Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

So jumping off the bench and tripping is legal.

We've scored three, hit two posts, and only lead 1-0.

Because goals after the end of the period count, as do goals scored after penalties are called on the offense.

BTW, the post-penalty-goal sequence shows why replay doesn't work in hockey. If SUI had been awarded a goal, would the penalty not have counted? If SUI and USA had both been awarded goals, would the USA goal have come off the board?

Now Krueger can make it back to Ithaca for his son's Senior Night.

Not completely sure about the penalty, but the US goal would have NOT counted. The clock would be reset to the time of the Swiss goal, and it would have been 1-1. Not sure if the Swiss would have a PP or not.

I'm glad that one is done. Hiller is the one goalie that really scared the crap out of me, as far as being able to completely steal a game, and it sounds like he came close to doing it today.

Amen.

Now, for more important things:

Go Russia!
**** Canuckistan. At least they won't have far to go, after Ovie and company send them home.

Not sure. I think I'd like a US/Canada rematch for Gold. If the US happens to win it would off the most entertainment value.

I watched a steam from CTV, and it's funny how much the Canadians are whining about the poor officiating of this game. They keep bringing up the Rafalski check in the corner and the trip at the end. They make it sound like the Swiss would have won if they called the penalties. Someone is bitter. Go Russia. :D

The greatest entertainment value would be the Canadians failing to medal.

The photos of the crying Canadians would be pretty great. There was a photo gallery of shocked fans on Sunday that I really liked.

I think the US has a better chance of beating Russia or Sweden, should they make the gold medal game, than they do of beating Canada twice in the same tournament.

and I agree that it would be awesome to see Canada fail to medal :D

Was "power play in hockey" the best example they could come up with for having the hammer in curling?
I don't really see much of a connection, other than ice being involved of course.

the Rafalski check was questionable, but the knee-to-knee on Kessel in the first period should have been called. The Kanadiens are just bitter that they are fighting for their hockey lives, while the US is guaranteed to play for a medal. :)

Yes! The epic meltdown that would occur would be memorable for years to come.

A co-worker said it best, "If Canada fails to medal you'll know it because you'll hear the sound of it up here."

Hey a hockey game is on NBC!

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

I missed the last 10 minutes of the game to go donate blood. But between the stress of the game, the coke I had, and not really liking needles I couldn't get my heart rate down to an acceptable level.

Teaches me to go and try to help others.

I noticed that during the US v China match yesterday. Especially when it was the last end and China had the hammer. Wouldn't it be more like have the last at-bat in baseball than a powerplay?

Absolutely. It's more like getting last ups in baseball.

I'm hoping for a Russian win because Hockey Canada will beg the NHL to let them go to Sochi for 2014. I don't think the owners want to get into a chicken game with HC.
