. The first game Plattsburgh reall took it to Oswego, but I don't think either team really outplayed one another. Oswego took it to Plattsburgh in parts, and Plattsburgh was buzzing around Oswego in parts. I think a 3-3 tie would have really summed up the story, but I'll take the loss, that much more motivation come playoffs.

You call them excuses, and so be it, but I'd like to see a Selleck-less, Lyon-Less with a goalie who has a .720 Save% and a 4.98GAA and go play a Plattsburgh/Norwich and see how you do. Add in losing another defensmen in the first period. Yes I understand everyone loses players, and thats fine, you play with what you got. Who knows, if things were changed Plattsburgh could have lost 10-1 for all we know. But as I said, take out Selleck, Lyons, and lose Huinink in the first and I think Oswego has a lot tougher time. There is a reason people were so worried about Fox not playing.

I don't think anyone said that Oswego didn't deserve to win....did they? I think the top 4 teams in the east (OSU,PSU,Elmira,Wick), when healthy, you could put a blanket over them they are that close. Some people want to put Oswego on an all mighty pedistal and call them better.

Anyone know what happened to Peter Kaliscik? Tonight Ducky didnt mention him as a scratch, like hes not on the team. Did I miss something?

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Williams: 3 goals allowed on 4 shots.

Yup, looks like it is all Leis's fault.

It's a team game, and perhaps now that Williams has fallen flat on his face, can we stop crucifying our freshman goalie. Who, by the way is a having a great year. (.928 save% and 1.66 GAA)

Stop the whining about Leis and realize the problem with this team is the lack of offense. Perhaps we should stop worrying about benching our freshmen goaltender and worry more about why Dylan Clarke, Phil Farrow, and Ryan Corry have been absolutely awful all season long. Perhaps we should bench the three of them, might not be a bad idea.

And in the length of time it has taken me to post this, Leis is now in net tonight and is the reason it is not 6-0 Middlebury just 5 minutes into the 2nd period.

..make that 8-0. Is that Sundberg in nets?

Benching Corry would be difficult with the lack of D, although I'm for it, he's been, in my mind, one of the biggest disappointments this year. Farrow has already been benched (Williams), and I think Clarke is really missing Satim. Well, I think the entire offense is missing Satim.

I expect mistakes from Puglisi, Grace, maybe even Kavanagh or McLeod, a guy who didnt get to play much last year and has improved tremendously. But giveaways by Corry. Unacceptable.

Bessing seemed to play well. I wasn't there; I wish someone who was could give more input about the game tomorrow morning or something. Not sure why Wieland didn't play tonight, but if he was a healthy scratch, like Ducky said, they sure could have used him

A) I agree, benching Corry would be impossible at this point. Hands are tied there.

B) Correct me if I am wrong, but Clarke and Satim haven't been playing on the same line this season. So the loss of Satim shouldn't have an effect on him. Regardless, Satim has played all season prior to his injury a couple games ago, Clarke has not performed all season long, what was his excuse for the first 18 games or so?

C) If Weiland was a healthy scratch, it could have something to do with the fact that he has been MIA since Christmas break along with the rest of the offense. Sadly, you can't sit everyone all at once or else you have no players left.

D) It is very ironic that although Williams was the one who gave up 3 goals on the first 4 shots, Leis is tagged with the loss because Plattsburgh scored a goal with 33 seconds left to bring their total up to 3, making the 4th goal the GWG.

Besides, the point of my post wasn't to call for the benching of players, although I do feel certain players could use it. It was to make a point to all of those who want to crucify Josh Leis.

Sundberg
Fr. - .950% 1.28 GAA (11-2-1)
So. - .907% 2.07 GAA (14-2-2)
Jr. - .926% 2.27 GAA (27-5-0)
Sr. - .922% 2.11 GAA (16-8-4)
Career - .925% 2.14 GAA

Leis
Fr. - .926% 1.75 GAA (5-3-3)

Williams
Fr. - .925% 1.77 GAA (8-1-1)

Now, in no way am I comparing either Leis or Williams to Sundberg. But take a look at the numbers and aside from Sundberg's freshman year, their numbers a better than his.
