Pictures of Your Arena

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

New Scoreboards at Merrimack.

This ALMOST begs for a "Lipstick on a ..." comment but I love going to and watching games at Lawler. I hope the rennovation doesn't ruin the intimacy

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

This is the best panoramic picture I could find of the current DECC. Its from the off-season so the rink and boards are out, along with all the banners, but you can get a good idea of how cramped and dark it feels. I'm gonna miss this place.

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

Every college hockey fan should get to this place at least once. Best college arena in the country, by far.

Yeah I was there last year for the UW series and it's pretty much the Taj Mahal of college hockey. The seats are padded (with Sue's on them), the sight lines are perfect, and the concourse is very well kept. The student section doesn't seem to get how to execute an organized cheer, though.

That has more to do with security and the wishes of the big spenders than the students being unable to get organized...

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

That and not every fan base is so worried about choreography that they forget there is a game going on.

If you've been to a Badger game, you'd notice that most of the choreography is done in breaks of play such as "Drop the puck, Gophers suck!" when the refs are taking forever. We will chant the number of goals that we've scored after a goal and that we want more, but it doesn't take much ability to be able to watch the game and do that.

Hopkinja.. Lynah's a nice rink & the gm atmosphere is awesome.. but is it me or those seats look like benches (bleachers) & they look cold... Ithaca doesn't get snow does it.. :)

There was another picture I found which showed Lynah on a green summer day. It just didn't seem appropriate :D

I think section C has seats now, and there are some "premium" seats on the new walkway above the scoreboard between sections A and O. But the rest is wooden benches. How else can you sneak extra people into your section? And they're not really cold because you're so jammed in with your fellow Faithful.

Baker Rink at Princeton before the renovation 20 years ago was cold. No seats, no benches, just a couple of tiers of concrete. You'd swear the fridge system for the ice was chilling the seats, too. And it probably was.

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

One of the most miserable places to watch a hockey game from if you're a visiting fan. Can't hear announcers, can't see scoreboard, horrible sight lines... They really need to blow that place up.

The Alfond is a crappy building, but it has a fantastic atmosphere. I like it because it's so small, it gets extremely loud, and we students have the best seats right on top of the ice.

It's cool to see some of the venues from out east... While I love having a top-tier venue, there is an intimate atmosphere that the smaller rinks have that the Kohl just doesn't... Also, wow... Yale's rink just looks gorgeous.

It really is a nice rink. Princeton's rink, while small, is also very nice in it's own way.

Yeah, it's a very nice place, inside and out.

Yale's rink has a famous lineage:

The architect, Eero Saarinen, was also known for the TWA Terminal at JFK, the Gateway Arch, and the Dulles Airport terminal building.
