Patty Kazmaier 2022

Because they don't like her game or maybe even her personally. It doesn't mean she should be DQ'ed from the PK award, does it?

The problem is not the players, it's the voters. Who ever is voting for this thing aren't seriously considering D's and G's. And sometimes the way they vote they consider it more of a career award than a single season award. When ARD won as a Sr, per numbers as a Sr weren't as good as her Jr year. She should have won it it Jr year and not her Sr. year.

Clearly Jaques should win it (though 10 pf her goals are on the pp, does that devalue the quality of the goals? IDK), though Heise is 9 pts clear of #2, but even that historically doesn't mean much.

Hard to say on Watts.

Agreed on the voters though. With defenders it's hard to judge them because a lot of what they do isn't about points. If we had more robust stats like zone exits / entries, or even TOI it might be easier. Goaltenders it seems you have to have either a record breaking year or career. Not much place for someone like Corinne Schroeder, Lucy Morgan, or Rachel McQuigge, critical components of their teams' successes but not #1 in sv pct. (More as nominees than winners.)

I don't think it devalues her goals, especially as a defender. If it were 10 ENG though...

I'd go with Jacques. Followed by Heise.
That's how I see it as well.

Part of that is where this typically falls in the calendar. Not sure about this season, but other than last year, it has typically happened so early that you're having to make decisions with a lot of the games left to be played. So voters look back and think, this kid could easily have won this award last year!

I definitely get the part about a lack of love for the D. However, I'm not following as much why people think goalies are overlooked. Frankel won last year, and ARD four years before that. How often should goalies win for it to be the right ratio? Part of me understands, because Kessel won over Noora and Bozek, but that was a year where all had historic seasons, and what are you going to do?

I’d say this weekend Heise threw her delegates over to Jaques.
Quite possible. Then again most players would have gladly settled for a goal and an assist over the two games. And that assist on Boreen's goal was a beauty. But if there is a favorite out of the 10 semi-finalists? I think they'll go with the D, Sophie Jaques.

Has the top 3 been named yet?

anyone know when the voting took place?

I forget it goes —- voters only vote 1 time correct ?

According to their web site "The top-three finalists are expected to be announced on Thursday, March 17". Nothing that I see yet. And unlike pre-COVID years, the winner is not named this weekend, that comes next Saturday, the 26th.

Yes. The way it has historically worked was that coaches (and maybe certain others?) would vote to get down to the 10 finalists. After that, the committee meets to discuss the 10, and votes one time. The top three are announced, but the winner has already been decided at that point. Who knows about this year, as I don't have an inside information and the Patty Kaz site hasn't been very forthcoming with news.

Thank you Arm and Robert Earle!
looking forward to seeing who the final 3 is. Had no idea the final award was pushed back a week.

And then losing?

(I doubt Duluth will be there, but if they are...)

Just a reminder that Duluth and Ohio State split four games this year; they split a pair in Duluth in December and then split a pair in Ohio in January.

Bummer Jaques didn't win it. If a D was going to break thru she was it. Now we will have to wait for Jungels or Harvey to put up big numbers and see if one of them can get it. Wink;)
