Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

It’s a new year but the same old story. NE's coaching staff right now ranks 32nd out of 32 NFL teams in making halftime adjustments. They play stupid, undisciplined football, and when things get tight they become completely predictable.

I hope these young guys improve as the season goes on. If they do, they can be competitive. I like some of these guys -- many of them, in fact. They will likely beat Buffalo, lose to Miami, and two weeks from now we'll be asking the same questions. Why? Because they're the same ****ing team they were last year.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

This is horrible:
The Patriots have been outscored 116-41 in the second half of their last eight road games, a statistic that does not include the team's win over the Buccaneers in London last season.

The breakdown:

2009
Jets -- 13-0
Broncos -- 10-0
Colts -- 21-10
Saints -- 14-7
Dolphins -- 12-7
Bills -- 7-3
Texans -- 21-14

2010
Jets -- 18-0
Until they prove otherwise, they are a bunch of soft front-runners, starting with their head coach and quarterback, the two highest-paid members of the organization not named Kraft. This statistic is tellling and it's completely unacceptable.

So far, the defense and offense have showed up in the first halves of the first two games. I'm not sure what the hell is going on in the second half of these games.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

I'm really not looking forward to this week. Bellicheck and Brady are already licking their chops.

Many of us have suspended our loathing for the Patsies, their fans, and indeed all things New England (except the foliage, which rocks) to wholeheartedly support you brutalizing Buffalo. Our prayers go with you.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

Rover should be all over this note from Mike Rodak's film analysis over at ESPN Boston.;)
Despite the pressure from the Jets, the Patriots were still able to mount a drive and reach the red zone on a first-and-10 before the strip-sack of Brady by OLB Jason Taylor and recovery by OLB Bryan Thomas effectively ended the game. Ironically, the Jets did not blitz on the play, sending only three rushers, including Taylor against LT Matt Light. Brady pumped downfield while Taylor put a spin move on Light and broke free to hit Brady from behind as he was still searching for a target. Light did not have any help with Taylor on the play, which raises questions as Light has generally not been able to handle Taylor for nearly the last decade.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

7 defensive backs in the game...to watch Welker catch and run for 20 yards...

And Brady to Moss for another TD. Ho hum.

Re: Patriots 2010: the Year We Make Contracts

I'm not sure that is the best thing to do after you slide like a *****

no experience at the corners and their best pass rush threat is on injured reserve... no surprise, really... the corners, mccourty, chung, butler, wheatley, and arrington had a combined 50 games played coming into the season (6 starts among them)... meanwhile, sitting on injured reserve are bodden 90 gp/67 starts and mcgowan (who is listed as a safety but can play corner) with 41/24...

they are a bit more experienced at safety with meriweather, page, and sanders having 48 games/27 starts, 53/39, 63/41 respectively... problem is, only two of those guys are on the field at any given time, and the two that are out there need to make up for the inexperience of the corners...

fact is, teams are going to exploit the lack of a pass rush and go after the inexperienced corners on underneath routes or when there is man coverage... remember, samuel turned out to be a pretty good cb after he gained some experience, but his first couple of years were terrible before he made the jump in year three... it takes time... the pats are clearly banking on their ability to score points to win games... next year they will be drafting help with the pass rush (which will help out the secondary) and the running game...
