Or maybe, just maybe, these "so-called" DI transfers were recruited but were lied to by the coaches that recruited them......Maybe they were promised things that never happened. Maybe they were tired of working their a**es off and never getting anything in return.![]()
Coaches need to be honest with the 16 and 17 year old kids they are recruiting....blowing smoke is really not cool, especially when you only have four years to play college hockey.
Interestingly, both Plattsburgh and Elmira are getting a transfer from the same D-1 team this year. Does that cancel out?
My daughter has always pointed out to me that there are different bands of players at the D-1 Level, with the lowest band being those players that ride the bench most the time but at the D-3 level are terrific. Sometimes players have to find the level that works best for them!
I guess we are splitting hairs about the term "recruited"...my definition of "recruited" is that the coach contacts the player, the school pays for an official visit and promises a certain amount of playing time or position on the team. Most DI programs rarely take a true "walk on"...a player that was never contacted or promised anything...there is simply too much talent out there to do that. I happen to know a couple of the Platty transfers and trust me...they were recruited (my definition), and promised things that never happened. Hence the reason for the transfer. What cracks me up about this whole conversation is that some people on here assume that it's the players ability or lack thereof prompting the transfer..... I am going back to my original post, maybe the fault lies with the coaching staff, and not the player. It's not toally out of the realm of possibilities.
Nice point coach can be wrong at times. It also could be that the school is not the right fit. Remember that the players are students first and hockey players next. As far coach Houle goes who cares why they called him ( my opinion he has probably talked to them first time around and left a good impression) . The important part of this whole thing is that the girls get a good education and enjoy their time at the school reguardless of how the hockey turns out.
where have you level-headed people been all my life! how refreshing to see some insightful, useful opinion on this topic instead of childish banter. and finally some people who realize that it's not just the players, its the coaches. stuff happens. things are said. its hard to follow through on 21 promises. and so, you transfer to another high-quality institution in the U.S. -- let's put our DI and DIII glasses aside for a second and just be happy for the girls to get the opportunity to keep playing the game they love...after all, isn't that the reason we are members of this forum to begin with? because we all love hockey?
Now that the transfers are coming into Plattsburgh I love how the faithful have changed their tune about girls transferring from program to another program. I remember a couple years ago you guys were singing a different song. I guess its ok for players to transfer into Platty when they aren't getting playing time or the school isn't the right fit or for financial reasons. But when players transfer out of Platty for those same reasons you guys belittle them and are completely classes when they play against Plattsburgh.
To the players going to plattsburgh this year...good luck...honestly. It's your four years to play and go to school. You've made your decision and it's no ones business but your own.
playing time was not a concern in that situation with the goalie exception...and it was coming off a championship year...i don't see a fair comparison
Exactly what I said before. There are many reasons for transferring. The School might not be the right fit or they don't agree while coaching philosophy's or financial....what ever it is, transferring in or out is their decision. But in this case they are coming in and that makes it ok in your eyes.
I see a fair comparison.

Oh, don't get me started on this one. There was soooo much drama going on behind the scenes in this case...especially by one individual who continuously slagged Platty after leaving...even though she was a mainstay in every game. It got totally ridiculous...on both sides of the fence I might add...but that's history. Thank GOODNESS!! Good luck to all and "let's get ready to rumblllle..."Looking for some great hockey from Platty this year!!
