I wonder if the Russians will play so soft and, I guess you could say without heart, when the games are in motherland?

Excellent point. There will be a lot of pressure on the team to do well. There's talk of not allowing pros to compete in the next Olympics, and if so, not sure if they will have any advantage in the new age (ie no Soviet Union/Eastern Bloc) of international hockey.

Russians get taken to the woodshed tonight by Canada. What a time for the Russians to reinforce the soft European pantywaist sterotype not being able to hang with the North American style of play. Russia threw in the towel after 2 periods. The Swiss played harder than Russia in this tournament.
So you mean stereotypes sometimes are true (the Russians) and sometimes aren't (the Swiss)?

No, the Swiss still make cheese and chocolate and still have have corkscrews on their knives. :p

Why wouldn't they? Cheese and chocolate are delicious and corkscrews are useful! :D

The Czechs are making one or two more passes than they need to be, like they think they can't beat Kiprusoff.

The Swiss played with more grit and dertermination than Russia with only half their talent. Yes, to answer the question, the Swiss didn't fit the sterotype. The Russians did.

Games are at the Pacific Coliseum -- same venue as the women's figure skating finals tomorrow night.

Blame NBC!
Don't blame NBC for putting the event that draws the best ratings in prime time. Blame American TV audiences for watching figure skating.

*ding*

(Although an exception can be made tomorrow, considering the circumstances.)

Agreed!

I was mistaken -- the final is at <strike>Canada Hockey</strike> GM Place. :o

I haven't seen some as p^ssed off as Milbury was there since Sonic Youth shot off Frampton's pig.

 I've seen this from Kipper before--hopefully he gets it out of his system tonight

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

Does anyone plan to score a goal, or is this destined for a skills competition?
