PC Hockey.....continues to grow

Re: PC Hockey.....continues to grow

You guys picked up a pretty good recruit in Tom Aldworth, a D from Cushing, for either '14 or '15.

You mean forward correct?

If memory serves me his name was dropped in the Projo hockey notes probably last fall as someone Leaman was very interested in.

Just the fact his arrival date is flexible and he could be pushed to be a 20 year old freshman shows how little scholarship money we have in the next couple of years. I suspect at the moment we probably could bring in one partial say a 2 for 4 split over 4 years beginning next year. We get a little more wiggle room if Ellis is moved from arriving Sept '13 to Sept 14 ( or Gillies is a 1 and done guy). my calculations say we have nothing open at the moment for arrivals in Sept '14 though that most certainly is subject to change with Gillies and Jankowski finishing their sophomore years at that point. Of course it is also possible some our large 14 man freshman class might see some handwriting that suggests they are not Hockey east type players and moved on. clearly Leman is covering his bases well.

The roster is finally up.......looks like LaPlante moved on as he is not on the list.......rest is as expected

I'm actually pretty surprised he left... I'm really sad though, he was such a nice kid. I'll miss him on campus.

...Solid player who see's the ice real well.......

Is this the hockey equivalent of the basketball phrase: "Runs the floor real well"? Not quibbling, just want to get my hockey jargon up-to-date.
Kudos to Leaman for making us competitive after just one season. There are still a number of questions about this team, but with the 30-man roster,
it's gonna be a battle for ice time. Great situation for the younger players, who will push the veterans.

Any reports on who's stepped up their games this year?

On Friars.com there's now a video on each player's roster page introducing themselves, explaining why they came here, etc. I think it's certainly notable how many freshmen immediately cite "coaching" and "Coach Leaman" as the reason why they're here.

Really? What would you have expected them to say? I came to Providence, because "I was absolutely blown away (small pun intended) by the chemistry labs that I saw" or "I was enraptured by the lecture on Chaucer that I heard during my visit."

Every last one is here primarily because they thought Coach Leaman could help speed their journey to the NHL.
