Pictures of Your Arena

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

Michigan Tech's rink looks like it has great sightlines. The stands look a little steep but that only adds to the good views at sports venues IMO.

Compared to venues of similar size (and even some of significantly larger size), I do like the MacInnes' sightlines a lot. It was built in the early 70s, and I suspect the fire marshal and the university legal team would probably have some objections to the steepness of the seating if such a facility were to be constructed today.

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

Personally, I think steep seating is where it's at. I know, I know, it's a fire hazerd....but honestly, as a fan of all sports, especially basketball at the college and pro level as well as those levels of hockey, there should definitely be more arenas with levels on top of one another. It makes for a louder, more intimidating venue. Hopefully, more people feel like I do, and more architechs feel the need to design newer stadiums like that (Canseco Fieldhouse and Alfond Arena, while my opinion may be biased).

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

The MacInnes could be taken as a little steep but it's not like it goes up very far any way. Now the Joe Louis Arena.. that can get a little tiring and possibly unsafe. But the sight lines are astounding for having 20,066 seats.

The old Chicago Stadium was like that and was by far the loudest, craziest sporting venue that I've ever been to. In the third deck, you were nearly looking down on top of the boards.

They keep saying on National Blackhawks broadcasts that the old atmosphere is back...

Not even close my friends, not even close. :(

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

I'll second the idea of "being on top of the game" in stadiums... I still believe that the best seats I have ever had at a sporting event go to being just inside the blueline at the old Chicago Stadium... They were in the 3rd level, 1st row... I remember my dad just randomly getting the tickets to a game against the Canadiens back in March 1994... I wish I could have taken pics... You felt like you were the "Fly Cam" they use on TV... I have never felt so close to a game ever...

Here's a nice shot of our extra large penalty box for visiting teams...

Okay, so I looked at the code of other posters whose images show up in their reply and did the same thing yet mine shows up as a link.

As Nancy Kerrigan once said....

WHYYYY.......:( :(

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

Is it just the "i' in front of 820 instead of the "s" that was there?

It can't be that simple, can it?

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

There you go. :)

If you visit your old link:

http://s820.photobucket.com/albums/...rrent=16332_1133781036041_1572775495_3032.jpg

When you roll over the image, a set of menus should appear. Open up the 'Share' menu and click 'Post to Website', then click the 'Get Link Code' tab, and make sure you copy/paste the code for bulletin boards and forums.

That should work in the future.

Thank God for you techies! Where would we be without you? :D

Thanks!

The Superior Dome where NMU used to play? World's largest wooden dome.

When I was up there last Summer I got the impression that it was their home venue, but I see online that they play at Berry.

I should have shot a pan of this, oh well...

No. NMU plays football at the Superior Dome (pictured above), and hockey at the Berry Events Center.

Prior to the BEC, the 'Cats played at Lakeview Arena, the city owned barn just down the street.

The X is like that. One of the seats I regularly get for the F5 is only a couple rows from the very very top, on the end of the ice, and the view is awesome, you're at a very steep viewing angle towards the ice, and I love it. I almost prefer that seat to something on the blue line, just above the glass (my second favorite seat preference).
