Penn st. Job?????

Re: Penn st. Job?????

Even if he stayed at UMD, I don't think he would have ever been looked at to replace Lucia. I think the next guy will be an alum.

Indeed. I articulated that on GPL last year, sort of. He does not have the right demeanor for what the job demands. He could be successful there, if it was just about letting a coach do the best he can his own way, but the politics get in the way.

Re: Penn st. Job?????

Because we all know it is unheard of for college head coaches to leave for other college head coaching jobs. ;)

But I do agree with you on his options. Personally, I'll be surprised if it isn't Penn State.

I agree Hammy, but tough call for Sandelin as both options are favorable.

Re: Penn st. Job?????

Wow, Hammy, is that because of your inside info? Because this is the first I've heard of this! I live under a rock!

Sandelin isn't going to sign some piddly little 2 year contract at tUMD if he stays. So breaking a 5-7 year contract (which tUMD will HAVE to offer him as that's what PS will/has already offered) NEXT YEAR is ridiculous. Wherever he decides to go next (PS), the Gophers aren't going to lure him away. And as I said last year, he is SO not the right coach for UMTC.

Oh, Blasi? The guy who makes 300k at Miami through 2017? Miami has already shown they will do anything to keep him. They DOUBLED his pay. And where are we watching for Seth Appert to go? tUMD? He's not going to UMTC either.

It is so cute that you think contracts are set in stone. If the coach wants to leave at anytime in their contract they can do so. For example, the University of Minnesota has the ability to buy out any current opposing coaches contract. Do the currently have the ability? No, because they are paying off Monson, Mason and Brewster.

Re: Penn st. Job?????

I know you realize that. Such tension...

It would not suprise me but if Lucia does well next year he probably stays for a while longer. Next year imo is a make or break year for Coach Lucia.

It's so cute that you are so stupid.

If Sandelin is LOOKING FOR A LONG TERM DEAL, then he's not looking to then get out of it the next year. OF COURSE contracts can be bought out. But is UMTC going to buy out the lucrative contract that Penn State gives Sandelin, while simultaneously offering one even more lucrative? **** no. How cute are you that you think that? Please. Your athletic department is stealing money out of the pockets of hockey season ticket holders and claiming poverty. Dream on.

If Sandelin wants to leave, he will leave NOW. If he wants to stay, he'll STAY. In order for him to stay with the Bulldogs, he would have to have one hell of a commitment to the program to give up the money the hillbillies are throwing at him. I'm sorry you are too stupid to understand that.

Re: Penn st. Job?????

Announcement coming Monday. Hopefully something leaks and we hear before then.

Did anyone interview besides Sandy?

Re: Penn st. Job?????

I hope Penn St. screws this up as much as possible. I'm talking about a John Hill/Dean Talafus/Tim Watters caliber screw up.

I was wondering the exact same thing. If not, time for the Happy Valley realtors to find a house with a hefty garage door for the "Kid' to shoot at.

It's so cute that you are so smart.

Huh? What are you talking about? Go back and read if I ever discussed PSU giving Sandelin a lucrative contract that the University of Minnesota will buy out. Also I never claimed the MN AD department stealing money out of the hockey season ticket holders.

Again I have never talked about PSU throwing money at him.

Thank you for putting words in my mouth.

PSU IS throwing money at him. You don't even have to say it; it's happening. Or, rather, already happened. So if you're talking about a fake, not-currently-occurring scenario, then perhaps you should check what thread we are in. No one is putting words in your mouth. Try to hang in here, I know it's hard, but try to keep up.

As for UMTC buying out contracts, you said

Remember when you said this? And the statement below it?

Bah, contracts in college sports don't mean anything. For Minnesota to hire him he would need to have a winning record before they would ever consider him for an interview. Two coaches to watch are Seth Appert and Enrico Blasi.

You wondered if Sandelin might replace Lucia. You said contracts don't mean anything, no matter their length. Then you said UMTC could afford to buy out a contract. So, um, where am I putting words in your mouth? Because I applied your comments TO THE ACTUAL SITUATION AT HAND? Holy crap. What a reach!

And I said UMTC is stealing $$ out of their season ticket holders' pockets. Do you not read GPL? Hello, go here. http://www.gopherpucklive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9381

I fully understand we are in a PSU thread and again I never once discussed PSU throwing money at him. My comments are only directed at the potential opening of job that is not available. The fact of the matter is if the Gophers want to buy out anybody in the country they have the money to do so. Do I think Sandy is a good fit? Nope. Can he coach? Yep. Did I cheer for UMD a couple of weeks ago? Yep. My relatives graduated from UMD. Do I think he leaves for PSU? Nope. He wants his assisants to be taken care that is what all the hub bub is about. PSU might be better off with an eastern coach but we will see.

Possible announcement Monday, but no "noise" this weekend out of Duluth, Madison, or wherever the third candidate is frm?
