Philosophy 1: Wittgenstein was a beery swine who was just as sloshed as Schlegel

There is only one serious philosophical question: whether or not to kill yourself. Right now all Mets fans know what I mean.

So here's a funny while I flip a coin.

I opened Montaigne last night. I appreciate his willingness to entertain doubt and give anecdotes about himself, and apparently his contemporaries mocked him for that.

I dove deeper on Stoicism today and learned it's really about doing the right things and not being too concerned with other people's opinions.

Things I need to master in sobriety.

Stoicism is so broad it probably should be retired as a term. I'm sure there are philosophical precepts within stoicism that are mutually exclusive and self-contradictory.

But if I had to rank the main tenets:

1. Pain don't hurt. -- Road House
2. We don't own things, things own us. -- Thoreau
3. Only the present exists. -- Bigelow
4. Philosophy cannot be spoken, it can only be lived. -- Epictetus
5. Living in harmony is goodness. -- Seneca
