Patty Kazmaier 2022

Bummer Jaques didn't win it. If a D was going to break thru she was it.

Sure I'm disappointed for Sophie, who would have been a very deserving winner.

But Nicole lays out the case for Taylor very well. Clearly Heise is also 100% deserving.

It is tough when the finalists are a mix of forwards and 'D.' Inevitably it's an apples & oranges comparison. And it's perfectly reasonable to like both apples & oranges!

Congratulations, Taylor.

Congratulations to Taylor Heise! I obviously wanted to see our Sophie Jaques get it, but Taylor Heise is very deserving of the Patty Kazmaier Award!

You guys are always so classy, and a big reason why people are genuinely happy for you to have a title.

Thank you for the kind words ARM! I have met lots of wonderful people here and at the games, and at the end of the day, we are all just rooting for our teams, supporting our kids, trying to help grow the game in our corner of the world. We may all root for different teams, but we are all Women's Hockey fans. For those who have ventured to Columbus, it is not unusual for our fans and opposing fans to head over to Varsity Club after the games and have beverages together. I consider Women's Hockey fans to be members of the same community and we welcome everyone in our corner of the world in Columbus! (heart emoji and smile emoji here)

Thanks for saying that. I was Team Sophie for this award and was frankly shocked she didn't win, but I think the story for Heise is not so much in her numbers, but how much she elevated the players around her. Her linemates were third liners and barely producing and became some of the best in the country thanks to playing with her. Once you frame it that way, it's easy to see why the committee was swayed that way.
